5 ways to rig Tasmanian Devil (tassie devil) lures for trolling in dams for big brown trout and spinning in creeks and rivers for big rainbow and big brown trout
It is .There is no right or wrong way, they are designed as interchangeable for conditions. They give a different sway. Backfins is for fast trolling, narrow sway, wings forward is slower retrieve, wider sway/
Some good options there. I’ve been using the double in-line hook rig for a number of years now with good hook up rate. The fish seem to stick better. I have one small difference. I place a small swivel between the split ring and line. A big feisty rainbow can weaken the line if tied directly to the split ring. Just my preference that’s all. Cheers Grattan
No worries, sorry to hear about your dad but glad it helped and hope you found it a little entertaining. Thanks for the watch and hope to see you back again
Thanks for the view mate, what speed do they troll it at ? I’ve been told you can troll it faster backwards but have never tried it. Glad you enjoyed the vid hope to see you here in the future mate
@@Dmacs_fishingandfun i watch my lure in the water and adjust speed until im happy with the movement. on taupo i also add a streamer fly about 30cms.above the tassie on a separate leader. like the tassie is chasing it. brownies often hit on the fly
Thanks for the view mate, I have had a few people tell me they use a single hook definitely food for thought on the one hook or two hooks way of thinking, glad you enjoyed the video hope you enjoy more in the future
GREAT NORTHERN BEER : Dmac, Thanks for the Rig demos for the Tasmanian. I enjoyed seeing this, AND You tilting the Cans of Great Northern. The slured Speech, along with The Down under Accent was busting me up. I think my Demo " BRO" , Was half in the bag, while doing the Video. LMAO .
i use teaser fly, with tassies. essentially my hook is a fly, something bushy. red and uv are killers. i tie it on the back as i would a regular hook. it really makes them dance.
thanks for the view and the comment mate, 3 or so kph is pretty slow, I usually aim for about 3.5kph, but tassies will work down to about 2.8 kph, so still good in the yak.
Oh ya looking to pick up a few more. I was using the 7 oz going for a little bigger 13.5 oz these will surly get me deeper in the water @@Dmacs_fishingandfun
Great video thanks!... You can also tweak the action of the Tasmanian devil by BENDING it... More like a banana means more, stronger action... Straighter means less action but you can move it at a higher speed without it going bezerk
Very true I have seen people bend them in the past, some times you will get one that is to straight out of the box and will need to give it a bend. Thanks for the watch mate
You can also dunk em in boiling water for a couple seconds and bend the body and slightly twist or curve the fins which makes each Tassie even more unique and have found higher strike rates due to the wobble, spin and flutter giving the lure at times a much more distressed movement or a fluttering spin.... remember only a few seconds max and only slight bends are needed..
very true mate there has been a few other blokes commented here about bending them for better swimming action. Also you should test each one when they are new as sometimes when new they will not have enough bend from the factory and will need a bend to get em going. Thanks for the view mate
Just lost my favorite tassie about an hour ago the gold/black xmas tree custom bent to achieve the best swimming action ever and I now need something stronger than a beer.
Iv seen that vic fisheries have stocked it and a heap of other dams for the school holidays, Great incentive for the kids, enjoy it while there still in there. Thanks for the view and the comment mate
Cheers mate. Come catch some monsters in the Twizel (pronounced twhy-zel) Hydro Canals, here in NZ, mate. Biggest trout on earth. They are quite ridiculous sized.
Reverse has a quicker action which has worked for me if everything else fails. Definitely worth a shot. My biggest problem is the waters I fish I tend to catch pike with these lures which leads to lost lures. Has anyone any idea of a product which is flexible enough and strong enough to withstand the fish cutting the line. The best I've come up with is braid as a leader. Haven't caught any trout but the pike couldn't care less the hungry buggers...
Can’t help you there mate we don’t have Pike in Australia. A few other guys have commented that backwards gives a quicker action so definitely worth a try. Thanks for the watch and the comment mate
Yea It will a sad day when maso closes the door for the last time, it’s been regarded as one of the best tackle stores in the local area for a long time. In the meantime he has some great bargains at the moment so go and support him and thanks for the view mate
Cut the hook off and use a split ring. I only use the wire if it doesn't jam. Some wires jam, some don't. I play the fish as softly as possible to avoid the hooks tearing out.. They aren't going anywhere.
I usually use the standard treble but on bigger trout in impoundments I use a #4 VMC treble but these days I pretty much just use 2 single lure hooks like in the video. Hope that helps and thanks for the view mate
In the video I’m using 15lb penn mono line so it shows up in the video, but when trolling these lures I generally use 8lb braided line with a 10lb fluorocarbon leader. Great question hopefully I answered it ok, and thanks for the view
My brother in law ran em backwards for years thinking that was the right way. Still caught as many as me.👍🤠
Nice

Nice video mate 👍 Just got back into fishing as an adult and remember using these lures as a kid 😃

I agree since doing the video I have added a solid ring so I’m not tying to the split ring, thanks for the feedback and the view mate
Thanks man! Super helpful video, dad passed away a few years ago so ain't got nobody to show me how to use his old gear to big thanks!!
No worries, sorry to hear about your dad but glad it helped and hope you found it a little entertaining. Thanks for the watch and hope to see you back again
The Kiwis use the back to front method. Tried it in Lake Taupo and it works well.

Great know how video champ! I myself use only 1 Gamakatsu Single lure hook on a split ring & bead with great success.

Most important, I'm happy you are staying hydrated!!
Thanks mate, yea staying hydrated is important stuff. Thanks for the view and I hope you enjoy the content

Nice I have never used fly’s but definitely food for thought
Thanks Dmac, I use a single lure hook, but will change to the double lure hook method as this makes sense.
no worries mate its the go
We were kayaking for rainbow trout in a lake yesterday these were the best for me. Our kayak speed "slow" did not seem to be an issue.

I Use the 2 single hook method 👍
Nice glad to hear, I find the 2 hooks work well. Thanks for the view and thanks for leaving a comment.
Great content the pink Tassies are very effective on brown trout in Otago Nz
Thanks for the view mate, we have found the Pink the be a very good color to use here in dams and impoundments. Its probably my go to color..

Yea loosing a lure always sucks mate but there is always more to buy and there is always beer.
good trout fishing at the Alan's flat Water hole at the moment.good plate size rainbows there.
Iv seen that vic fisheries have stocked it and a heap of other dams for the school holidays, Great incentive for the kids, enjoy it while there still in there. Thanks for the view and the comment mate
Quinny here got to see an expert at work
Thanks mate I’m no expert but glad you enjoyed the vid and thanks for the watch

Iv seen some videos they look huge, thanks for the view and the comment mate, hope you enjoyed it
Come in a 26g also, my preference
ok not seen that big boy, must be huge

I prefer to use a swivel with a siwash hook on it.
I have tried a swivel and it works fine, but never tried a siwash hook 🪝
We have a barbless hook salmon fishery and the gamakatsu big river siwash is really good. bead-swivel-hook @@Dmacs_fishingandfun

if you have an old one could you take the treble hook off the wire
Yea mate I have cut the wire of all of mine, thanks for the view mate
@@Dmacs_fishingandfun thank you

When rigging these up, do I have to drink the same brand of beer or does any brand work?
It’s ok mate any brand is fine even soft drinks or water will work
What size trebbles would you suggest for a 13.5gm tazzy ?
I usually use the standard treble but on bigger trout in impoundments I use a #4 VMC treble but these days I pretty much just use 2 single lure hooks like in the video. Hope that helps and thanks for the view mate
What kind of fishing line are you using in this video

Hi Dmacs, I have just got back into trout fishing and like this video. Question; what weight and length of your leader. Cheers Ian
Thanks for the view mate, when trolling I usually use a 10lb leader about 8 to 10 foot long
@@Dmacs_fishingandfun Thanks for your thoughts, do you use a swivel between the main line and leader, I enjoy your channel
@@iannicholas9262 thanks mate glad you enjoy it, I tye straight to the main line so I can wind it on with such a long leader using an Albright knot.
@@Dmacs_fishingandfun Thanks, I’m heading out to the lake in the next couple of days so will try it out

hi what size single hooks do you use
size 1 mate sometimes 1/0 thanks for the view
