Born and raised Alaskan here, this video is absolutely correct. I would also like to note that the Maryland blue crabs are the only other crab that comes close to our Alaskan king crabs in terms of flavor. I remember visiting Maryland a few years ago and being skeptical when locals raved about their crabs. But after sitting down at a crab shack by the bay, covered in Old Bay seasoning, I was blown away by how sweet and tender the meat was. The experience of cracking open those shells while sharing a bucket of crabs with friends felt just as satisfying as the crab boils back home in Alaska. Maryland blue crabs may be smaller, but they definitely pack a punch when it comes to taste. Props to them for holding their own!

Alaskan red king crab is in high demand internationally, and the short harvesting season and limited cold water habitat make it expensive. Crab meat is probably one of the things I miss most becasue of my allergy I developed due to my thyroid disease. I used to love crab and crayfish and New Zealand Blue lip mussels. I'll dive for mussels where I live in the cold waters of the the fjords in Norway, but I can't eat them.

Ooooh. I totally agree with 1&3 and I don't think ive tried 4&5 but #2... Look to be fair maybe the blue crabs you have in Maryland are different, I live about 2000 miles south from you so its a VERY different climate, BUT the blue crab we have down here is disgusting. Its barely crab at all really. Its not sweet at all, you have to drench it in butter to get any flavor out of it and its chewy and a bit slimy if im being honest. They also say not to eat them over a certain size because they can make you sick. The only reason people eat them at all is they are a common and easy to catch source of food. Any little kid could grab 10 a day with a butterfly net making them an affordable food option in poorer areas.

Man I just don't find crab worth it at all. It feels like I'm just eating butter. There's just no flavor. I prefer crab soups and bisques because the texture and chew go with something.
