A very strong reminder indeed that you do not absolutely HAVE to spend between ten and twenty thousand of your preferred currency on the latest giant KTM/BMW etc in order to do cross continental off road tours even two up.
Nice vid brings me back to my own trip on a klx 150 from Malaysia to NL. I recently bought a vstrom 650 and really want to go out there and explore some dirt again :). Even though the klx fully packed and me was not really capable of that I still had a blast on it, so can't imagine the vstrom. I did some offroading with a f650 but seems that the vstrom will handle better.
I know that I'm way late to the party here, but was ground clearance ever an issue on the V-Strom? I have the same bike and am trying to decide whether or not I want to raise it a bit for offroad travel. Thanks!
How tall are you ? My problem with dl650 is that its very heavy and if i need to support it (while its stopped) ), with my feet on a not even surface i get easily loose the balance .
The frame is aluminum. Any problems with it? Its the only thing keeping me from buying this bike because where I live I would not get aluminum welding in case of a break.
We started the journey in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan via the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan and all the way to Armenia which actually is/was part of the Silk Road. It took about 5 week but it was a bit rushed.
I did it with a Chopper build of a Triumph Speedmaster and I will do it again in 3 year but I will go further down to Thailand where parts of my origins are

Two up on a DL650? That's awesome. I too love my V-Strom. Safe travels!
Cheers Renato

Hello! Amazing vid! What time of the year did you go? Thanks!
Early June. We might have been lucky with the weather though.
Thank you very much! Any problems with the cast wheels of the v strom?@@Outbackmotortek
@@Dar7635 Not for us, but in general cast rims don't handle harsh terrain so well.

It’s always an issue when you take the Vstrom off the pavement, but rough rides are manageable as long as you have a great aftermarket bash plate

No problems at all Pedro! It was a smooth sail.

nice trip...but would you take the same bike if you had to make that trip again?
Two up, yes. It's a simple and reliable machine.
What about solo, i'm thinking about transalp or v-strom
Great video. How do you think the same shape Vstrom 1000 would of been on the same trip?
Nice trip! Any problems on those territories?
Nope. With the right attitude, you can enjoy most parts of the world.
