- Hi! Thanks for visiting the channel!
In this video, i am building the HMS Belfast from Trumpeter in 1/350 scale, the winner of the last poll.
The kit is nice and gives you plenty of detailed parts, but fit might be an issue in some areas.
The music was taken from:

As someone who lives pretty near the HMS Belfast and has visited often I can proudly say this build is amazing!
The museum ship is great when you get to go, lots to see and lots to learn. I've been a couple of times now and my first time you could jump on the AA mounts and crank the handles and aim it at all the nearby buildings etc. But then a few years later I went again and they were stationary. I don't know whether they were welded for safety reasons or if they had just seized but I was rather sad at the time.
You should ask about them. My suspicion is that they were tack welded in place, to prevent tourists from somehow hurting themselves
Awesome build and video!!! In 1982, had the opportunity to visit HMS BELFAST when visiting London for the first time. Spent a week in London, and always wanted to get to the ship, but kept getting side-tracked by exploring the city for never knew if I would ever get back to London. Spent like 2 days at Tower of London and Tower Bridge - did get the chance to go all the way up to top of one of the towers and got some really good photos of the ship from that angle. Then in 1986 or so, got to pay London another visit, and had HMS BELFAST on the visitation list. Day I get to the ship and it is CLOSED for renovations!!! UHG!!! Oh well, maybe next visit (whenever that will be). Anyway, now I got to look for those photos!!
I had a friend, that his dad served on this ship, and I built this for his 92nd birthday
Even without railings one can appreciate the clean lines of your model and the ship. Well done.
my brother was the past sailor injured on this ship... it was an accommodation ship floating in the Thames before it was handed over to the imperial war museum. and he fell down a ladder and knocked himself out coming back to base drunk...
The command ship of the third force(d-day), victor of the Tripiz, the "Belle of belfast city" and the old las who's storys we all want to hear. A lovely ship.
A lovely model -well done . Wales UK.
Thanks again, I love the way way you actually love building your models
A nice ship Modelcomrade. The Camouflage on both sides are very intresting.
Have a nice weekend 💪🍺🍺😎😋
*Thumbs wide up!!👍👍💯👍👍*
Superb skills. Wonderful to watch.
Nice model great paint!
Hello Peter, again another amazing build and video. Very interesting kit. I just received my kit from Japan. Its Hasegawa's N.Y.K. Line Hikawa Maru in 1/350 scale. I also purchased a basic PE set ( handrails, laders, doors, hatch covers) and a wooden deck set. I really inspired me to try a ship model. I just hope it turns out half as well as your kits. Thank you again for your inspiration and for making this awesome channel. Stay safe and healthy my friend. Have a great weekend. 👍👍👍
Hi Chris! Great, Hasegawa makes fine kits, in my experience! And it is great to hear that my videos inspired you to get a ship, hope you have fun making it! With so many additions, it surely will turn out great and detailed! Have a nice and safe weekend as well, thanks!
Good to see you started masking the wooden deck ,i hope you will continue this habit in the future 😁
It was quite a chore, but i probably should :D
Beautiful job! Watching your work gives me tips on how to paint and weather ships. I’m never disappointed in what you do.
Thanks very much! I'd like to continue this ship in the future with rigging and more weathering, but i am glad you like it!
Better and faster than me, nice work! 👍👍👍
It would be great if you could speak your comments of what you're doing besides having to read it that way we can watch what you're doing more and the music was a little loud but very very interesting video great job on the model
Nice work ! The kit does have a lot of detail and looks great built straight out of the box...Well done 👍🇦🇺
Thanks very much, i am glad you like it! Its a great kit and fun to make
I'm nearing the end of building the IWM Airfix HMS Belfast 1/700 kit but this Trumpeteter model seems a lot easier to build than the IWM kit , I've had nothing but problems with the IWM kit .
Great video my friend looks amazing 👍👍
Great! I loved it. Thank you for sharing this with us.
pretty model. However, you should think about doing a very big cleaning of your airbrush. the condition of your airbrush is deplorable. you can deep clean it with tamiya airbrush cleaner
Hello! Thanks, i should really do that, but im always too lazy to begin the cleaning process. But now the danger of clogging increases from day to day.
good work..but warships do not have " lifeboats".. these are the ship's boats..
Have you ever tried hms belfast airflix 1/600? That model are accurate aswell as trumpeter. It's interesting. I might buy the trumpeter version someday.
Greetings from Iowa USA! Really enjoying your HMS BELFAST kit! Im just starting to weather my A carrier next are oils can hardly wait! Say if its not personal whats you first name? Best to all!
Hi Jerry! Much thanks, it was a fun, great kit to make! My first name is Peter. Nice, weathering with oils is always a nice step, it alters the model very much
@@funinscale2892 hi Peter! Thanks ill start 2day. As soo as thats done ill start on the SURCOFF. Really anxious!
Where can you buy this
Hi Peter! Saw a new release i think tku might like its the Flower class corvett by Revell of Germany? Its in 1/144 scale kit number 05132.. I havent started mine yet. If you get it let me know what u think. Looks great 2 me! Best to all!
Hi Jerry! I have seen this kit, i think it might be a great model, but there is also a 1/72 scale version from Revell, which makes a great size for those ships! I have a Flower class corvette in 1/350 from Mirage, which is around 6 inches long, very small :)
A massive fan Great video.😊
Question
Do you or any of your subscribers know if there are any of the less talked about ships that took part in the operation to destroy the bismarck exist in 1/350 scale such as the Norfolk/Suffolk the Dorsetshire/tarta exsist?
I,ve been looking but can't seem to track any down.
I know that there is a tribal class destroyer out there and I could perhaps use this as a representative but would like to get actual ships in case of any ship mods.
Regards
Anthony .
I would also love to see your collection of model ships.
Hello Anthony! I never came across any of those ships in 1/350, but i would love them as well! Trumpeter has the HMS Kent as a model, and it is also a County Class Cruiser, as Dorsetshire, Suffolk and Norfolk. They probably have slight changes between them, but maybe one could make them from the HMS Kent kit, as well as the Tribal Class Destroyers, Zulu and the canadian kit of the Tribal class which i forgot the name of.
Also, there is no Rodney in 1/350 scale, i think. There is the 1/200 from Trumpeter and some in 1/700, but none in this scale as far as i know.
I sadly dont have many ships left from before i started videos, so i cant display that many, most of the older ones are given away because i live in a smaller flat and have no space :)
@@funinscale2892 OK time to petition the companies and get them to make these models all avaible in 1/350.
Could net them a few quid also.
Also never understood why they can't make destroyers and corvettes post modern or pre war available in 1/200 scale?
I would love to have the current British frigates and destroyers in 1/200.
@@anthonynichols2088 trumpeter is hoping to release a 1/350 rodney and nelson but they haven't done it yet
@@zhaoliu9080 OK well that's bloody good news my friend .😊
Just began to paint my 1/200 missouri
How does your build work out so far? all the PE parts added?
@@funinscale2892 not yet i don't dare to because then i probably can't get them painted, got to do your tactic of painting first, and the big range finders are giving me hell+some parts trumpeter don't give thenumber/letter, but its very very fun
@@zhaoliu9080 Bending PE parts is always a hard part of a build, sometimes i cheat a little bit and bend some parts in an easier way if it does not look much different. Have you got figure sets for the missouri?
@@funinscale2892 not yet I probably will do soon though
Dude if any of my comments seem mean or against you sorry I don’t mean it. If someone ever makes salty comments or complains ( lIke golden wing ) than just ignore them it’s no point wasting your time on them when you could be playing with your cat(she looks nice btw) answering nice people( like Chris Yau I think) or building models. Remembered your name FUN IN SCALE Peter stay safe
Edit: if you you don’t like a ship don’t build it just for us remember that:)
Hi Liu, thanks, very nice of you! I can ignore the negative comments, nagging them a bit is quite fun tough. :) I am very happy that most people leave positive and nice comments, and, as you say, for me, fun is the top priority. The ships i put on for the polls are all some that i have bought at one point, and want to make, but sometimes, when starting, they are less great than anticipated, but when i have already started, i want to finish them, so its not such a big deal, and i dont get fed up with modelling very fast. Sometimes taking a break of a week without modelling had my fingers itching already. How is your Missouri going? Stay healthy and dont get infected! :D
@@funinscale2892 hi mu Missouri its a love-hate relationship. i love it but it is my first time with photoetch, so everything is warped for photoetch and their is one antenna bit that they don't say what part it is, i currently can't find the body for 2 rangefinders and the crane got shattered when i was removing i t from the sprue, but i love it so much, it s my first time painting as well i never painted before as i am 10 and started half a year ago. my mum nags me about the toxic smells form paint and glue which is really annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hope your next kit is enjoyable for you!
also there are quite a few places in EU on scalemates which have missouri(if you do this one you might have to do it in 3 parts!!!!!!!!1
your airbrush could do with a cleaning
Drachinifel has done a great video on HMS Belfast:- history and a walk around the ship. BTW, she had that hanger removed and more AA guns added later in the war.
ua-cam.com/video/OhAZSmEwOZI/v-deo.html
Anyone know if these are still available? I can't find one anywhere (for UK)
Hi! Have you tried looking on scalemates.com? they usually have a list of vendors that sell certain models in their database, and also indicate if they are in stock or sold out
@@funinscale2892 Thanks, I've been looking there recently and no luck, but I haven't checked for scalemate members before. I think I'll have to wait for the odd one or two to come on sale or for a new batch from trumpeter.
he lost me when I saw how dirty the airbrush paint cup was....
How did you bend the radar on the guam
There are several radar things on Guam, but the smaller ones on the range finders i have bent over a tooth pick to get the rounded shape, the rectangle shaped were just bend with tweezers into the shape and fixed with super glue, and the main radar was a plane, at the carrier structure, every rod was bent individually to adhere to the radar plane
@@funinscale2892 um sorry i keen the ones on the built up superstructure thanks for the advice on the other one anyway
My dad had a party onboard her
Very nice, didnt know this was possible! i hope i can visit her some day!
No "the" in front of RN ships, just HMS Belfast
