Fun Fact: MJF was filming this movie at the same time he was filming a TV show he was on called Family Ties, so when he looks exhausted its because he REALLY is
And they're going to change a WHOLE LOT more, in the next decade. That's when Quantum computers are coming. They are going to speed up the trial and error processes involved with designing more capable machines to UNIMAGINABLE levels. There will be some great things coming from this, but the scariest thing is the possibility of Terminator style robots. ARMIES of them. Even if the robots don't turn against us, the Warmongers of Washington will use them to start WW3. The whole world might end up looking like Gaza. 😬
@@awesomelana7227 Before 1955, there was no teenage culture. No rock 'n roll. No rebellion. Boys went into the family business and girls were strictly brought up to become housewives. Nobody questioned this. Not until Elvis appeared and changed the world. From 1955 to 1985, so many changes happened that you could argue that it was no longer the same planet. Between 1985 and 2024, things have changed in terms of the Internet, social media and smartphones, etc, but none of those things are new. They were invented back in the 1955-85 period, and everything we have today is basically just improved models of old tech. If you could go back to the 90s, the only main difference would be the fashion and the lack of smartphones. Regular mobile phones would be quite common, though, but they would only be used for phoning and texting. The music would also be a LOT better. But if you went back to the 50s, the only thing that would be the same would be that cars needed 4 wheels to move, even then...
A few points: The judge who interrupts Marty's band with the admonition that, "you're just too darned loud," is Huey Lewis. He's lead vocalist for the band Huey Louis and the News. He wrote "The Power of Love," the song heard several times in the film. He and his band performed it for the film. The film's score was composed by Maestro Alan Silvestri. Among many, many other films, Maestro Silvestri scored the _Avengers_ films. The mall is originally named "Twin Pines Mall." Doc Brown explicity mentions that the area occupied by the mall was once farmland. Old Man Peabody had a dream of using it to breed pine trees. That's the farm at which Marty arrives in 1955. If you look closely, you'll see that Old Man Peabody has a pair of identical pine trees at the end of his driveway -- but Marty runs over one of them. When Marty goes back to 1985, the mall is named "Lone Pine Mall." One extreme bit of subtlety is that George is left-handed. Believe it or not, this was frowned-upon socially and academically until the 1970s. Lefties were taught to suppress it and use their right hand instead. This sometimes led to a level of neurosis due to the brain being told to rebel against its natural tendencies. The key moment is when George punches Biff. He first tries to use his right hand, which Biff easily blocks and immobilizes. It's only when George becomes enraged and uses his natural left hand to punch Biff that he's successful. The whole neurosis/left suppression issue was intentional by the director and writer. George clocking Biff with his left hand is when George is finally able to overcome his self-doubts and simply "be himself." Biff saying, "Make like a tree and get out of here," is a joke based on incorrect use of slang that's now fallen out of use. The correct slang is, "Make like a tree and leave." The fact that Biff gets it wrong is a statement on Biff's intelligence (or lack thereof). "Great Scott!" is another slang term that's fallen out of use. It was an interjection of surprise, amazement, or dismay. It was popular in the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century. It was frequently used by Superman in comics through the 1960s. Something I didn't notice until UA-cam reactors started blurting it out: _Why did Lorraine remove Marty's pants??_ He had a concussion, not something that would necessitate the removal of his pants! I'll leave the implications of what Lorraine might have done while Marty's pants were off to the imagination. Another thing I'd not considered until a _female_ reactor mentioned it: _Lorraine changing in front of her window was intentional._ This _female_ reactor said that Loreaine knew exactly what she was doing by leaving her window open while she changed -- and George falling into the street wasn't the first time some guy had climbed a tree to look at Lorraine. It took this _female_ reactor supporting this with dialog for me to really think about it. When Lorraine's father hits Marty, he calls out: "Another one of those damned kids jumped in front of my car!" I'd never pondered the implications of "another." This _female_ reactor said that it meant guys climbed the tree so frequently that Lorraine's father misinterpreted them dropping from the branch as jumping in front of the car. That interpretation made me think back. Prior to the Internet, there were "nosy neighbors": people with nothing better to do than gossip with all their neighbors about all their neighbors. Lorraine's window is in direct line-of-sight of three neighbors' 2nd floor windows. She's visible from the curb across the street. You don't have to climb a tree with binoculars to watch her, but it helps. There's probably not a neighbor within a three-block radius who doesn't know about Lorraine. It's scandalous enough that every guy in High School probably knows about her. The 1955 band with whom Marty plays "Johnny B. Goode" is Marvin Berry and the Skylighters. It's now missed by modern audiences, but in-universe, Marvin is cousin to real-life rock musician Chuck Berry. At one point in the song, Marvin calls Chuck on the phone and says, "You know that new sound you've been looking for? Well listen to _this!_ " and holds the phone toward the stage. Chuck Berry was the real-life composer and performer of "Johnny B. Goode." Berry would go on to become one of the most influential musicians of all time. If Chuck Berry copied "Johnny B. Goode" from Marty, this creates what scifi fans call a "Bootstrap Paradox." Marty learned it from Berry, but Berry learned it from Marty. The song ultimately has no composer. This film creates a very strange paradox that's neither broached nor resolved: When Marty returns to 1985, he sees a version of himself go back in time. However, _it's not the same Marty_ . It's an *Alternate Marty* who grew up in the *Alternate 1985* created by Marty's 1955 actions: where his father is a successful, self-confident scifi novelist; his family is successful; and Doc isn't killed by the Libyans. The question becomes: what did Alternate Marty do when he went back to 1955? If Alternate Marty "interfered" with his parents' meeting, to him it would be the way he'd always heard his parents recount the story: that a teenager named Calvin "Marty" Klein was hit by Lorraine's father; that Lorraine was infatuated with him for a few days; and that this ultimately led to Biff's attempted SA of her and George clocking Biff. This becomes what scifi fans call a "Predestination Paradox," in which Alternate Marty must become Calvin "Marty" Klein in order for his future to exist. However, Alternate Marty might _not_ interfere, and the logical implications get very, very twisted. It ultimately results in what scifi fans call an "Infinite Loop Paradox," where multiple different Martys start showing up in 1955. Eventually, Doc's only reasonable response would be to break the loop by never building the time machine at all. The entire matter is totally glossed-over. It's best to forget about it and enjoy the films, because dramatically they're fantastic. Indeed, this script is taught in film schools as the "perfect script" because of the way it's structured. There are entire textbooks written about it. This film was the inspiration for _Rick and Morty_ . It's obviously only the inspiration, as _Back To the Future_ and _Rick and Morty_ are fundamentally different on many levels. There's an ongoing question among scifi fas as to how Original Marty got together with Doc. According to the director and writer, Original Marty had been told by Principal Strickland that Doc was a dangerous nutcase. Being the average Gen-X teenager, Original Marty pushed-back by going to Doc's lab to see for himself. Marty found himself impressed by all the weird gadgets Doc had lying around. Doc then hired Marty to work part-time at the lab doing odd jobs for him. Along the way, Marty convinced Doc to build the gigantic amplifier for his electric guitar that we see in the opening of the film. Back in the real world: In the early hours of the October 21, 2015 (the date Doc went forward to) fans gathered at the Puente Hills Mall, the shooting location of the Lone/Twin Pines Mall, to celebrate the impending arrival of the DeLorean. Sadly, no DeLorean ever appeared, but the fan celebration was well-covered in the press. On a personal note: as an early Gen-Xer, I was the same age as the "teenaged" actors. I instantly fell in love with Lea Thompson and continue to be infatuated with her today. Female reactors like to say, "Eyes up here," when Lorraine removes her sweater in the car. Guys my age have never been able to keep their eyes "up here." It's impressive that Lea was able to transition out of ingenue roles, which is rare in Hollywood. Typically, actresses simply "age out" and are discarded, but Lea continued to act for some time. She's also a successful Broadway actress and has now transitioned into directing. Lea remains beautiful and is one of the few Gen-X actress/directors who hasn't resorted to surgery nor botox nor enhancements. She's aged far better than me, and I really respect her not having chosen the enhancement route. No doubt, if I were to ever meet her, I'd be reduced to a drooling fanboy and embarrass myself. 💗
I find it so funny that people are so insistent on this. It's a trailer. The people who saw BttF2 in the theater saw the BttF3 trailer. Are there spoilers? Technically, but nothing that takes anything away from the experience. At worst, you see a specific good guy hurting a specific bad guy. It's a comedy sci-fi action movie, of course a good guy is going to punch a bad guy. Watch it or skip it, it's not actually that big of a deal, but if you want the authentic experience of the original audience, go ahead and watch it, "spoilers" be damned.
You can watch the trailer at the end of Part 2 and you’ll be just fine. I watched all of these movies in the theater when they came out and can tell you that EVERYBODY who saw the movie also saw the trailer and didn’t complain about spoilers. It’s just a couple of quick clips to get you psyched for Part 3. Want to watch it like we did in the theater? Watch the trailer. It’ll get you in the mood for Part 3!
When Marty's brother Dave tells their father to "change that oil," he was talking about the dad's hair being greasy. It was popular for a time, especially in the 1950s, for teenage boys to grease their hair. I even remember, in my youth, putting Brycreem in my hair.
Cell phones had just started coming out, but they cost about $3.00 per minute plus your Monthly Service Charge. It was not till 1997 we bought our first cell phone and it was called a bag phone, and it only could place a call, no text messages yet. My wife and I took our new 1985 truck and drove to Texas to see about transferring from LA to Texas. While staying with my cousin, we took my cousin's daughter with us to go watch this movie.
55:50 The song that Marty plays is “Johnnie Be Good,” written by Chuck Berry, which came out in 1958. But Chuck gets a sneak preview of his own song over the telephone when Marvin calls him up (“That new sound you lookin for!”)
1. Cranky principal Strickland/James Tolkan also played the ship's squadron leader in "Top Gun". 2. The teacher that tells Marty, "Hold it fellas, I'm afraid you're just too darn loud" is Huey Lewis himself. "Heart of rock and roll" etc. 3. Eric Stoltz was first cast as Marty, but he didn't play well with others and wasn't giving the tone they were looking for. fired. Some of his long shots and small things like his elbow are still in the movie. 4. The flammable material set on fire with the model exercise had to have been put there on purpose. Movie magic. 5. It's always fun to see how people react to the Marty and his mom car scene. 6. George McFly/Crispin Glover didn't like that the story ended with the family being prosperous. DA🙄 7. Twin Pines Mall becomes Lone Pine Mall when Marty takes one out when he goes back to 1955. 8. IMVHO part II is my favorite of the trifecta. 9. If you want a first time/share of an OUTSTANDING movie where Christopher Lloyd plays the heavy you must do "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".
Bravo, you hit the nail on the head with your analysis! It would've been far easier, for somebody to have gone back to 1955 from 1985, than somebody going from 2024 to 1985! Take it from someone who experienced the 80's! The 80's, ( as well as the 90's ) were just as much a part of the Stone Age, as the 50's were! Both the 50's and the 80's depended completely on landline, and pay phones! In fact, some people still had rotary phones in the 80's! Even though cell phones came on the scene in the 90's, they were the exception not the rule! Some people watched tv in black and white in the 80's, and used rabbit ears ( antennas ) in the 90's! To deposit a check in the 50's, 80's, and 90;s, you still had to go to the bank. In the 50's no email. In the 80's, email was in use for businesses. While email began to expand to the general public in the 90's, conventional mail was still dominate. In ending, sadly this current period is still no Space Age. No flying cars, just predominantly the same old gas guzzlers, clogging the streets! Love your reaction, and wishing you continued success!
The Doc helped Marty with his amphitheater, Marty was a musician, therefore Marty needed the Doc’s expertise to help him build one. That’s how they established their friendship. It’s in the book.
In 1985, I was nine years old. My parents vetted my friends. If I had found an adult to tutor me and/or hang out with, they would have vetted him too, and probably would have not approved me hanging out alone with a female adult. So, then with their approval, my parents would not have worried about me. I had friends through all my early to high school years that my parents had vetted, along with the parents of these friends, so when I asked to go hang out with them, my parents were not concerned as long as they knew where I was going and when I would be returning. This is a significant loss from then to now. Now parents (unfortunately now usually just one) either snow-plow/helicopter parent, or are absentee parents. When as children, I and my siblings watched this, nothing about the Doc/Marty relationship seemed unusual.
Hi Ven, I loved your reaction. I just wanted to mention that the flying cars weren’t a serious prediction, but more of a fun parody of a highly technological future and the car thing was just a joke to leave the audience surprised. Even this movie was intended to end the story there and there were no plans to make sequels, but it was so successful that in the end they had to continue the story and created one of the most successful, fun and complete trilogies in cinema. Also, your reaction to the scene with Marty and Lorraine in the car was so innocent and sweet; I could really feel your discomfort and embarrassment, which made it even more adorable and entertaining. Keep it up!
28:50 George was watching a chick! So it wasn't a lie - he was truly "bird" watching 🤪 43:08 I didn't know Einstein was also stuck in 1955! 🐕 49:34 "Park" as in parking the car and making out in the car (preferably at a scenic site like a lookout point) 😉 1:04:05 A small farming town in the 1950s at 10pm in the dark days of November - there's no night life there 😝 1:07:24 Doc is going 30 years to the future..................... the future of 2015! We already passed it. And celebrated it 🤣 1:11:38 It was originally planned as just one-off movie, even open-ended, but it became successful, so was turned into a trilogy (with the 2nd and 3rd movies being shot together) 🤑
As others have said if you watch back to the future 2, when it says "to be concluded" stop the movie you are at the end. Otherwise you will see a trailer for the third movie and spoilers.
It's supposed to be "Make like a tree and leave" (as in leaf/leaves), but Biff is either too stupid to say it correctly or he does it on purpose because he thinks it's cool :)
It always find it funny that reactors are worried about Einstein on the first trip. If the movie had killed the dog, it would be famous as the movie that killed the dog. I also find it weird that reactors wonder how marty and doc became friends. It was always obvious to me that marty worked for doc, just doing errands for him. When they meet, the time travel hadn't happened yet, so they can't talk about it.
I agree! In 1985 when I saw this in the theater no one said anything about Einstein. Nor did anyone say anything or question how Doc and Marty became friends. Didn't matter. We also knew Marty had totally forgotten about the time travel thing and 88 mph when he was being chased by terrorists. He's a 17 year old kid being shot at. The only thing I remember wondering is how he was such a good driver.
Yeah, it's annoying when they freak out about that. I'm always thinking - this is a light hearted time travel romp. They're not going to kill the dog, for god's sake. Sheesh. 😎
Star Wars and Star Trek hadn't come out yet, so Marty was able to get away with saying that he was Darth Vader (Star Wars) from the planet Vulcan (Star Trek).
🎯 *At **26:58** the smiling bully wearing the white T-shirt in the background, to the immediate right of "Biff" is actor Billy Zane, who played "Cal Hockley", the fiancé of "Rose Bukater" in the 1997 movie "Titanic." ALSO: In the 30 years from 1955 to 1985 the USA changed dramatically socially, economically, technologically, politically, etc.* Some of these changes are hinted at subtly throughout the movie. For example, the 5 cents for coffee in 1955; the four Gas Station Service Employees running out to service the entire car whenever one filled up their gas tank; the Hill Valley Town Square being clean and the stores respectable in 1955 to 30 years later, the movie theater shows porn, the homeless man sleeping on a bench, indicating the city has degraded from 1955. Elvis Presley was King and The Beatles did not exist. Rock-n-Roll was in its infancy, indicated by the "interesting music" Marty played on the guitar which the dance crowd was not ready for yet.
You make a great point in your afterthoughts that I keep thinking about as well: how the mid-1950s was somehow so vastly different from the mid-1980s despite only being 30 years apart. I lived right through 1994 and can certainly confirm for you that it was not so different compared to today. So I find it unbelievable how fast things had changed (mostly in terms of pop culture and fashion rather than technologically) going from the 50s to the 80s.
There was Helicopters in the 1950's, during the Korean war, injured soldiers were flown by helicopters from the front lines to the hospitals. The TV show/movie MASH is based on this.
@@PsychicTrout-z4v The time period in the show MASH was during the Korean war, and there were helicopters during that time, so I'm not sure what you mean exactly.
@@PsychicTrout-z4v You are nitpicking words here. The show was based on a medical camp during the Korean war that used helicopters to transport the wounded. I do not think that anyone believes that the sole intent of the show was to show off helicopters.
Doc never time traveled. He invented the idea of time travel but can never get it right until 1985 he wasted 30 years I'm failing before you could finally get it right. It's a great life lesson for all of us. Can overcome our failure and learn from it.
The DeLorean car was famous for being a failed car and company, they only sold around 3500 and they went bankrupt. So in the the theater in 1985 when I saw it, everybody laughed so hard when they saw it backing out of the trailer. Speaking of trailer, the trailer for the movie to get people excited had the part where Doc points and :We're gonna send back! To the future!"
When you go to the back to very early 90s we didn't have cell phones or internet. So it was a different time. I remember when my dad had one of the early mobile phones which was the size of a shoe.
There is a lot of changes between 55 and 85 if you paid attention 85 is kind of dirty but 30 years ago the town used to be a lot cleaner and plus Louie's Cafe did not exist in the 80s they change that to something else. Some of the buildings stay the same and they're just a lot cleaner in the past and then other buildings actually did change.
41:56 Biff says “Make like a tree and get outta here.” The correct joke is “Make like a tree and leave (leaf).” But Biff is an idiot and gets the expression wrong. This same joke is repeated in the second movie as well, so look out for it.
Great reaction but some things you did not understand either.. First off, and everyone gets this wrong. GOLDIE Wilson becomes Mayor no matter what timeline it is. He was the mayor of Hill Valley even when George was being bullied from Biff. And the skateboard, in the beginning of the movie was foreshadowing for the scene later of the movie. Part 2 and 3 are also connected
There's a LOT of foreshadowing in this film. For example, one of the little clocks at the beginning depicts actor Harold Lloyd hanging off one of the hands (a scene from the silent film Safety Last! (1923)). This foreshadows both the Doc hanging the clock in his bathroom and falling, and also the Doc hanging off the clock tower hands at the end.
love the message of this movie.. don't be a wuss or your life is going to suck for a long time. might as well go for what you want - 30 years is going to pass whether you want it to or not.
@ 42:45 ... I like this girl .. I never even thought about it!! She asks, "How is he changing his voice?" Lol .. good catch that I didn't eve catch in watching it at least 100 times!! 🙂 (and I catch quite a bit in movies) 😛
A popular saying with teenagers in the 1950's was Make Like a Tree and Leaf ["leave"].But Biff screws it up royal lol. Did you notice the Twin Pines Mall Sign? At the end it is The Lone Pine Mall. this movie was NEVER intended to be the first of series. That happened when the film became so successful they decided to make sequels, and more money.
Definitely watch Back to the Future Part 2-3 all 3 movies come full circle. Also, check out the movies The Goonies(1985), Weird Science(1985), Honey, I Shrunk the Kids(1989), The Karate Kid(1984), Men in Black(1997), and Terminator 2: Judgment Day(1991).
The guitar is a "travel guitar". In this trilogy only the time changes the traveler is in the same place. In some other shows the traveler is displaced in space because of the movement of planets and galaxies over time.
The "change the oil" joke was a reference to a hair oil that George had in his hair. It was somewhat common in the 80s (although I think much more common in previous generations before the 80s) for men to use Brylcreem or some other hair additive. It was oily and sometimes just referred to as "oil."
Also, when the bully Biff says, "Now why don't you make like a tree, and get outta here," the correct way of saying it is, "Now why don't you make like a tree, and leave," which sounds like "leaf". Biff isn't exactly the brightest person.
No there's no prequel but there is a comic book series that involves prequel books and if you read the comic how Marty and Doc met. Marty has a bully in his own life just like Biff and George. His name is needles you'll learn more about him in Back to the Future the sequel. The first sequel. Needles with bulimic fly and this is before Marty had the confidence to stand up to bullies this is like a few years younger. I think he just started high School this is when he was 14 by the way in the movie he's 17 so he had 3 years to stand up to himself. When you watch the movie you know Marty already stands up for himself. Before that there was a bully name needles who bullied him and he told him to go find him some vinyl disc or something and so threatening Marty McFly he went to go steel vinyl records from somebody in that random person ended up being doc's house. He was going to borrow them but doc wasn't home so he decided to break through his window and still however doc with setting a trap test to see who would be qualified to take a job position as his science assistant. He thought Marty was one of the contestants or one of the job interviewers. First Marty lied and he got hired but then. After like a few minutes. He came clean and doc still hired him for being honest. He was disappointed that he was coming to break in. However after apologizing. Doc forgave him by accepting the job offer in earning an extra little bit of money. Marty always wanted a guitar and so tell him that. Marty decided to work for Doc turn money for his guitar. Doc also taught him how to stand up to to his bullies. And the next day Marty stood up to needles. That's when Jennifer his girlfriend kind of like his mom Lorraine fell in love with him only it's not ancest it's actually more appropriate. Therefore beginning the relationship with Marty and Jennifer and Marty and Doc Brown. Jennifer Marty were actually a thing before this event but at this point this was when needles realized that he couldn't have Jennifer because she loves Marty just like how Biff wanted to be with the rain but George won her over. Sometimes generations are never changed they're similar to the past 50s like 80s. History repeats itself.
@16:35 .. after seeing this movie at least 100 time (maybe) and countless reactions, I finally noticed that Doc is wearing Nikes!! 😲 (I think the color just always made me think they were work boots) 😲
It's never explained how the Doc and Marty became friends, but I imagine it had to do with the giant speaker that Doc built and Marty was interested because he was a guitar player.
It's not bad. Marty was only mentioning that George never stood up to this in his life so that's going to change the future but it's for the better and Marty's like we're running out of time it doesn't matter let's just get back to the future as long as I exist.
The phrase Biff says should be "Make like a tree and leave," which is a pun due to trees having leaves and the similarity to the word for depart. The joke is that he always gets it wrong, and in BttF 2 he is reprimanded for getting it wrong. As for when Lorraine talks about parking, there used to be a common practice among amorous youth of taking their cars to a secluded spot, parking there, and making out. I mean, it probably still goes on these days, but it's just not seen as a specific thing now.
Isn't it obvious he went exactly 11 minutes back. 1 minute to drive to the parking lot in 10 minutes to warm. But because the DeLorean stopped working he had to walk to the mall which was a 10-minute walk and he was only there one minute early enough time to watch docket killed and for his other self Marty to spend 1 minute to go to the past.
While the movie Tron made use of computer graphics in 1982 (they were denied an Oscar because using computers was "cheating") modern CGI would not be seen until The Abyss (1989) and even then, nobody had any idea what could really be done with it until 2 years later when T2 shocked us with effects not even dreamed of before. Like 99.9% of 80s movies, all three BttF movies are 100% practical effects.
For the people who like to comment negatively on the reactor speaking too much........Um, it's a reaction. The assumption is that you've already seen the movie, likely multiple times. You know half the lines from memory.....so what are you looking to hear if not the reactors commentary?? You want to watch the movie, go stream it somewhere.
two points... "In the future we don't need roads" was the thinking in 1955 about the future 30 years ahead - so the use in the film has been a reference to the past. If you want to know what has really happened 30 years after the end of the film you'll have to ask youtube "back to the future jimmy kimmel" and not bttf part II B-)
Some things like Goldie becoming mayor or Marty "inventing" the skateboard are just gags. They don't follow the same rules as everything else so they're just meant to be funny.
The way Marty's Mom feels about him before end is how I feel about You! The song in movie, same as Marty's band played without singing, is band Huey and the News, song The Power of Love, the guy that stood up and said, It's just too Loud...was Huey Lewis! Watch on UA-cam his band singing Power of Love, original video, it has Doc in it and the car. 💕💋💕
when Marty was younger he snuck into Doc's barn and instead of turning him in or chasing him out he showed him stuff he was working on and they became friends
First, and most important, "parking" is sort of code. A couple "go parking" if they want to become more intimately acquainted and are looking for a private place to do it. It's what they do if they want to "make out" with each other. Both are American slang. And, yes, the story does play fast and loose with its time travel rules. Both the Chuck Barry song and Mayor Goldie Wilson are examples of what is known as a "Bootstrap Paradox". Marty gives Goldie the idea to run for mayor because in the future he is mayor. So who came up with the idea? And Marty knows the song Johnny B. Goode because Chuck Barry wrote it. But here he got the idea from Marty, so who wrote it? In both cases the answer is: No one wrote it and no one gave Goldie the idea, it exists in a paradox loop of impossibility. That's a problem with deterministic time travel. On the other hand, Marty is constantly changing his future by everything he does, where if the previous rules applied, everything he did always happened and would still result in the original future. How about this: How did Doc know Marty? That's easy, they met in 1955! So in the second timeline Doc went looking for Marty so they could become friends so he could travel to the past! Questions, questions. Like if they are friends, why didn't Marty know about this time machine Doc has been working on for thirty years. And where was it? Not in his garage/apartment. And my favorite one: Why did Doc back the Delorean out of his truck? Why was he in the Delorean in the truck? He couldn't have gotten into the car in the truck - you couldn't open the gullwing doors inside, it's too narrow. He would have had to get in the car, drive it into the truck, and back out again when Marty was there. That's the real mystery!

No sé si esta chica es consciente de que habla más que los propios diálogos de la película. Comentar está bien, reaccionar está bien, pero pensar en alto y hacerse preguntas literalmente cada dos segundos es demasiado. Qué estrés, madre mía!

Thanks for your reaction to this movie❗ Just a suggestion, if you react to "Back to the Future II," please also react to the Preview at the end of the movie for "Back to the Future III," because that is the way it was shown in the movie theaters in 1989 and it does not ruin the movie, but it gets you excited to see the next movie❗ Thanks❗ 😃
Hi, thank you so much for reacting to BTTF Part 1 and for your great reactions. Please do watch Parts 2 & 3 as BTTF really is The Greatest Trilogy EVER, and from your reactions, you are going to love them, please don't leave it too long. Just in case, a spoiler alert, when you get to the end of part two it will show 'TO BE CONCLUDED', it may be best to stop it there as it shows some bits of part three, which can spoil it for some people. Looking forward to the next one 🙂
The teacher who said it was too loud is the actual artist, Huey Lewis, who sang that song. 😂
Fun Fact: MJF was filming this movie at the same time he was filming a TV show he was on called Family Ties, so when he looks exhausted its because he REALLY is
from 1955 to 1985 things changed A WHOLE LOT
And they're going to change a WHOLE LOT more, in the next decade. That's when Quantum computers are coming. They are going to speed up the trial and error processes involved with designing more capable machines to UNIMAGINABLE levels. There will be some great things coming from this, but the scariest thing is the possibility of Terminator style robots. ARMIES of them. Even if the robots don't turn against us, the Warmongers of Washington will use them to start WW3. The whole world might end up looking like Gaza. 😬
From 1994 to 2024 things have also changed a whole lot.
@@awesomelana7227 Not as much.
@@awesomelana7227Name me one thing from 1994 to 2024 that even begins to compare with the civil rights bill.
@@awesomelana7227 Before 1955, there was no teenage culture. No rock 'n roll. No rebellion. Boys went into the family business and girls
were strictly brought up to become housewives. Nobody questioned this. Not until Elvis appeared and changed the world.
From 1955 to 1985, so many changes happened that you could argue that it was no longer the same planet.
Between 1985 and 2024, things have changed in terms of the Internet, social media and smartphones, etc, but none of those things
are new. They were invented back in the 1955-85 period, and everything we have today is basically just improved models of old tech.
If you could go back to the 90s, the only main difference would be the fashion and the lack of smartphones. Regular mobile phones
would be quite common, though, but they would only be used for phoning and texting. The music would also be a LOT better.
But if you went back to the 50s, the only thing that would be the same would be that cars needed 4 wheels to move, even then...
There was no computer generated anything in 1985. This movie was made using optical effects and special built cameras. Welcome back to 1985 :)
There was some CGI before 1985, The Last Starfighter, Tron, a little bit in Star Trek 2 etc...
A few points:
The judge who interrupts Marty's band with the admonition that, "you're just too darned loud," is Huey Lewis.
When Marty goes back to 1985, the mall is named "Lone Pine Mall."
One extreme bit of subtlety is that George is left-handed.
George clocking Biff with his left hand is when George is finally able to overcome his self-doubts and simply "be himself."
Biff saying, "Make like a tree and get out of here," is a joke based on incorrect use of slang that's now fallen out of use.
Something I didn't notice until UA-cam reactors started blurting it out:
_Why did Lorraine remove Marty's pants??_ He had a concussion, not something that would necessitate the removal of his pants!
I'll leave the implications of what Lorraine might have done while Marty's pants were off to the imagination.
Another thing I'd not considered until a _female_ reactor mentioned it:
_Lorraine changing in front of her window was intentional._
This _female_ reactor said that Loreaine knew exactly what she was doing by leaving her window open while she changed -- and George falling into the street wasn't the first time some guy had climbed a tree to look at Lorraine.
It took this _female_ reactor supporting this with dialog for me to really think about it. When Lorraine's father hits Marty, he calls out:
"Another one of those damned kids jumped in front of my car!"
I'd never pondered the implications of "another." This _female_ reactor said that it meant guys climbed the tree so frequently that Lorraine's father misinterpreted them dropping from the branch as jumping in front of the car.
This film creates a very strange paradox that's neither broached nor resolved:
When Marty returns to 1985, he sees a version of himself go back in time.
Back in the real world:
In the early hours of the October 21, 2015 (the date Doc went forward to) fans gathered at the Puente Hills Mall, the shooting location of the Lone/Twin Pines Mall, to celebrate the impending arrival of the DeLorean.
Guys my age have never been able to keep their eyes "up here."
It's impressive that Lea was able to transition out of ingenue roles, which is rare in Hollywood.
When you watch Back to the future 2, stop at the end when you get to the "To be concluded". Don't want to have spoilers for Back to the Future 3.
I confirm!
There is the trailer for the third at the end of the second... right after "to be continued" 😉
And to make you aware ahead of time the part of Jennifer was recast because Claudia Wells was caring for her dying mother
Nah, bump that
Watch the trailer and see the film the way we did back then.
When Marty's brother Dave tells their father to "change that oil," he was talking about the dad's hair being greasy. It was popular for a time, especially in the 1950s, for teenage boys to grease their hair.
I even remember, in my youth, putting Brycreem in my hair.
Brylcreem is still available, and advertising that their "Classic Look" is popular again. Frankly I think it's the cat's meow.
A little dab'l do 'ya.
You are very innocent, that phrase has a double meaning, changing the oil means : "make sex" or "to fuk" lol
Us Latinos used tres flowers. But I stop using it when I became a teenager
Ignore the negative comments, they don't speak for all of us. I enjoyed your reaction, Gooday from Australia 😇
55:50 The song that Marty plays is “Johnnie Be Good,” written by Chuck Berry, which came out in 1958. But Chuck gets a sneak preview of his own song over the telephone when Marvin calls him up (“That new sound you lookin for!”)
Don´t try to understand Time Traveling. Nobody does. Greetings from a Man who watched this Movie very, very often.😂😂😂
DA🙄

The
Doc helped Marty with his amphitheater, Marty was a musician, therefore Marty needed the Doc’s expertise to help him build one.
😎👍 The expression "This song really cooks" (at 55:19) was common beatnik slang for any uptempo song that was easy to dance to back in the mid-1950s.
Yea yea we get it, you are not easy to impress...a Toyota Pickup Truck in the 80s for a 17year old, would be a great thing for him for sure
The guy playing Biff is actually a very nice guy who is a stand up comedian
Which would mean he is a very effective actor, playing the bully quite well.
This is a great trilogy by one of the great producer/directors of the 70's-2000's Lucas, Spielberg, Bennet, Brooks, Simpson and Bruckheimer.
42:22 "He needs to be a little more subtle" --> Imedietly proceeds to prenting to be an alien to scare his dad.

Keep it up!

1:11:38 It was originally planned as just one-off movie, even open-ended, but it became successful, so was turned into a trilogy (with the 2nd and 3rd movies being shot together) 🤑

Christ that made me feel old xD
As others have said if you watch back to the future 2, when it says "to be concluded" stop the movie you are at the end. Otherwise you will see a trailer for the third movie and spoilers.
The teacher who auditioned the band in the beginning of the movie is Huey Lewis. His band provided the soundtrack for the movie.
He, reportedly, based that on an actual complaint he got during an audition

It's supposed to be "Make like a tree and leave" (as in leaf/leaves), but Biff is either too stupid to say it correctly or he does it on purpose because he thinks it's cool :)
@@Novacification I think Biff and this stupid bimbo would make a good couple because the two of them are stupider than a box of rocks
Sheesh. 😎
I was born in 56, yeah, more changed than you think to the 80's and in many different ways. The whole attitude of people changed.
the doc tore up the letter but you see him put it in his pocket when the tree gets struck by lightning and so he just sellotaped it back together
It's not the same house. Where Marty hid the car was the development where his future house would be.

I laughed out loud @11:58 ~ "Okay, I'm guessing that's The Doc .. He looks crazy..." (LOL - Cute) - She'll LOVE Doc by the time this movie is over!! 🙂
Star Wars and Star Trek hadn't come out yet, so Marty was able to get away with saying that he was Darth Vader (Star Wars) from the planet Vulcan (Star Trek).
@20:22 "Into a barn, .. what is this?" (Too Cute!!) ❤

I wonder what rock someone has to have lived under to not have seen this movie in 2024?
No it wasn't.
@@PsychicTrout-z4v The time period in the show MASH was during the Korean war, and there were helicopters during that time, so I'm not sure what you mean exactly.
@tonydavis8696 the show wasn't based on helicopters.
@@PsychicTrout-z4v You are nitpicking words here. The show was based on a medical camp during the Korean war that used helicopters to transport the wounded. I do not think that anyone believes that the sole intent of the show was to show off helicopters.
@tonydavis8696 the helicopter was invented in 1939.
Einstein: looks absolutely fine.
You: poor dog.
🤣
20:06 isn't it better than be dead?
You asked if Doc was from the past.. yeah, he lived there! 😄 (he time traveled from the past the same way we all do)
Great reaction but some things you did not understand either..
Part 2 and 3 are also connected
i see thanks
There's a LOT of foreshadowing in this film. For example, one of the little clocks at the beginning depicts actor Harold Lloyd hanging off one of the hands (a scene from the silent film Safety Last! (1923)). This foreshadows both the Doc hanging the clock in his bathroom and falling, and also the Doc hanging off the clock tower hands at the end.
@@VenezuelaGirlReacts One night Marty went into The Doc's garage and found out he was a inventor and became his friend and his assistant!

No matter how many movies predict it, we never get the flying cars! 😔😄
They most certainly didn't predict the future at all, but it was fun.
Uncle Joey loved being in his playpen. No wonder he didn't make his parole when he was older. I don't think he wanted to leave prison.

Always loved the shot at 56:12 such great coordination with the actors
The guitar is a "travel guitar". In this trilogy only the time changes the traveler is in the same place. In some other shows the traveler is displaced in space because of the movement of planets and galaxies over time.
The "change the oil" joke was a reference to a hair oil that George had in his hair. It was somewhat common in the 80s (although I think much more common in previous generations before the 80s) for men to use Brylcreem or some other hair additive. It was oily and sometimes just referred to as "oil."
Yeah, it was a very 1960's thing (all the old NASA footage shows men who look like George) and leave it to him to stick with a look.
@@Billinois78 Yeah, my uncle and some of his friends used it in the 80s but they were in their 70s so they were adults in the 50s and 60s.

Near the start, 1985 Doc said he was going 25 years into the future. That means he was going to go to the year 2010.
Thanks for using subtitles. Can really help to follow the story
Fun reaction, thank you😊😊😊
Isn't it obvious he went exactly 11 minutes back. 1 minute to drive to the parking lot in 10 minutes to warm. But because the DeLorean stopped working he had to walk to the mall which was a 10-minute walk and he was only there one minute early enough time to watch docket killed and for his other self Marty to spend 1 minute to go to the past.
In 1955, JFK was a junior US senator from Virginia.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
Great react!!!! Welcome into this perfect trilogy!!!!!
There's a new DeLorean coming next year, the DeLorean Alpha5. Unfortunately at $125,000 I would never be able to afford one.
Greatest Movie of all time from the greatest year for movies of all time 1985!! GenX forever
The Brits sometimes call women "birds". So, he WAS bird watching! 😊
two points...
(41:55)
"make like a tree, and get out of here"
it's suppose to be, "make like a tree, and leave" (you know, because trees have leaves ...)
That's the real mystery!
its a comment section, not "write a rambling novella section"
@@baron7755 Aw, do all those words make your brain hurt? People can speak how they damn well please, and they don’t need your or anyone else’s approval. Here’s a wild revelation for you: You don’t actually *have* to give your useless two cents. I know-I understand it’s hard to believe, but that’s the reality. Don’t like what another random commenter has to say? Cool. Move along. Man, the internet truly has people convinced that EVERYTHING under the Sun (including the Sun itself) demands their feedback at every turn.
Tl;dr: Keep those moldy, misshapen pennies to yourself, Baron von Smegma. Nobody asked you.

Biff got the saying wrong. It's "make like a tree, and leave." Trees have leaves, of course. And to leave, is to "get outta here."
@@dan1216Then don't watch the ones you consider to be "annoying." There are plenty of people who are perfectly happy letting a reactor react.
@@njwagoner66 Don't worry, I don't watch them. I got five minutes into this one one and bailed.
Get ready for a ride….great trilogy x
Doc got to know Marty back in 1955 so he knew him already before Marty was born 😉
Great reaction! Don’t listen to naysayers. This one earned you a sub.
I never understood why he started fading when the guy cut in at the dance because nobody intervened and it was all his Dad 2.0
It is funny and informative to watch your reactions, bcs you tell all your thoughts - all the time.
Have a good one! ✌🏻
Your Chihuahua is adorable
thanks!
Thank you for mixing up major and mayor at the end it amused me. I just thought he would have thought about being mayor later anyway.
Luckily there was the model scene to explain the end of the film to him.
My favorite movie of all time!
