First person I’ve ever seen who agreed with bringing the face hugger back to earth for study. Love this young lady’s slightly different take on many things. Unique perspectives are always fun. She did forget about the acid blood after the chest burst scene, though. How do so many forget about that when the baby xenomorph is “born”? You have to assume it also has acid blood that could possibly eat through the ship’s hull, at which point an alien would be the least of your concerns.
I couldn't help a grin when you said it doesn't look like a comedy Fran. Oh, and please watch the sequel 'Aliens', it has very different vibe but it's one of best sequels ever made. After that though the franchise kinda goes downhill fast.
@@AlexanderStewart-k2v Some characters are just not expendable. The ending of Aliens was ruined by the beginning of Akien3. They have to make it back to Earth safely before anything else can happen..
4:00 "Is it good smoking on the ship?" Smoking is never good. But, even doctors in the 1950s recommended smoking to some patients as a treatment for anxiety. It does have a soothing effect. Many companies in the 1950s preferred to hire smokers because they stayed more relaxed at work and handled stress better. By the time this movie was made, doctors knew smoking was bad and the message was getting out to the world, but people were slow to change. It wasn't until 1990 that the United States banned smoking on airplanes. An airplane usually has a lot more than 7 people in a much smaller space, and in 1979 it was normal to smoke during flights. So the people making this movie equated the spaceship to an airplane, but with fewer people and much more air inside. Side note: Smoking won't kill them. Breathing will. Every time a human exhales, it fills the spaceship with a little more CO2. When there is enough CO2, they will all die. NASA solved this in the 1960s to keep real astronauts alive in space by filtering the air and cleaning out the CO2. If you watch the movie Apollo 13 they talk about this a little. The same air filters will clean up the smoke, too - they just have to change the filters a little more often (a small price to pay for a relaxed crew that can handle more stress).
Regarding Ash and the rolled-up magazine: 1) He's trying to do to Ripley what the Face-hugger did to Kane, by going in through her mouth and 2) he is a robot that is malfunctioning all over the place and it appears he is also committing some twisted form of rape.
There is also a sexual ( erotic ) component to this scene , admitted by Ridley Scott . Also HG Giger was rather erotic in his drawings ( air brushed artwork )
5:50 "I really want to know how long this journey has been." OK. From Earth to wherever they got the refinery they are towing, approximately 20 months. They probably spent a little time hooking it up and preparing to tow it back to Earth. Then approximately 10 months until the start of the movie. They are expecting to visit this planetoid then spend approximately 10 more months returning home.
So busy asking questions! This film is a master-class in building and releasing suspense. You can't do that if you are not following the flow of the scenes by trying to out-think it. I understand you trying to pick up on details, and being probably a bit nervous. Best of luck growing your channel and discovering more fine old movies. And ALIENS is now required viewing.
As originally written, the Nostromo's crew were prospectors; They'd land on a planet, take some core samples, and return them to the refinery for processing and evaluation for potential colonization and exploitation. They only have enough air and supplies to be out of hibernation for a few days at a time. The ship purifies the air while they're asleep, and the food they're eating is their own recycled waste- Parker even makes a joke about it just as Kane is starting to heave.
Never been a fan of Alien, but hopefully this means Aliens is coming next, and its great! I also like both Alien 3 & 4, but they might not get many views.
The smoking thing is hard to grasp now, not that it ever made sense, but you have to remember that, once upon a time, you'd have huge numbers of smokers everywhere, from restaurants (where the "non-smoking" section, if there was one, was just a different set of tables right next to the smokers) to airplanes. It was a huge cultural struggle to get smoking moved to areas where the second-hand smoke exposure for non-smokers was minimal. Even more so to get people to stop. 1979 was still prime "cigarettes are sold in coin-operated vending machines that a toddler can operate" time. It's sorta like if we suddenly discovered that we needed to stop people from drinking coffee. It, uh, would be a struggle.
The computer outputs INTERFACE 2037 READY FOR INQUIRY 3:47 you note "2037" as the year. Just for the record, folks, "interface" does *not* mean "year".
Everything about this movie is incredible. I remember watching it at the cinema. Let´s just say I am not sure I have un-clenched yet to this day. ;D Great actors... and the design of the ship... everything is unnerving. Lovely to see you appreciating it. Thank you for posting this reaction.
24:10 "Ash disobeyed the senior officer." "So he's clearly in the wrong here." Maybe not. His argument is that obeyed a direct order from the senior officer, Captain Dallas. Kane is second in command but has an alien on his face so isn't giving any orders. Ripley is third in command. But, when Dallas and Kane were off the ship, the Junior Warrant officer is the most senior officer remaining. But, Dallas was on the ship, in the airlock. His feet were on the ship, not the ground outside. They might both be right. But, the final say in the argument is when Dallas (the captain) tells Ripley that Ash (the science officer) has full authority with all decisions regarding science. Company's rules. So letting the organism on board to study it for science is literally what Ash has the authority to do and Ripley, Kane, and Dallas have no authority to countermand his orders. So it appears he followed the company regulations when he opened that hatch. Or at least, it's not very clear at all.
Watching Alien without expectations. What a treat. 😄 Really quite interesting to hear what someone thinks of it who isn't already familiar with the films reputation.
The newest movie is Alien: Romulus and it takes place after this movie in the timeline. So if you want you can watch it next. Prometheus is also part of the Alien franchise and it is really good also
Someone asked you to shrink your camera circle, but I like you having a large camera circle, I love seeing your beautiful facial expressions and beautiful smile❤
Ridley Scott had a limited budget here and Alien could very well have been a terrible B movie. Instead, he created a masterpiece which holds up 40 years later. Ripley is considered to be the first strong female leads in a Hollywood picture.

Hi, it's great you've seen this sci-fi classic, it's amazing! Please react to it's incredible sequel Aliens (1986) soon, it's best sequel. In this original movie, one of the writers/producers got the idea for the chestburster scene from a dream!
I saw this movie in 1979 when it came out it theatres. This was the second most scary movie I saw. The only movie more scary is the Exorcist 1973. it scared everyone in the theatre. it didnt seem to scare you that much. There are a lot of sexual undertones in the movie. Some people see it others dont. I think you reaction should have had a little longer clips , with the key scenes. There are a lot of movies in this Franchise. if you watch others I will say do the prequel which is Prometheus, then the Sequel to this movie which is Aliens. Then the sequel to Prometheus which is Alien Covenant. As far as the other movies I think they are junk.
xenomorphs first time for you i guess i watched it 500 times in all its glory i got the clip's and added them together sadly the clips were in 720 but i can deal with that.

Before you venture on to the sequel ALIENS, ALIEN 3, and ALIEN RESURRECTION, which all feature Sigourney Weaver, the egg hatches the xenomorph that attaches to the face, known as a face-hugger, to lay the egg inside a warm bodied lifeform. It is based on the female reproductive system, which you will clearly see in the sequel. The alien head represents the male organ. Once laid inside the body, the chestburster breaks out of the body to become the fullsized alien. All forms carry the acid for blood. That is why they couldn't stab or kill it when it exploded from Kaine's chest. The acid would spray on them and eat away their bodies. Try to remember, we have seen these movies. You can tell he was heavily influenced by the writings of the American H.P. Lovecraft.
True nightmare stuff. H R was truly unique.

Great sci-fi horror movie. Back when this was made people were optimistic that technology would have us deep in space by now.
We got all the worst parts of the "hyper-corp" future; evil oligarchic monopolies, zero space travel.
