Interesting...the Red 280SL project I am currently working on was previously a manual but someone has attempted to swap it to an auto - I have yet to attempt to start it. The one thing I am struggling with is how the D Jettronic ECU is held up in the front footwell. This car didn't come with a bracket and the bracket from my 450SL parts car is different. My other 280SL is 1976 and has the later K Jetronic different system. Mike
Brilliant Mike, always brilliant! I’m in the uk for a couple of weeks, if you’re up for a coffee, it must my turn to buy! Will be in the area from the 16th - 21st.
Thanks for you comment. Yes - I was surprised at how well they came out. The softer (more expensive) foam (Dodomat) gave a better result Its not cheap...but there again neither is an SL. Mike
Great video as usual, re carpeted my 450SL on the first lockdown, got the carpets from TechAutoUk, great quality. Unfortunately the underlaying pads were missing but with video I think I can make them. Thank you for sharing. Ps. Sad to have seen your other 280SL gone to the yard
Thanks for your comment - I'll check out TechAutoUK. How much did youb pay for your carpet set and what colour did you go for? Mike...Yes sad about the 280SL...such a beautiful car.
@@MikesMercsandothercars At TechAutosUk I pad just over £500 including all the extra bits as well as a fitting kit such as glue spray, clips ect. Color I got was navy blue. Independent business and great person to deal with called Josh.
Thanks - coming from the master, that is high praise indeed! I happened to watch the video below and was reminded at how long it takes and how much it costs to sort one of these old mercs out properly. How's your latest acquisition? Mike ua-cam.com/video/mA3YCe2j6ZY/v-deo.html&t
trying to find one for my RHD 86 300sl (drivers footwell) apparently the later models have a different design of mat to the earlier models, proving a nightmare to try and find one! Threw my old one away as it was wet so have nothing to use as a stencil either! Nightmare!
Hi - have you tried Mercedes to see if they still make them? Next stop would be SL shop. I’m out in Australia at the moment but can ring around when I get back if you have no luck. Mike
Yep...some of these videos are probably more detailed than necessary.... Might use your idea of playing videos at twice speed on some of the other channels I watch. Mike
I just bought my 280SLC and your videos help me a lot to rebuild it to it's full glory, great video, thank you !
Thank you for your comment and I'm glad that some of my videos were useful. What year is your car? Mike

Fantastic. Give yourself a pat on the back as you have just saved me a packet as I've been looking on Ebay for some old under mats. Many thanks
