This video made me understand better what the heck is going on with this topic
The problem is like a lot of people he is jumping to the whole its only about Greed aspect having totally ignored what the governing body for Football in Europe with the backing of the European League operators and each countries governing body have been trying to do to make them more money off the back of the big clubs who without their revenues for the Champions league would be lucky if its 20% of what it currently is. They choose to ignore the feedback of the clubs and only backed down on their plans to basically create a UEFA super league WHEN rumours about a breakaway emerged and their compromise reform isn't much better which the clubs told them and they ignored. There is a reason why the whole ESL process seems so badly planned and that's because while there is some self-interest it's not just that, its them losing faith in UEFA having the best interests of the game and this being the only card they had to play to either make UEFA listen or break UEFA's hold over European Football
Why do I feel like he has a deeper voice when talking about serious issues. It’s so smooth to listen to.
It's cuz he's passionate about those topics
Isn't this basically what US sport is like but he didn't want to say it?!
Well there are no teams "left out of the party" in US leagues if that is what you mean. There is no relegation but just about all US/Canadian sports leagues do implements rules to try and keep the playing field as even as possible. For example, salary caps, drafts, revenue sharing, etc. Relegation wouldnt work because where would teams get relegated to?
I don't get them, how do you have a league with no relegation? And the worse team of the season gets to pick the best player of universities all over the country, they won't get it and never will
Nope

To put it in words Americans can understand: this is like the top 12 most valuable teams in MLB broke off to start their own league.
Not exactly an appropriate comparison since the MLB, just like the now defunct Super League, is a closed club where only the invited teams can play in. In world football (except the MLS) thanks to the relegation/promotion system ANY team could potentially rise to the top, win their country’s top tier competition and, if they’re in Europe, enter the Champions’ League.
If the MLB had promotion and relegation it’d be as if a AAA League team from Birmingham Alabama got promoted to the MLB and won the World Series and the Super League was going to shit can that possibility.

I'm pretty sure he understands that, really not that complicated honestly.
@@dangler1907 Americans won't ever get it.The NFL is just like the "Super League" with 32 instead of 20 teams.. What you are talking about is if teams from "Super League" broke off again from the "Super League" to form the "Super Super League". Let me explain it for you. The NFL has 32 teams and nothing else no relegation, basically nothing. Europe has around 100.000 teams in football. From really low tier backyard football to the 1013 professional clubs. And the beauty is that any of those 100.000 clubs, literally any of them, if they are good enough through time and ranking up could someday get promoted to a league which grants them professional status and perhaps someday even win the champions league (which is if you don't know the 32 top teams in Europe from the past season from all countries.) with the only requirement that they play good enough. That's what happens when you have such a perfect system. And what those guys tried is to ruin it with an American-like franchise based closed league where teams can't get relegated or promoted, thus making the dream of your low tier backyard club competing with them someday non existent. It's what this sport is all about. The dream if you and your mates are good enough, you can push your team, your local community team perhaps, to the highest heights. That's what football is about. That's what they tried to ruin. That's what you don't get. And please unless you guys form actual leagues with promotion/relegation don't ever mistake your entertainment frenchises with actual sports or competitions.
He could have basically just compared it to the NFL or NBA but he's tryna weasel his way in to getting the audience to agree with him that its bad - which they won't do if they realize its just like American sports which they know and love.

Thank you James, I love European football. I was trying to understand the Super League drama and you explained it so clearly. I never thought you'd be knowledgeable about sports. Thank you 😊
The monologue segment is like Twitter for James; he can have banter with people *and* speak passionately about any mainstream issue on his mind
"Leicester has one more Premier League titel than Spurs." If his audience was european, they would all be laughing.
Yea 😂😂😂even James knows that Spurs are the worst.

I was literally crying when this news came out.
Only the true fans of the game can understand the emotion. It was brave from James doing this in an American TV show where there are literally nobody who knows about this except the owners themselves.
Yeah dude literallly none of the 320 million Americans know what’s going on with the super league. So true
I am one of the 320 million Americans who didn't know about this or that even was a premier league. I feel like I've just assumed it was franchised like american sports, but I don't think the thoughts ever crossed my mind until now.
It’s not like there are immigrants in the US or the MLS or just people who are fans football.

big respect for james here talking about this major issue at length, taking his stand, even if he knows his american audiences could not relate. Also, this proves how great football (Soccer) is as a sport - how people talk about it with passion and how the sport highly promotes community, grassroots development and fair play. Thank you for using your platform to shed light onto this. There are real football (soccer) fans in the USA who not only get up at ridiculous times to support their team but also pay to watch them. For owners to do this behind everyone’s back in my opinion should be removed and given a job in the USA sports system where the good and bad teams always have a spot next year. European soccer is not MLS.
i think this is the first time he actually means what he’s saying not reading from a script
The time he reported on the Manchester Arena bomb the night it happened almost in tears
He's been pretty open about not being comfortable with monologues because it's not his type of comedy so he just has the writers handle it. He does a desk piece like this about once a year though, and he nails it.
