    9 Tools to Change the Game // Sea of Thieves
    I have been thinking a lot about how Sea of Thieves' sandbox hasn't changed much since launch and with the introduction of new tools like the Ashen Winds skull, let's just say there are a tonne of pick-ups that could be added to the game.

    Hit reg is one of the biggest enemies of weapon development. Imagine taking a shot with the Elephant gun and dying because the shot hit, but didn’t count

      Same with the boarding Axe! Hit reg is genuinely terrible sometimes

    I think a smoke bomb would be pretty cool as a new throwable, you could blind enemy ships or just use it to hide or get away from other players

      Or it could be only found on ghost ships, and called 'Soulbomb' or something along this lines, and it releases a bunch of green mist that acts as a smoke bomb. That or a 'Shroudbomb' that can slowly damage people and ships

      Could also have it extinguish fire inside its radius. Could make it so that taking a direct hit with one reduces its duration but covers you in soot like when you cannon a pet. Water would wash it off, either swimming or copping a bucket. It'd wear off too after a short time (minutes tops). Could make blunder bombs disperse the smoke, too, shortening the duration or canceling the smoke altogether. That'd give almost a "countering trinity" where blunder bomb > smoke bomb > fire bomb, not sure what fire bombs could do to blunder bombs to counter them, maybe fire (being on fire or just the projectile "touching" fire) makes a blunder bomb explode instantly like you threw it at your feet.
      Smoke bombs could be a great defensive tool, too. Throw one on your own ship to obscure your enemy's view of you so you can try and raise the anchor or put out a fire on your ship, or just repair holes without being immediately seen by a boarder. The offensive useses are obvious, sew chaos on the enemy ship, obscure their view of you as you death spiral or attempt to board or keg, etc.

      Smoke bombs would be cool but i think we are not going to get those because smoke bombs did not exist on year 1650-1830

    Flares = would love to see that. Especially on large islands when hunting captains or for alerting other crews. Perhaps just doing "fireworks" as a purchaseable item in a new store to open a new thing to spend gold on.

      @@arathyn8294 Except they appear to be cannon-based only from the Season 5 preview. The best use case is as a personal item a pirate can use away from the ship, or on it.

    I think the axe could work as a regular melee weapon alongside the sword.
    40 damage per swing, But its slower and theres a pauze after two swings instead of three, and you cant block with it.

      but why? 2 swings @ 80 makes it impractical for PVP combat... esp if you can't block with it. Two at 50 and "maybe" you have something, since you trade the risk of a kill for your own death.

      @@chazzerine7650 buy why? You have no advantage to switch between the two weapons as suggested. 40 Axe + 2 sword hits for 50 (25 each) doesn't kill.

      @@lavvgiver Its about the Moveabillity, you can block and dash with a Sword. As well has having a 3 hit combo dealing 75 damage, while the Axe can do a Combo of 80.

    I think the boarding axe would work better as just another weapon option with infinite uses that works slightly different from the sword. More damage but a significantly attack slower animation, charged attack isn't a lunge but deal more damage the longer you spent charging it up to a max that one shots. This charge attack can also damage a ship, but the axe gets stuck in the planks for a while which effectively stuns you for a good 5 seconds. If you miss a player with the charged attack you might hit the a part of the ship and unintentionally stun yourself, which is one of the risks of playing with this weapon. It might be too strong, it might be able to do too much, but these are just a few ideas that might be fun.

    I think the boarding axe should be as useful and common as the cutlass but instead it should definitely be slower and should be more focused on ship damage.

    I want them to add a specific bait bucket that you throw behind your ship so the ship chasing you gets attacked by the kraken

    Hook shot should be cannot hook players, infinite uses, slower, and only pick up small loot

    Here is my idea
    "Alchemy Potions" essentially throwables that do different things
    1. Venom Flask - leaves behind a puddle of Snake venom that damages players who are standing in it
    2. Grog Flask - Throw it at an enemy and they get drunk / throw it at a fire and it explodes
    3. Spore Flask - creates a bouncy mushroom to jump on for 10 seconds
    4. Bone Dust Flask - Throw it at a group of Skeletons to make them attack each other - if thrown against players their blinded for a few seconds
    5. Water Flask - gets rid of fire but can also be used to flood an enemy ship
    6. Flask of the Dammed - you get it from defeating Flameheart - throw it and it creates Blue fire that deals damage quicker and takes multiple hits of water to fizzle out + its not affected by rain
    7. Empty Flask - you can fill it with Venom useing a captured snake - you can fill it with water - you canfill it with grog useing the blue barrel - empty flasks can be brought in groups of 5 at the merchants
    you can find crates with random amounts of them on islands and a full crate can be sold to the reapers or the order or the merchants and you can carry 5 flasks total

    Grapple hook idea would be better if it was a line and hook, you can carry 5 in the inventory like the blunders and planks, you can sprint while carrying them ( it’s just rope and a hook) can be attached to the back of ships and other areas such as the mast, boom, bow, and sides. They can be used to swing across to other ships and other surfaces like islands, climbing them is slow, slightly slower than the ladder, they stay in place until they are shot cut or pushed off.

    🤔 all incredible ideas....however I have one issue with most of them...weapons and tools mostly.
    The grappling hook shouldn't be limited to having to be a pickup, but should indeed have its drawbacks. Such as reduced range, less damage than a harpoon, slower retract duration, and leaves you wide open if you miss.
    The Siege cannon: slower reload, slower ADS, smaller jumps, has blastback knocking you back.
    Elephant gun (personally I'd call it Warsmith Fist) slow reload, high bullet drop, reduced range. (Longer than pistol, shorter than eye of reach).
    Boarding axe: the benifits of this would be useful as a tool alone, and not acquired from sailing. This could really level out a team vs 1 battle by allowing wide swings to hit multiple targets at once in front of you. However, it's slow, makes it hardwr to jump, and leaves you open if you manage to miss the power attack.
    If I could post longer posts, I would...but there is a limit.

    A really cool feature with the hook gun would be if two ships were in close proximity, you could grapple to the other ship by aiming at the mast.

    maybe the boarding axe could work like the sword, except it can block, but it can remove planks, so its objectively the worst weapon but it allows solo players to do some damage from the inside

    A very cool addition would be a musket with a bayonet. It would do a little less damage than the sniper, and have a dash attack that did the same damage as the swords dash, but it only could dash, no swing. But it would take up both weapon slots since it’s a 2 in one.I don’t know if you mentioned this because I’m commenting at the beginning :)

    For the boarding axe I feel it should be more like the sword, it would do more damage then the sword but be very slow swinging, it would have the ability to remove planks but it would take some time to remove them,

    With the cannon, I think instead of less range (I don't see why it would be) it should have a ton of recoil and knock you back, and maybe even deal damage to the player shooting it.

      That would lead to so many hilarius moments. I can already picture some pirates fighting atop Crooks hollow or similar, one dude picks this thing up, maybe oneshots somebody and sends himself flying off the cliff. 🤣 (Like the little guy at the beginning of PotC 3 - forgot his name)

    Cannon doesn’t need to break. Just needs a really slow reload. And it should be dependent on if you have cannon balls in your inventory

    for the skeleton lord's hand, a cool way of showing how many uses you have left is, whenever you do the attack the hand loses a finger, and after they're all gone it breaks.

    I have an idea for a new weapon
    So it would be kinda like the axe, but instead it would be a giant 2 handed hammer!
    You could customize them like a cutlass, but that’s not really important. The weapon would be a 2-3 hit kill and would take way longer to use than the cutlass. You wouldn’t be able to run or swim fast with it in your hands. The weapon would also have some knock back to it sort of like the cutlass when you hit someone 3 times, just a little stronger. But here’s the real interesting part I think, you can damage ships with it. So lets say you board a ship and kill the crew with your gun, then you pull out your hammer and go bellow deck. It would take I think 2-3 hits to get a tier 1 hole, and then maybe another 2-3 or maybe even 4 to make a tier 2 hole. I don’t think that you would be able to make tier 3 but maybe with enough hits, although I think it would be more balanced if the max was tier 2. I don’t really have any lore for this but lemme know what you think, is it good, bad need a nerf or buff? I hope you like it :D

    For the hand held cannon I think it should only be able to launch blunder bombs and the fire bottles that would Mets changing enough

    Alright, level with me, it’d be SO good if a simple musket was implemented into the game.
    Now, I’m not saying add an entirely new weapon, just give the player the toggleable option to remove/add the scope to an eye of reach maybe even add a stationary box to the ship that you hold a button on to add the scope to the musket, though that may get tedious, so probably not.
    Furthermore, it is confirmed by the sea dog eye of reach’s description that these snipers are, in fact, muskets with spyglasses strapped to them that became popular across the seas, so it’d make sense lore-wise. Plus, when it comes to role playing, having a firing squad of musketeers aiming at an opposing player would be pretty epic, you have to admit.
    Lastly, while it is good to be able to shoot opponents at range with the eye of reach, sometimes, you need to have a peripheral vision, like a pistol, but higher damage with longer reload time.
    In conclusion, it’d be really cool for them to do something like this, and while it might need a lot of weapon descriptions to be rewritten, it’d make the seas feel just that bit more immersive.

    I know it may sound stupid since it’s still not in the game but just an idea, but in the game Disney Infinity The Pirates of The Caribbean Playset you can upgrade your ship in several ways
    1. The Kraken’s Bane: Keeps the Kraken away
    2. The Kraken’s Hammer: Summons the Kraken (Like your Davy Jones)
    3. Calypso’s Rage: Use the storm and the fury of the seas against your enemies
    4 Phase Shift: Curse your ship for a limited time during a battle so that enemies’ cannonballs and anything throwable phases through your ship without damaging it
    5. Speed Burst: The magic of the merfolk grants your ship a speed burst that won’t last long.
    I was thinking that this could be awesome in the game for sure, not an exact copy of course but just some weapons that we could use in Sea of Thieves during battle.
    Idea 2: All these upgrades are free to grab with ofcourse a prize to the magic, whenever you get any of these upgrades the ship could get a limited curse to it while it has the upgrade enabled
    1. Kraken’s Bane & Hammer: Fills your ship slowly with water like it’s the crying chest
    2. Calypso’s Rage: Gives the environment a misty look and therefore a blindness effect
    3. Phase Shift: Slows the ship down intensely
    4. Speed Burst: The ship will anchor down the moment the burst stops.

    I like something like a steam powered rivet gun like the rosie big daddy used in bioshock but its slow requires wood and water to power and takes time to heat up once reloaded but doesn't break.

    I feel they could do this quite easily with the currently tools, like buckets of puke and scolding water are already used in combat, so you should be able allowed to swing your shovel and maybe that gives a dizziness effect, hitting with a tankard would cause a bit of drunkenness when hit with, be able to bash with the Instruments and Spyglass, Fishing Rods could be used to trip, Lanterns smash and set fire, be swing a plank at an enemy which could resulting the plank breaking, the Compass and Pocket Watch are too small but like you should be able to like throw them like a projectile. A risk is you could hit an enemy with a plank which would do damage but also result in the board breaking.

    i would say a 5 shot rifle it has a clip of five with a 1 second shot wait between shots and does 30 damage since you done have to reload between shots

    Being able to duel wield swords would be freaking sick
    You'd get much faster attack speed
    And a stronger block
    But you use 2 weapon slots so you can't use any guns

    I like the bait crate, but i’d suggest something slightly different.
    Maybe instead of being it’s own new thing, players could throw raw meat into the water which would attract sharks. The more meat, the more sharks attracted, and the longer they’ll stick around.
    Every half hour or so the crew should throw 10-25 pieces of raw meat overboard to keep the effect.
    added bonus, you can throw fish at each other. Hilarity ensues.

    These are awesome ideas but I do feel like there should be some other kind of con other than limited uses on these items, except for the flare that makes alot of sense for a one time use thing

    What about combining the ashen winds skull with standard weapons? Giving them an incendiary affect to the next 5 shots? No extra damage but targeted fire strikes or just lighting a player on fire?

    The flare gun could be a standard weapon, like a flintlock. Maybe it should put someone on fire if you hit someone with it. That with an axe and the ashen skull transforms you into pyro from tf2

    Perhaps one could be a hand mortar where you could load in blinder bombs or fire bombs. Also the elephant gun wasn’t created until 1895 but telescopic scopes where also made in the early 1900s so I’ll let it slide. I like the idea of just a really big musket. Also they have tiny cannons at the sea forts and on rowboats so they’ll be good for the broadsider

    Just my idea, but a boarding axe should be lighter than a sword (in use they were) it should do less damage than a sword but can be used to climb ships to stop the bridge camper meta

    I think it would make sense for you to drop the boarding axe after 3 swings and have it play the same panting sound you get after a sword lunge. After putting it down, you would immediately pull out your sword. You’d be able to pick it up again after 30 seconds. Also, it would get stuck in the wood of a ship when you drop it and take about 3 seconds to pull out so you wouldn’t be able to switch back and forth between weapons easily.

    while some of these are too similar to each other or kind of out there, Some of them are very good ideas, and if they were bundled with hit reg fixes and some combat adjustments to both shipvship and pve/pvp, we could have a very fun combat update.

    The axes should be a normal weapon like a cutlass or a pistol, it should be like a hatchet and is a 2 hit kill with infinite durability

    A anchor would be a amazing weapon as both a medium range weapon swinging it at a opponent or it could have the same property's as the skeleton lord arm you described what do you think? Or about magical weapon's.

    the axe should be 40 - 45 damage, do holes in the ship, and be available from the weapon locker, but should have the speed of sword dash.

    I am a gizmo nerd. I love this stuff. 01:26 the hand cannon is a nice idea but that thing is going to be a lot of weight to haul around an d use. I would add more movement and carrying penalties. 02:24 neat idea, I would make a good crosshair rifle scope some kind of magic treasure. Caveat: I fantasized about being "Israel Hand, Flints gunner." I am biased I like the long guns. However, I find SoT a great combat game that requires skill to master (cutlass fighting, hip shooting, etc....) and that skill requires practice. I like shooting skeletons (sneaky bastards). It looks like the tools stuff are nice items/treasure a questing we will go. PS: I am not impressed by the breaks after X uses I would make the recharge/reload/rebuild a side quest.

    I've got an idea for the axe.
    It will not break after 5 uses.
    It would be like the sword but you can throw it instead of sprinting forward and trying to hit something.
    And it would be cool if the Elephant rifle can be a primary weapon.

    When I heard “bait crate” I was happy cuz I thought that he got my idea because I put of a discussion on steam about if there should be bait crates (it was a long time ago tho) where you can buy a crate full of bait, you can buy a crate full of each kind of bait too. So I thought a famous and cool UA-camr had used my idea lol

    I think there should be a plunger attachment for the harpoon so you can harpoon gunpowder kegs and so they don't explode in your face they 2ould have infinite uses and add a new barrel on your ship

    What about a simple musket rifle without a scope, and instead a bayonet?
    Doing similar amounts of damage to the Eye of Reach, but is less accurate due to the offset weight of the bayonet. It would have a reasonably hefty melee attack, but a slow thrust speed, keeping the cutlass as the fast and nimble melee option. One could also make it have a slower reload in comparison to the other guns.
    Another potential idea for a bayonet musket might a sort of bayonet charge, somewhat similar to the sword charge. One would activate the charge by hitting Sprint and the melee key at the same time.

    The shovel, deals less damage and is a bit slower on swing but has a much larger block radius and longer hitstun to compensate, also it flings you on final hit as a "step the fuck off" Type of weapon.

    I don't see the handheld cannon really working for the following reasons: 1. it would be too strong as an armory weapon; 2. you already have a Major League arm with how far you can throw grenades; 3. The Trident of Dark Tides already covers a similar function, if you want a handheld weapon capable of damaging ships you may entertain the option of letting this already existing item do it with a max charge. Same argument with the pirate lord arm, a trident can do that.
    The elephant gun would bring the "Sniper problem" to Sea of Thieves, which is that generally it's not much fun being one-shot at a long distance without the ability to react (even getting one-balled is better, at least you can see and dodge the incoming cannonball and it's not an instant kill on a sloop). Already some people argue the Eye of Reach is too strong, the elephant gun would exacerbate the issue even if you mount a ton of negatives to it. The elephant gun is also anachronistic by a couple centuries whereas in comparison the handheld cannon would at least be fitting with the setting.
    I like the idea of an axe weapon, but not at all what you're suggesting. If it's ever implemented, I would see it as an armory melee alternative to the sword that focuses on vertical movement. Similar if slightly slower TTK with heavier hits and a smaller combos, a less forgiving parrying angle and the lunge is not truly meant for combat, but time a jump right and you can leap twice as high as normal, keep holding your primary attack or do it anytime in mid-air to latch onto ledges at eye level with you and pull yourself up.

    What about a hatchet which would be slower than the sword but more damage however you could also damaged ship masts, anchors and wheels where 2 hits would do 1 point of damage you could maybe even charge the like the sword to throw it but would have to back where landed to reclaim it

    I want a replacement for cannons that are Gatling Guns. Probably for things like the Megalodon or Kraken, definitely not good for ships though.

    These are nice, but a lot of these items should really have some quirks that could be considered drawbacks.
    I think the hand cannon should blast you backwards when firing, to the point where you might get knocked off a ship if you fire it at the wrong angle, and it will send you flying if you try to fire it while in the air.
    The elephant gun I would say should probably be less of a PvP weapon and more of a PvE weapon, intended to deal high damage to the Megalodon and Kraken, but only moderately more damage than the existing guns; we can already take cannonballs to the face and live, and I sincerely doubt that an elephant gun has more stopping power than an honest-to-god cannon.
    These two weapons in particular should be replacements for a player's gun slot, just so one can't offset the drawbacks of carrying a huge firearm by simply dropping it and pulling out a different weapon; this should be something you have to commit to.
    On that note, the boarding axe should be a slower alternative to the cutlass that trades the lunge for a slow two-handed strike that briefly stuns the opponent if they block it, but deals no extra damage. I'd also suggest a dagger or rapier that prioritizes lunge and fast thrusting attacks, but have a narrower hitbox.
    The hookshot is a fine idea for a traversal item, but I would say giving it a long reload time would be preferable to having it break under what would be considered standard operations; if you hook on to a ship moving at sleed and jump off, you're not going to have enough time to hook back on before the ship moves out of range, even if you're swimming toward it.
    Now, this is the big one.
    I feel like the Crate of Weight and the Crate of Bait should be a single item; a sort of booby-trapped crate that applies a disruptive debuff to a ship some time after being brought aboard and left on the ship, with the effects depending on what resources are used to fill it. If loaded with standard cannonballs, it will slow the ship down considerably and make it sink faster. Having boards loaded in it will cause the ship to randomly spring a leak every few minutes. If loaded with fish or any kind of meat, it will attract sharks, a Megalodon, or even a Kraken. Placing skulls or treasure inside will cause it to attract more skeleton ships and cause low level skeletons to occasionally spawn aboard the ship to tip players off that something is actually wrong. If loaded with bananas or other fruit, it will cause little sea monkey NPCs to periodically spawn around the ship and start tampering with things when no one is looking, like lighting and dousing lanterns, firing loaded cannons, adjusting the sails, turning the steering wheel, and so on. These effects will continue until the crate is removed from the ship for a period of time by either tossing it overboard, picking it up for a certain amount of time, or emptying it out, but the crate will spawn locked, and an empty crate may be filled back up and locked by a player, requiring other players to take steps to unlock it and claim the loot inside. This would make finding and opening such crates a tremendous boon, as by necessity they'd have to be loaded with valuable resources and treasure, but they'd also be a terrible liability to bring aboard unless you had somebody constantly carrying them, and you wouldn't know if the crates were trapped until after they'd been aboard for several minutes, at which point you might have already loaded several onto your ship, and all of them might be traps. Heck, it might even be a good way to affect the PvP scene and keep your treasures after being sunk, because an assaulting player might choose to leave a crate rather than take it and having to chance dealing with constant assaults from skeletons or other disruptions, leaving it nearby for its original owners or someone else to come and reclaim it.

    Personaly I would like daggers as a second melee weapon
    It swings quite a bit faster then the sword, but does less damage and has shorter range

    Merriks ship was the Killer Whale not the Wailing Barnacle. Also boarding axes were one handed hand axes used to cut away rigging and rope so why would it be so cumbersome to use?

    puckle guns should be included, ship mounted guns with a ten round cylinder, each round doing 30 dmg, to balance this the cylinders would be rare and it would take 30 secs to reload it after a use, additionally you could buy a puckle gun cylinder for 2500 gold at any merchant and being able to get them reliably from forts and defeating flame heart, there could be a similar amount of bullet drop to the flintlock, but being able to fire at a similar rate to the Gatling gun out of fallout 76
