@sandman9413 well first off, it's not tax free - it's no state tax. It'd be like saying no provincial tax. They pay federally everywhere. Second, they don't get to pay no state tax by living in state with no state incone tax, they pay an average based on all the places they play in the season. So its definitely lower - nowhere near 30% - like 4% tax avoided. Lastly - gotta consider all players are paid in USD. Those living in Canada get to earn in USD and spend in a CAD economy. Bigger benefit than the 4% or so. But, taxes in general lower in the states than in Canada. A 30% increase in cap would be highly unfair advantage.
Utah is going for it and they started with a proven defensive defenceman under contract. If Utah took a swing on Stamkos, kane, Guentzel and Pesce of any other ufa defenceman look out it's gonna be a ride
Toronto doing Toronto things. ie. Dumb things. No shocker here. ~35 year old come season start. What is it with Toronto always going after geriatric players, in an attempt to make them impact players?
So anybody who signs Tanev is dumb now? lol he’s still a solid defenseman. His AAV will be 2-3 per year and he can retire or go to LTIR anytime. But hey if only the GM was as smart as the guy in the UA-cam comments
leafs are making puzzling moves..I personally had no interest in a 34 year old injury prone defenceman...and Im seeing rumours they may be walking away from Liljegren..the guy hasnt even played 300 games yet..wth? My family members are Habs fans...and make fun of me whenever they can...I think they just got more ammo
Heh! Leaf fans, get off the hopium! If you think Old Man Tavev is the answer to your many problems well keep dreaming. Think about it! He's just tired of all the travel and wants to finish his career in his home town. You'll be over paying and Treliving is pulling the wool over your eyes. Wake up!!!!!
@@johnbeaulieu3057 I agree with you , but he has a lot of miles on him. I would not go any longer than a 4 yr deal at $4.25 mill for Tanev. Warren Foegele is a 28-year-old left winger, would look nice in a Leaf Jersey!
The best part about "Leafs Nation" is how short their collective memories appear to be. First, a couple of days ago I see a post about the idea of bringing Kadri back to Toronto. Everyone apparently having forgotten that he TWICE single handedly sabotaged the Leaf's playoff hopes by taking stupid penalties or being suspended, which is why they shipped him out of town to begin with. Apparently he either matured (nice to see finally at age 30) or Colorado told him that if he wanted to play, he had to keep his nose clean. And here we are now everyone is talking about adding two defensemen, particularly if they happen to shoot left handed. Has everyone forgotten that in this year's playoff exit, they scored 2 goals or less in 6 of the 7 games???
What in the world are you talking about, if you’ve been hanging onto what the Leafs fans have been saying then you would know they’ve been calling for a better blue line for the past 8 years lol
The reason they HAVE to do this such bs dregs. Leafs shouldn't do this (money wise) especially tanev is the n of t solution to this teams problem. Omg Leafs are in on everything wow such reporting! 🙄
The max he can sign for is 7 years due to the CBA. He doesn’t qualify for a 35+ deal where a retirement would keep his AAV on the cap. Basically, they can give him a long term front loaded deal to drop the cap hit and let him finish it on LTIR. Or he can retire and it disappears. 7 years is scary enough though. .
@@Khalistan159 Oh please..... weaked by having to get past the previous two Stanley Cup winners in the first two rounds while the Oilers practically had a cakewalk to the conference final......
This is insane , 6 or 7 years , you gotta be joking
Half of those years will be spent on a special island 😅
That's the only way they can compete with teams that can offer tax free lifestyle. Teams like torshould have 130% cap
@@sandman9413 i know , i hate that and hope the league makes it fair at some point

@@Dx-so7jmnah. Plenty of teams do this so it is fair.
If its more then 3 years or 5M we are in trouble lol.
You guys are nuts, its the leafs, 11.5M for 7 years with a NMC, they dont need a full lineup Nick Robertson will save em.

Let's go Utah Uhaul 🚚 going to be fun ride making moves pun intended 😜
The Leafs issue is they CAN'T SCORE IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!!!! DEAL WITH THAT
Yea uh the blueline was an issue too.
A championship team only needs to score 2 goals to win in the playoffs.
UTAH has room is active , BUF has room and will be looking plus TBL now , this is going to go nuts for top UFA forwards!
You think Utah going to get a big player?
Very exciting days as free agent frenzy heats up!
🔥🌋
it's not often a team can sign an elite defensive D. Exactly what the Leafs need.

@c_telking4433 i doubt his AAV is 2-3mil. More likely >4 for 6 yrs
Dumb comment.
It ain't looking good, bruv. At least a 5 year deal, and a trip to Robidas island on the back end.
Brent Burns is 38, Tanev has a lot left in the tank

How old is tanev 🤔 7-8 years
🤷♂️
Tanev won't even be in the league by 2028...this is a garbage move by a garbage organization.
Trade Marner
Fire Shanahan 🔥
lol so he can retire then. The longer the contract the lower the AAV 😂
Tampa has a big fish: Stamkos
My question is why did they pass up on Stian Solberg?
Trust Wes dude. This is the guy who found Cowan like 30 picks in. He found knies. He's a damn good scout.
Apparently what we got is one of the highest polled OHL Ds by OHL coaches. He's the top shot blocker. And he's mean.
Take a big swing and trade for Aaron ekblad, send florida rielly Robertson and a prospect or pick if need be
The four horsemen 😁🇨🇦✔
Again leafs getting someone who is almost out of their prime, he ll be ok for 2 -3 years and then they gonna pay him as on injured reserve.
I think leafs will give Tanev a 5.5m or 6m for maybe 5 or 8 years hope not 8 . But 5 I am cool with.
If he’s a number 4 for two years and then bottem pair for a year and a 7th in year 4 and useless in year 5, is that ok? 3 year window and then boned?
He could always LTIR down the road he's under the 35 year old cutoff.
