I feel NGK is narrating the story, so he doesn't open up about the affair. The plan to kill his parents was also not shown for the same reason. It's like the Ko villain justifying the process.

This movie is about a CM interview. Maybe he have told the true story OR he want to portray the best by hiding all the ugly truth. some criticize this movie look like patch by patch and they said this is due to re shooting. but selva sir purposely did it to let us judge by ourselves. if u see surya from a protagonist angle then he will be the hero of this movie who lost and sacrificed alot. if u see surya from an antagonist angle then he will be the selfish super villain of this movie.
1. bala singh said surya should enter politic ( surya have no interest OR he start to realized - can relate with thee pori in background )
2. damaged agriculture land ( cause by others OR he might did that to enter politic with people support )
3. sai pallavi suspect ( she is a santhegam peyi OR she guessed it correctly )
4. no romantic dialogue or physically close scene with rakul preet ( no affair OR he might in relationship with rakul to get advices, his party underground secrets, the 3 main leaders next plan or even to get corporate companies support)
5. Surya asked bala singh to call anna ( mass scene OR true self of evil Surya )
6. surya asked his family to see him for the last time ( because he know something bad might happen to him OR he want to see them for the last time because he alrdy plan to murder them to get people anuthabam vote )
7. Surya take his wife to paarattu vila ( he want sai pallavi to witness the parattu vila OR he might purposely take her by bicycle becz he alrdy plan to get beaten up and give speech in deadly wounded way )
8. Fainted, show hand with full blood and give speech while crying ( really an emotional scene OR totally drama to cheat and make the audiences angry and get support through centiment )
Those who saying this is not a SELVA film. DEI this is PAKKA UPGRADED SELVA MOVIE. A MASTERPIECE.
As you say it has to be either a true story or he wanted to hide the bad side of his! But the movie portrays him as a good man and at the same time there are scenes like that medai pechu practice session that tells us he is bad I mean he has changed! So why having both at a time!? And it's also not like you can have your own interpretation each and every time! Not asking to spoon feed but then have references conveying them tbh the second half had the content but was badly delivered

@@Vignesh_M_S_ In Virumandi, when pasupathy narrated he portray kamal as villain. when kamal narrated the same scene from his point of view, we got totally opposite idea on what have actually happened. Same in Mankatha, when arjun explain in last 10 minutes we got totally opposite idea on how criminal arjun was from beginning of the movie. In NGK if u wanna c from positive side then dont think much, go with the flow by treating this as a normal commercial film. If wanna c from negative side the background lighting, editing pattern and the background elements will guide u. Same scenes but gives 2 totally different perspective. There is no another character to narrate from different point of view like in virumandi n mankatha. This could be the problem OR could be the beauty of this film. 😉

Very good explanation sir, but I have one theory on what you said about NGK's Parents. if you see the dialogue Suriya speaks, he says "Nalla paathuko amma, inime ippadi paaka mudiyaadhu", he didn't say "inneme paaka mudiyaadhu". "Ippadi" may mean face to face. They can view only from TV after he becomes CM.
If he had known that he would be attacked, NGK would have come prepared for the battle. Actually he did, he placed the bomb in the caravaan, that means he knew he will be attacked, If in case NGK dies in the fight in market the whole plan would be waste, he knows he is not a super hero(he controls his anger when the politician curses at him in the basketball court). That means the fight in market must be a setup, and killing of their parents as well(i think they were placed it witness protection kind of thing).
Also NGK's father reaction says he knows something going to happen, may be i am misreading. He might use military influance to hide in secret place.
Another hint the market fight is a setup is that the attackers just scratched him the whole time, they could have stabbed him while he was not even knowing they were there. Just a theory. This is a half baked movie, if Selva explains the missing scenes that will resolve all the confusions.

I think when he was just sitting there at home before the public meeting, he was not " just sitting", but was staring at the family photos to relive the memories one last time.
Irrespective of whether the film was good or bad, I love the fact that Selva always makes people talk and decipher his movies. This is very rare in Tamil cinema, where we think or talk about a film after the golden 3 day release window. Super Deluxe and NGK - two movies of this year which made us do so.
I think Sai Pallavi's character is simple enough. She's 100% dedicated to her husband until the point he's unfaithful, even then she kind of learns to put up with her life but exerts her disappointments through the ranting. I thought her performance was brilliant! Especially the perfume scene

Sai pallavi character was framed nicely .A girl having physiological eccentric behaviour kind of bipolar going with two extends. But people didn't recognised the character or the character should have more instese like in aarohanam film.

I think so many are talking about content and comprise but I don't think content is less or he comprised there is so much told in the film and there is fabulous second half for me actually most of the scenes in second half have to be revisted to analyse what he try to say
I strongly condemn , A film's flow must make you glue to it ,You can't just force yourself by saying yes there is something it's a Selva's film ..The thing dint happen in pudupettai where the scene next had a potential meaning to the scene before and a room to get into the kokki kumaru headspace and explore his grey side .. but here its completely missing...You just can't keep revisiting searching and searching and when the fllow lacks #Myopinion

I think the fact that NGK's character was all about selfish adaptation for a hidden growth which has a lot of layers missed by the audience.
It's just my opinion.
Why did you miss such deep interpretations in your first review?
If you read his blog, he mentioned all the bits but didn't think they were fleshed out well enough.
If any of the critics hardly understood the hidden layers means then is that their mistake or the failure of the director.....
Apart from the directors extraordinary writing and making a movie should communicate with the people who watch it..... Even 1% of the people didn't understand the layers of the movie on the first day..... If it was just the common audience only also we could have said ok.... But the critics, who decode most of the movies of this type were also confused.... And that's definitely the mistake of the maker

Are we missing something which is staring at our face? - I am talking about the TITLE CARD. One of the prominent points of the discussion is that there are too many loose ends in the film which makes it difficult to come to the conclusion on several sub plots. Correct me if I am wrong, this is again a speculation - the problem of loose ends. The title card is NGK written in black and each of the alphabets turn to Red. Is the film shown in the title card itself, that it is the story of a good man becoming bad? Or again are we reading too much into it?

Technically the entire film is a live tv interview in which NGK is telling the people about his journey to the top. Do you think this is the reason why a lot of plot points were introduced and then left unexplored in this film? Just because he wouldn't be able to reveal those things on tv and also do you think that could be the reason why they never openly anywhere in the film show that he's kind of turned into this evil guy?
Selvaraghavan in a recent interview said that sometimes you have to do bad to do good later on to the people and that has cleared my doubts about Surya character and regarding the song placement he said it was commercial element he tried that out because I was never done like that before surprise element the bottom line is he wants us fans to revisit the movie and understand hidden secrets of the movie he says that movie should not be seen just as a movie

Actually NGK killed his friend with his own hands but as he narrating his story with media he lied that he killed himself.
While watching the movie,
I was so confused at ngk frnd's death scene.I didn't understand why the hell he want to kill himself leaving his wife, daughter and good llfe for a friend whom he hasn't met for years.The dialogues he says just before he dies
"Take care of my daughter and family"
But at the end of the movie,
This is what i understood
As he is narrating his story to media inorder to gain more sympathy or make himself look like a good person in people's view
He changed lot of things in his story,
May be that's not what actually happened.
Its NGK who killed his friend to gain popularity at that time because vanathi says to NGK that he doesn't have popularity to get what he wants.
So he actually killed his friend and just while killing him he might have said
"please don't kill me,I have a family to lookafter and young daughter who is waiting for me at home"
But ngk kills him anyway.
After that he adopts or looksafter his friends family as seen in newspaper to gain more sympathy or popularity.
As he narrates the story to media,
He changes his friend's last words and the way he died to his use.
Please watch kammara sambhavam malayalam movie 😁 it's a different movie but since you are interested in observation you will understand the reason behind the recommendation

@Ashwinachu01 the narrative is not incomplete it is the way it is...1.the corporete owners meeting - ngk next move after he attains popularity is to get the MLA post, so he asked rakul preet to set a meeting but before that his party decided to assalt him by giving him a honour meet, thats why he was upset sitting in the sofa the next seen. 2. the conversation of NGK with his father- rakul preet asks for more loop holes in the ruling party to ngk, so he starts collecting them with giri and thinks of getting some more inshights with his father since he knows how to get insights from cbi about the ruling party. 3. Finally, cm talk - at this moment the ng was in a plan to get popularity so he wants the ruling party support to do that, by giving the infomration he knows to the cm he will ask a small favour from the cm to lathi charge him when the camera focuses in the kesavamoorty protest.

This episode is more like cover drive for your review . You didn't spoke about these interpretations in review rather said selvaraghavan uniqueness was missing. Also said selva had respect for his uniqueness but this movie was narrated with obvious scenes and nothing was going, which was absolutely wrong. Please accept that you didn't get the movie at your first encounter and hold your respect
I think u r a little bit biased here. I'm pretty sure that if this movie came from some other director most critics would be more harsh towards it. If u can't figure out who the protagonist is and what he wants then the film is almost irredeemable. Just because it came from selvaragavan people think there is more to it. Is this movie even worth so much time and energy? This movie was boring and it didn't make any impact. Why two ladies.. what is the need to bring in an affair.. i thought selva just wanted to merge his personal story on that or what. Its a wasted movie and of time. It could have been more crispier to have a look into political career of the man.

Light scheme I think they should have complemented the story line liked u said rather than sumthing that we had to go back and watch...like in article 15 the village and story is shown in grim and old world lighting and it complements the whole story as this place is still stuck in pre independence era where as when shows his girlfriend back in Delhi they show in natural colour scheme...

I am little bit confused with ending. Is it suriya who planned to kill his parents. And suddenly acted Infront of audiance that's his parents dead. If not villains killed his parents. If villains did that, what's need to react Infront of audiance and it will be like 1990's old format films but not like selva raaghavan film.

I think the scene where his friend asks Surya to stab him might be the reason for a complete changeover in Suryas psyche. At the start we can see that Surya is a do gooder person who doesnt always associate his actions with the rewards. But after what happened we can see Surya is bamboozled with what happened just before the police took him up. Another interesting arc is that when the leader of opponent party comes to see Surya, as a man with common goal, would have behaved in a subtle enslaved frame but instead he could not care more as we can see he just ignored whatever that leader has to say. The pain is a complicated feeling and we can see clearly in contrast to the first off, we can see more eccentricity in Surya in second half. He would have had more reverberations running inside his mind, a kind of split selves where one says i m terrified of this, the other says no see the benefit...if things are going to get stale anyways, why shouldnt i orchestrate for the greater good. The resultant might have impacted Surya to use means to meet his end goals realized and that is evident for whatever the slow degradation that is mentioned about the Suryas char.
I dont agree with bharadwaj sir that he doesnt have a single goal. If you see his end goal right after the first half is that more and more power as a relatively shorter goal might kill the grandeur process whereas the bigger goal might not fit into his picture yet, his goal would have been POWER, POWER and POWER alone. The more, the merrier as his single goal as he understands that this is a uncertain place where I cant eye for a single prize. Instead I will attack from all fronts and whatever I get, I am confident that I will get in multitudes and from there I can connect...

Good directors will not change their way in which they are known to be good at it but it's our expectations doesn't suit their way on different periods. Btw am a fan of mani sir & Selva and I love the way mani sir portray their characters & dialogues uniquely in all of his films like say ok kanmani but in kaatru veliyidai, Karthi's (Saettu) family casting & the dialogues were ridiculous which made the scenes look so odd that we couldn't relate with.. And the jailbreak scene was funny as hell. Yet I liked karthi & aditi portions & the convo between them. Took me back to see a Selva film with such similarities (the family part). I liked NGK though it had it's flaws like Nizhalgal ravi's stupid phone call build up. Didn't show a single person of that 500 youth. Scenes of public's chaos on the street were pathetic. Ponvannan's unfit role as a politician. Azhagam perumal would've nailed that char. Vela Ramamoorthy was sitting ducks the entire film like OPS just ogling & eating mixture. And that unwanted love duet with Rakul was a huge turnoff. It was soo unlikely of any selva's previous work. Regardless, Ilavarasan, Bala singh & Surya's performances were extraordinary especially his political speech on stage was quite hard hitting. Regarding Mani sir I still find his films gratifying. Ccv was really good despite the mixed reviews.

You're right sir the movie had lot of confusing moments despite it not being a bad one. Sadly it's disappointing.
But BR sir why does he cry to her when he asks her support to join politics when his mom doesn't approve. Is that love? I found that scene over the top, for a man to cry in that situation. Was it necessary? As much as I loved 7G. PPettai, and oh yeah, Mayakkam Yenna, I couldnt relate to this movie and had to walk out after his first interaction with Vanathi.... @@sanst5 Interesting explanation Sandhya. It s just that I couldn't relate to the character as it did not have a clear line ... For eg. Mayakkam Enna, I could relate to the part where he usurps his friend's girl. It happens, we know it. Then he loses enthusiasm and just goes down a morosely depressing path... I was dying to pull him out of that dark path. Such was my connection with that character. I couldn't relate to NGK that way!!! I felt like some dots were missing in between.

People are asking the wrong questions
I don’t call it an “individual’s perception” when it comes surya killing his parents, or about the affair, or the shades of NGK.
There are no enough scenes or substances or visuals to back it up.
One can say the politician sent goons to kill his parents as the scene before that tells shows that “thalai vaasal Vijay says poruppa! Kadaisi aaayuthum onnnunirukku” (wait! “Take a look at it” can be interpreted in many ways, if you see it with the previous scene then it’s a different meaning. But that’s fine. Looks like the scenes may be edited in between.
I think you seconded the notion of getting perplexed in that exaggeration of bathroom cleaning scene. It can just be a scene rather making it more cinematic in other words making it a caricature version of a scene.
More importantly as a creator i feel my creation should speak rather words. That’s why i see that scenes left uncompleted
NGK is half baked film for sure the intent was right but the execution is poor .
