Airplane delivering tv ? Now I know what set of people didn't like the movie. Honestly I don't care for them anymore from now, when they can't even understand where the TV came from. Kanchana 3 may be the movies for these guys.
An in depth analysis of the metaphors and callbacks in the movie(spoiler alert) my favorite part of this movie is minute details in it 1) when the "body" mattress falls of the balcony and the desi instrumental version of star wars theme plays and the scene is edited in a way to resemble the initial scroll that we see in star wars 2) when ghaji is in the tv shop for the first time as he's watching a song playing we see that a feature on aliens is playing in the second t.v down below foreshadowing his choice & fate 3) ghaji wears a shirt which has a half cat on it's front & the other half on it's back. i think it's symbolic of schrodingers cat & the quantum mechanics concept of "superposition" especially when the alien creates or pulls out another ghaji from the existing ghaji. 3) berlin says that heart is like a monkey and he gets killed by a t.v whose company's name is "flying monkey" 4) right before shilpa comes back home there is a shot of army of ants marching up & down the door frame with people in the background conversing and as soon as raaskutti mentions his father a large & a different ant enters the frame signalling how the expected guest will be different from others 5) berlin saves a worm in the station from being squashed & in the next scene he's cursed by shilpa and the whole shot plays out like shilpa is trying to squash berlin with her hand, which shows that berlin is the worm hence his unnatural kindness to the worm in the previous scene. The obvious reference to superbad isn't even worth mentioning.
When the teens go in to the video shop they ask for the cd's of super bad which in it self was a film about horny teenagers shenanigans and so is super deluxe (atleast a part of it), so it's the director being self aware and winking at us.

In the scene where Shilpa searches for her kid in the beeda shop, there is a painting which reads "MAGIC EVENT". The next second it changes to "REAL LIFE MAGIC EVENT".!!!!!!! The director just teased us..LOL
Brilliant Manjula! Actually Gaaju and the alien girl can be finally seen talking over the terrace.. where the building name is written as "Super Deluxe".
There are too many things to be watched carefully.. Like every frame in the movie has either blue/red references..And importantly the underwear reference of 8 is shown twice.. Once my Samantha and other one by the boy who is in the restroom during the first scene.
And the scene where Myskin and Shilpa have a conversation in the subway there is a flickering light.. Once he tries to understand the real meaning of God the light steadily glows. Don't know whether it was planned this way.
Proof that Shilpa and other stories are not happening in same day. You can find vaembu's ex-lover at a pawn shop I think so, when Shilpa was searching for her son at that rugged place
Full Throttle Shilpa story happens the before day .....if you keenly watch the starting scene of Arpudham(Myskin )...Myskin refuses to pray for other because of the doubt....actually the doubt was initiated by shilpa in the subway....Myskin describes dat subway scenario to his assistant which happened as before day....
@@aravindr8544 I agree it's good. But if we put together everything that story feels a bit off. Like the one where they think of cutting the body when others are around. Then throwing the body without them realizing it. It's kinda weak compared to the way tk plays the vj introduction. See the tension in that scene compared to the tension created when they have a corpse lying around. Also some of the scenes with fahad acting as drunkard and they both talking about the things don't like about each other is not something i expected in a movie of this caliber. Having said that rest of the movie is a roller coaster ride

I’m really passionate about films and this movie just gave me a high no other film did in recent times. I noticed so many references in the movie and I think the director did not put everything deliberately, I think (I may be wrong) that this is simply his style of film making where he leaves no stone unturned and delivers his best in achieving some sort of closure and justification for the plot and storyline. In most of his interviews when asked ‘What should audience expect from this movie’, he answered by just saying go with an open mind. I think that answers everything and the same can be said of people who did not like certain scenes in the movie or the entire movie itself, that they are just not open minded and accepting of certain things themselves. This is very normal and even I really had to question myself if I’m open minded enough about certain things. This movie will have so many interpretations and understanding, it shows that the director has done a fantastic job in placing things in a certain ‘What do you think?’ manner. Amazing!! Thiagarajan Kumararaja is hands down a brilliant film maker who is not here to satisfy anybody. Art is a form of expression and Kumararaja is an artist!!
It can't be the hat. In Prestige they try to clone the hat first. But they didn't know where the cloned hat has gone and think the cloning machine is not working. Until they find all hats somewhere outside. In Super Deluxe movie the Alien touches only the boy to clone it not the plastic covers. I guess someone should interview the director now and ask him all the questions 😀

Berlins character felt like a representation of god or karma in the traditional sense. He is the most powerful character in the movie, he asks for something (a sacrifice) to give people what they want. As the concept of god is killed in the movie, berlin literally dies.
Super Deluxe is one awesome movie in terms of making, effective use of bgm and non linear narrative style but yet not much confusing. It had great acting performances of all of the lead cast. After digesting Super Deluxe for few days, here comes the analysis from me 🙂 It contains the spoilers and if you haven't watched the movie and don't want to know the story.. DON'T READ BEYOND THIS. --- Still if you want to -- go ahead 😎 We will see how the different plots are inter connected.. Day 1: Plot 1: Rasukutty is 7yr old, he and his mom eagerly waiting to receive dad of Rasukutty known as Manikam, who ran away 7 yrs ago. When Manikam arrived they are all shocked seeing his gender changed and now known as Shilpa. At some point in story, Rasukutty is lost. While searching him, Shilpa gets humiliated by SI Berlin and she curses Berlin. Rasukutty comes back home on his own and telling Shilpa that .. Rasukutty and mom didn't care about, what gender he is in now. So asking to stay back with them and family is United. Day 2: Plot 1: Vaembu's ex boy friend died in her home after "meeting" her (it's understood from title card convo that, he might consumed poison due to financial issues before coming to meet Vaembu) She inform her husband Mukil about death of her ex and confess her mistake. Angry Mukhil wants divorce but had to cover up the death. So Both then try to cover up the death and plan to dispose body. They were being captured by SI Berlin, he threatening the couple about this "ugly murder" to be exposed and asking for a price to not revealing it. Plot 2: Group of 5 teen boys planning to watch "Mallu uncut" in a friend home, and unfortunately seeing one of the friend's mom acted in the movie. Angered boy breaking the TV and hating her mom then rushing home to kill her with screw driver. Plot 2 splits here: Plot 2a The teen boy who owns the TV afraid of his dad will return and kill him for broken TV. So he decided to buy a new TV before his dad return home. He along with other 2 friends start exploring the options of earning quick money and making the funny plot. Finally they were able to get money from alien girl and throw away the old TV. Plot 2b: Angry boy who was planning to kill her mom, unfortunately slipped and gets the screw driver in his stomach and losing blood. Mom of the boy known as Leela shocked and taking her son to hospital. She is begging everyone around to provide money but no one helps. Plot 3: Arpudham - a tsunami survivor become a priest, after he was survived by catch holding a Jesus statue. He believing the god so much to the level that, he thinks God can heal anything. Let's see the plot inter-connection: Link 1: Leela and Arpudham It was then revealed that Leela and Arpudham are married and their son is needed help in hospital Link 2: Arpudham and Shilpa Arpudham gets confused by the fact that, he was saved by the Statue in tsunami. So he becomes the devotee of God and started healing people in the name of God. He meets Shilpa while she is in search of her kid and shilpa ask him confession about her mistake of kidnapping the kids while she is in Mumbai. During the convo it's revealed that, she also a survivor of Tsunami and saved by the same statue Arpudham have it now. While she walks away, she is telling that "adhu verum kallu dhan", this clears the confusion of Arpudham. On day 2, when Arpudham in need of money he speaks to statue (??!) for help, when the voice is Shilpa overlap and tell him that, it's just a stone. He breaks the statue and finding diamond stone in the statue. Link 3: The couple and the Teen boys As we already read that, SI Berlin threatening the couple and asking for Veambu to do "favour" for him. Helpless Vaembu and Mukhil looking for something to happen to save them. Suddenly the Old TV boys did throw, fell on SI Berlin and he die. _____ Saravanan !!
I did . Also there was an obituary poster of Gajapathi and Gajendran in the film . It appears in the scene at the start of the film when the boy in anger runs to kill Ramya Krishnan .

This is recurring theme/prop in the movie .. it is present in the first look poster, the car and it comes again in the climax movie, which is based on key to life .. the theatre that comes in the climax also has walls with holes in the pattern of a keyhole ..
I felt the reason there were so many covers could be because the alien was probably cloning something inside the the cover, like cash or something valuable for easy survival and so there are so many similar cover. Fact that all those covers rose together can be because there are same cells/molecules connected to each other as they are clones 🤔
Macha just before the three guys get inside settu house, there is a dialogue where one among the three guys will tell that the setu came to the place with few rupees, now he has grown rich (not the accurate lines but something like this) and supposedly the alien is settu's friend. Which states the alien helped settu by cloning or duplicating the money he had, which resulted in multiple plastic covers inside the house.
So here it goes, 1. "Super deluxe" as many pointed out is the ice cream company's name. It's shown at various points in the climax. 2. There are many colors used. Green, Blue, Orange and other colours which can be referred with the director's favorite movie 'Star Wars' ( Lightsaber colours) 3. Stars wars theme music is used with Mathalam and Nadeswaram! ( when the cot falls down at Vaembu's flat) 4. Star wars again when Gajji says 'May you be with the force' to newly cloned Gajji 5. When the boys sit down to watch the movie, that one guy asks to pause for a second and tells how great it would be if he becomes a porn star. At the climax the same guy demeans Leela by calling his friend as the son of a whore. 6. Actually there is a mythological reference with respect to Shilpa. I saw few photo frames hanging and the scene where she is trying to pull the lathi from Berlin. It some what reminds me of some Indian mythological stuff. Shilpa and four constables holding her and all against Berlin. Similarly Berlin comes in veshti sattai and garlands Shilpa at the first meeting, like some wedding. Yedho thonuchu sonnen.
Make a separate video on the art work of the film ... The posters (about movies and the singamperumal kanneer anjali everywhere and the keys everywhere) The paintings of the houses ( a blue and white, almost like a sea for mysskin's place.. literally like he's still stuck in the tsunami) The scribblings on the wall (real life magic event and phone numbers .. which are indicating the advertising of the sex workers in public toilets n stuff).. These are just my small examples there's a plenty more in art direction in this movie.
The name of vijaysethupathi's character before he goes to bombay was "manickam" and then he transforms into "Shilpa". so the name has any meaning like "manickam" transforms into "Baasha" ?????????????

The whole movie is interesting. I want to tell some scenes which was exciting. 1. The alien cue was given twice in the movie. In the TV, you can see an alien space shuttle flying. Then, in the background, you can hear voices taking about aliens in the TV. 2. The background voices are one of the main aspect of the movie. For example., when Ramasamy blabbers how Arputham character has helped him to walk(talk as first time ), in the background Ramya Krishnan character says 'olaradha' which is again the exact reaction of audience. 3. In the near climax there're two continuous shots where one door closes and the other door opens - again this is the philosophy of life, 'oru kathavu moodina innoru kathavu thirakum' It's just my assumption!
Did anyone else notice "real life magic show" written on the walls whenever the main character finds something. It was seen when vjs lost raasukutti, when the boy found out about Leela and when when Sam tries to get rid of the bed

In this movie *Super deluxe* is Ice-cream brand (in theatre you can see "life is super deluxe" and also"Kadaisy thuli varai anandam") finally Raasakuty, 3boys and boy in hospital having ice-cream - *Thiagarajan Brilliance*
*Super Deluxe* A plot inside which there are 4 sub plots and all these plots has different story line and different genre though it's within the main plot all the more nonlinear story telling adds a vibrant hook to the film... I need to write a separate write up to talk about the director Thiagarajan Kumararaja for his brilliance in the craft and the way he staged the film.. let's discuss about individual performance first. The very first frame a black screen and title card and you are already in to the Crux of the first plot even before the characters are introduced.. That brilliant is the directorial skill and story telling and screenplay writing. Samantha as vembu- Sexual feeling can come to anyone upon anyone and at anytime... Her simple dialogue reveals all that.. she has done a very cheeky role in a fantastic way.. life is all about the space you give and space you get to be you is the thread of her character which she holds it till last frame of the film.. FAHAD as Mugil - A Subtle character who doesn't over react even though he sees a dead body is what he is made of.. his screen presence is tidy though less scope for acting.. I felt there is a separate scene which is added just to portray his skills which was very obvious as we already know his abilities... Dead body - after magalir mattum (Nagesh) a full length dead body character who just steals the show a well done job.. Gaaji - A cool hero minded Character well portrayed by this man... His dialogue delivery has a unique punch and it just steals the show... Thuyavan - an ordinary specs guy who has nothing but friends and his presence on screen is equally great.. Mutta bonda - this man is soooper on screen he just gives u a comical relief and does it so well.. Soori - An angry boy who could not digest someone on screen runs with a weapon and that run ends up in a different plot.. well executed stuff.. Mohan - a runner boy who runs through out the movie and engages us with his pace.. Ramya Krishnan as Leela- she just transforms from Sivagami Devi in bahubali to an actor of a porn movie and a typical mother who is worried about her child and inabilities of hubby.. just mind blowing performance inside hospital shows her experience.. Her versatility is well utilized... Myskin as Dhanasekar (a) Arputham - A well written character and a well maintained acting skills throughout.. he steals the show just by his dialogue delivery skills.. Ramasamy - His harmonica and his naan satchi dialogue is extremely well crafted and used whenever required .. he does his role well.. Mirnalini as alien - she just did her bit in explaining the oneness in everything and the duality in everything very well.. infact that's the thread of the movie too.. Gayathri as Pooja - does a family based mother who is waiting for her hubby to come back after he left them for 7.5yrs as tidy as possible.. her tear filled eyes are best utilized.. The moment she accepts her husband as what he is, is the kick of her character and she does a seemlessly neat job... Master Ashwanth as Rasukutty - his serial experience has helped him to do this important and meaty role so beautifully... He just adds so much value to the entire sub plot.. An award on the way baby.. Get ready.. Director guaged his skills very well and wrote this... Vijay Sethupathy as Manickam & Shilpa - he just tones down his voice and tuned up his performance as Shilpa... In scenes like police station fight with Baks and underground scene with myskin he just rules it... Bhagavathy perumal as Berlin - an irritating police officer does his best to irritate us so that we feel like killing him... Well portrayed character of his lifetime.. There are few characters more who grabs our attention and steals the show like auto driver, grandpa, grandma, aeroplane, TV, black cover, Ilayaraja songs as RR, who just did their roles so efficiently.. Nirav Shah and p s vinod have just given u a visual treat without disturbing our eyes and vision and without irritating with lights and played a beautiful script with colours, tone and pallette..with Rgb as the colour tone R they trying to tell that they are showing us the basics of everything? ... kudos to both.. Art department at it's best starting from costumes to postures to narrow lanes and congested roads to a manless level crossing to a old company set up and those black covers... U guys marked ur presence very well... Editor Sathyaraj cannot cut this film better and serve it to us the most complicated script with a simple narration.. amazing work.. Yuvan Shankar Raja - U just played with your job man... U played single key for long time and created that irritation in the scene.. u played a jingle to ease out the pain.. u played star war music in nadaswaram and nailed it in one scene ... U r just amazing man... One of your best works. Sound design - I wish I could get a audio track of the entire film to hear it and enjoy . It's so amazing... Loved it . Cat sound, atmospheric sound, layers of sound mixing... pppaaaa... Will watch it again only for you Arun Seenu Duo.. TKR - you are just a monster in film making.. you gave ur work to talk about you for next ten yrs and by that time u will prepare for another movie.. Super deluxe - Nyayam vere Nadamura vere... Naan Saatchi... 🙋🏽♂
Alien scene was hinted at already in the movie before it happened ... i was literally waiting for it to happen while watching it. 1) Documentary on alien life on Vaembu's tv 2) Aliens movie poster appeared on a wall. Ideally should have been a random movie poster in recent times but an 80s sci-fi film poster was specifically chosen. I'd have overlooked these observations usually, but given its a TKR film, I suspected that there must be more to these hints and expected an alien scene later in the film in some form and it did happen. Felt good. Such a fun experience watching this film and all the more happy that its a tamizh film.
The plane also flies over when Shilpa and raasukkutty are going to the school. So is there a time lapse in the film because Berlin comes into Shilpa's story after that also when she thinks her boy is lost.
This AskBR is brilliant. I guess there is a link between Gangsters poisoning experiment and Vembu's Ex. Lover death (may be due to positioning) and Berlin gets clue from gangster and follows their Jeep. This movie needs multiple watch
Jackie shroffs death poster in this movie reminds me of red apples cigarettes and big kahuna burger which comes in pulp fiction as well as kill bill etc
In arayana kaandam you can see the key hanging in the same spot on the sampath car may be thats something the director used to relate supper deluxe with arayana kaandam
When Shilpa is in school with his son, he will tell that God has designed him with a wrong body. Within few seconds, we can see a quote from Thirukural on school board, 'Theyvaththaan Aakaa Theninum Muyarsidhan Meyvaruththak Kooli Tharum'.
The black bag to me was very philosophical like saying vazhve poiyada verum katraidaitha paiyada, the bag airs up when cell is being divided into two when the alien creates it, then it goes down by saying now the airs into humans. That’s what I felt, maybe it’s wrong maybe it’s right.
SO tkr 's super deluxe and its world is basically .. based on Murphy's law. As it is considered chaos .. also i feel it has a very good connection with magnolia
When the alien keep her hand on his head, I think they both travel to another parallel universe, another universe where there is a crazy gravity or a universe where the location of the plastic bag is just different. She takes the gaaji from that universe and bring him to this universe.
I have never seen BR sir have so many moments where he goes “I haven’t figured that out yet”, “I’m finding it hard explaining this”, that according to me is the success of this movie and what TKR wanted to do with the movie. He wanted to create something so bizarre and macrocosmic that it might never be possible to completely make sense of what he’s done. Frankly, this was one of the best videos and that is primarily because the movie is out of the world.
Vaembu-mughil is written by nalan, I guess.cordened godown climax,with funny twist TV falling. Leela-arpudham by myshkin,since the revelation of Tsunami happens in a Subway:central character in myshkin movies
There was magic event written on the walls right before any turning point in the movie. Before Shilpa loses her kid, before Thuyavan goes to warn the guy about poisoned tea etc
Like the movie that cannot be placed in a particular genre, I feel U1 music also suffers the same. The purple patch of his BGM score should definitely be the scene when Shilpa’s first encounter with Berlin at the police station takes place. The music in that sequence is really blood curdling and sets the tone for the progression of the scene. It is an amazing piece. Though the same score though a watered down version appears whenever Berlin is there, the score during Shilpa’s first encounter reached its zenith. I would love to know the instruments used. I would definitely love to have that piece as my caller tune 🤪😬. So many ppl are talking about all the great performances of its lead characters. But for me the standout performance is Bagavathi Perumal as Berlin. Stunning to say the least. His acting has matched the characterisation. (Proved T S Eliot wrong 🤪) All others are miles behind him.
Samantha will say to fahad that berlin came for passport verification and she will also say avan parvaiye sari ila nu.so berlin folloewed them in order to trap them
The shot where the fours kids discusses who gets to go buy the CD on the street was framed by placing them in between the window grills. It kinda gives a feel like they are gonna get trapped later similar to the frame. The ice cream vehicle that passes by when samantha waits outside the car while fahad whines inside the car, It has Super deluxe written on it.
But I think the plastic bags are the byproducts of cloning the money, because initially we were shown that her boyfriend(dead later) was throwing down some bags, everytime they clone a bag of money they put them in a single bag and multiplies it again.
Shilpas curse is actually a great reverse what Berlin says,"en pondaati paththini! Ava saabathukae onum aagala. Iva sonna ena aagum!" But now he dies trying to bed vaembu who societally is not a paththini! #AskBR

When the boys enter the setu house for the 2nd time, There is background news or documentry speaking about diamonds in a statue which lost in a sea during the shipment. Got to watch 2nd time to understand details, really a lot of details.
I might be stretching a bit but the number 8 is used. One part I remember is Samantha expressing disgust against Fahaad since he rolls his underwear like an "8" and hangs on the door. 8 symbolically conveys duality and infinity. Speaks about point of views and situations being extreme on either side.
The millipede scene (in the police station), you can see it's similar to a scene in Charlie Chaplin's Monsieur Verdox. In that film Chaplin also portrays a negative character who is a serial killer. I think in super deluxe that millipede saving scene refers to the similar scene in Monsieur Verdox.
The close up of shots of lotus shaped grilled window when the boys enter the house for the first time indicates the demonetized money!!! Which is found later .. a kind of clue by director ..In artistic form .Huh just my perspective
And i saw vembu ex-lover in tv repair shop when shilpa searching for his son. This may be stupid, but who's Jeep is that. I think it vembu ex-lovers. Is it right? And why berlin follow them
My theory about the Alien is that it is also kind of a metaphor for the audience who are watching the movie. Because, the Alien says that she is here to watch over the humans and awaiting the point in time when humans will realize that all in one and inter-connected. In that regard, one of the core points of the movie is also the same. The movie is more or less a camera focused at the societal hypocrisy. And how the Alien watches all this, we also do the same and we realize at the end that all the events are inter-connected. Also, in the scene where the the Alien takes the cloned boy to the terrace of the building, you can partially see a neon sign board saying, "Super Deluxe", and this makes me believe more in this theory. #AskBR
Black plastic bag scene is inspired by the hat scene from the move "The Prestige", I think. .. In that movie, Tesla tries to create a clone machine and we can see may hats lying around.. May be I am wrong..

Until they find all hats somewhere outside. In Super Deluxe movie the Alien touches only the boy to clone it not the plastic covers. Thyagaraja Kumarraja aptly puts when mugil keeps two dead bodies together in the jeep. If you keep two unrelated things together people will try to deduce conclusion and inference out of it... but that was just a chaos and coincidence... I think now that was sarcastic comment on us... he just put multiple stories together and our human brain is good in forming our own patterns out of it..
The black plastic bag is an ode to The Prestige where we find Angier's room with black hats during the cloning experiment. Instead of hats, we see bags.
I kind of felt that the movie was kind of similar in the level of storytelling to a recent Malayalam movie called" Ee adutha kalathe" ex-porn star, a man dying by something falling on his head..The beats kind of look similar...

When mysskin meets shilpa, she says that after she lost the boy, she hadn't slept or eaten for a week. An in depth analysis of the metaphors and callbacks in the movie(spoiler alert) my favorite part of this movie is minute details in it 1) when the "body" mattress falls of the balcony and the desi instrumental version of star wars theme plays and the scene is edited in a way to resemble the initial scroll that we see in star wars 2) when ghaji is in the tv shop for the first time as he's watching a song playing we see that a feature on aliens is playing in the second t.v down below foreshadowing his choice & fate 3) ghaji wears a shirt which has a half cat on it's front & the other half on it's back. i think it's symbolic of schrodingers cat & the quantum mechanics concept of "superposition" especially when the alien creates or pulls out another ghaji from the existing ghaji. 3) berlin says that heart is like a monkey and he gets killed by a t.v whose company's name is "flying monkey" 4) right before shilpa comes back home there is a shot of army of ants marching up & down the door frame with people in the background conversing and as soon as raaskutti mentions his father a large & a different ant enters the frame signalling how the expected guest will be different from others 5) berlin saves a worm in the station from being squashed & in the next scene he's cursed by shilpa and the whole shot plays out like shilpa is trying to squash berlin with her hand, which shows that berlin is the worm hence his unnatural kindness to the worm in the previous scene.
The obvious reference to superbad isn't even worth mentioning.

There are too many things to be watched carefully.. Like every frame in the movie has either blue/red references..And importantly the underwear reference of 8 is shown twice.. Once my Samantha and other one by the boy who is in the restroom during the first scene.
And the scene where Myskin and Shilpa have a conversation in the subway there is a flickering light.. Once he tries to understand the real meaning of God the light steadily glows. Don't know whether it was planned this way.

Then throwing the body without them realizing it. It's kinda weak compared to the way tk plays the vj introduction. See the tension in that scene compared to the tension created when they have a corpse lying around. Also some of the scenes with fahad acting as drunkard and they both talking about the things don't like about each other is not something i expected in a movie of this caliber. Having said that rest of the movie is a roller coaster ride

I’m really passionate about films and this movie just gave me a high no other film did in recent times.
I noticed so many references in the movie and I think the director did not put everything deliberately, I think (I may be wrong) that this is simply his style of film making where he leaves no stone unturned and delivers his best in achieving some sort of closure and justification for the plot and storyline.
In most of his interviews when asked ‘What should audience expect from this movie’, he answered by just saying go with an open mind. I think that answers everything and the same can be said of people who did not like certain scenes in the movie or the entire movie itself, that they are just not open minded and accepting of certain things themselves. This is very normal and even I really had to question myself if I’m open minded enough about certain things.
This movie will have so many interpretations and understanding, it shows that the director has done a fantastic job in placing things in a certain ‘What do you think?’ manner. Amazing!!
Thiagarajan Kumararaja is hands down a brilliant film maker who is not here to satisfy anybody. Art is a form of expression and Kumararaja is an artist!!

Berlins character felt like a representation of god or karma in the traditional sense. He is the most powerful character in the movie, he asks for something (a sacrifice) to give people what they want. As the concept of god is killed in the movie, berlin literally dies.

Super Deluxe is one awesome movie in terms of making, effective use of bgm and non linear narrative style but yet not much confusing.
It had great acting performances of all of the lead cast.
After digesting Super Deluxe for few days, here comes the analysis from me 🙂
It contains the spoilers and if you haven't watched the movie and don't want to know the story.. DON'T READ BEYOND THIS.

We will see how the different plots are inter connected..
Day 1:
Plot 1: Rasukutty is 7yr old, he and his mom eagerly waiting to receive dad of Rasukutty known as Manikam, who ran away 7 yrs ago.
When Manikam arrived they are all shocked seeing his gender changed and now known as Shilpa.
At some point in story, Rasukutty is lost. While searching him, Shilpa gets humiliated by SI Berlin and she curses Berlin.
Rasukutty comes back home on his own and telling Shilpa that .. Rasukutty and mom didn't care about, what gender he is in now. So asking to stay back with them and family is United.
Day 2:
Plot 1: Vaembu's ex boy friend died in her home after "meeting" her (it's understood from title card convo that, he might consumed poison due to financial issues before coming to meet Vaembu)
She inform her husband Mukil about death of her ex and confess her mistake. Angry Mukhil wants divorce but had to cover up the death.
So Both then try to cover up the death and plan to dispose body.
They were being captured by SI Berlin, he threatening the couple about this "ugly murder" to be exposed and asking for a price to not revealing it.
Plot 2: Group of 5 teen boys planning to watch "Mallu uncut" in a friend home, and unfortunately seeing one of the friend's mom acted in the movie.
Angered boy breaking the TV and hating her mom then rushing home to kill her with screw driver.
Plot 2 splits here:
Plot 2a
The teen boy who owns the TV afraid of his dad will return and kill him for broken TV. So he decided to buy a new TV before his dad return home. He along with other 2 friends start exploring the options of earning quick money and making the funny plot.
Finally they were able to get money from alien girl and throw away the old TV.
Plot 2b:
Angry boy who was planning to kill her mom, unfortunately slipped and gets the screw driver in his stomach and losing blood.
Mom of the boy known as Leela shocked and taking her son to hospital.
She is begging everyone around to provide money but no one helps.
Plot 3: Arpudham - a tsunami survivor become a priest, after he was survived by catch holding a Jesus statue. He believing the god so much to the level that, he thinks God can heal anything.
Let's see the plot inter-connection:
Link 1: Leela and Arpudham
It was then revealed that Leela and Arpudham are married and their son is needed help in hospital
Link 2: Arpudham and Shilpa
Arpudham gets confused by the fact that, he was saved by the Statue in tsunami. So he becomes the devotee of God and started healing people in the name of God.
He meets Shilpa while she is in search of her kid and shilpa ask him confession about her mistake of kidnapping the kids while she is in Mumbai.
During the convo it's revealed that, she also a survivor of Tsunami and saved by the same statue Arpudham have it now.
While she walks away, she is telling that "adhu verum kallu dhan", this clears the confusion of Arpudham.
On day 2, when Arpudham in need of money he speaks to statue (??!) for help, when the voice is Shilpa overlap and tell him that, it's just a stone.
He breaks the statue and finding diamond stone in the statue.
Link 3: The couple and the Teen boys
As we already read that, SI Berlin threatening the couple and asking for Veambu to do "favour" for him.
Helpless Vaembu and Mukhil looking for something to happen to save them.
Suddenly the Old TV boys did throw, fell on SI Berlin and he die.

I felt the reason there were so many covers could be because the alien was probably cloning something inside the the cover, like cash or something valuable for easy survival and so there are so many similar cover. Macha just before the three guys get inside settu house, there is a dialogue where one among the three guys will tell that the setu came to the place with few rupees, now he has grown rich (not the accurate lines but something like this) and supposedly the alien is settu's friend.
Which states the alien helped settu by cloning or duplicating the money he had, which resulted in multiple plastic covers inside the house.

So here it goes,
1. "Super deluxe" as many pointed out is the ice cream company's name. It's shown at various points in the climax.
2. There are many colors used. Green, Blue, Orange and other colours which can be referred with the director's favorite movie 'Star Wars' ( Lightsaber colours)
3. Stars wars theme music is used with Mathalam and Nadeswaram! ( when the cot falls down at Vaembu's flat)
4. Star wars again when Gajji says 'May you be with the force' to newly cloned Gajji
5. When the boys sit down to watch the movie, that one guy asks to pause for a second and tells how great it would be if he becomes a porn star. At the climax the same guy demeans Leela by calling his friend as the son of a whore.
6. Actually there is a mythological reference with respect to Shilpa. I saw few photo frames hanging and the scene where she is trying to pull the lathi from Berlin. It some what reminds me of some Indian mythological stuff. Shilpa and four constables holding her and all against Berlin. Similarly Berlin comes in veshti sattai and garlands Shilpa at the first meeting, like some wedding.

The whole movie is interesting. I want to tell some scenes which was exciting.
1. The alien cue was given twice in the movie. In the TV, you can see an alien space shuttle flying. Then, in the background, you can hear voices taking about aliens in the TV.
2. The background voices are one of the main aspect of the movie. For example., when Ramasamy blabbers how Arputham character has helped him to walk(talk as first time ), in the background Ramya Krishnan character says 'olaradha' which is again the exact reaction of audience.
3. In the near climax there're two continuous shots where one door closes and the other door opens - again this is the philosophy of life, 'oru kathavu moodina innoru kathavu thirakum'

A plot inside which there are 4 sub plots and all these plots has different story line and different genre though it's within the main plot all the more nonlinear story telling adds a vibrant hook to the film... I need to write a separate write up to talk about the director Thiagarajan Kumararaja for his brilliance in the craft and the way he staged the film.. let's discuss about individual performance first.
The very first frame a black screen and title card and you are already in to the Crux of the first plot even before the characters are introduced.. That brilliant is the directorial skill and story telling and screenplay writing.
Samantha as vembu- Sexual feeling can come to anyone upon anyone and at anytime... Her simple dialogue reveals all that.. she has done a very cheeky role in a fantastic way.. life is all about the space you give and space you get to be you is the thread of her character which she holds it till last frame of the film..
FAHAD as Mugil - A Subtle character who doesn't over react even though he sees a dead body is what he is made of.. his screen presence is tidy though less scope for acting.. I felt there is a separate scene which is added just to portray his skills which was very obvious as we already know his abilities...
Dead body - after magalir mattum (Nagesh) a full length dead body character who just steals the show a well done job..
Gaaji - A cool hero minded Character well portrayed by this man... His dialogue delivery has a unique punch and it just steals the show...
Thuyavan - an ordinary specs guy who has nothing but friends and his presence on screen is equally great..
Mutta bonda - this man is soooper on screen he just gives u a comical relief and does it so well..
Soori - An angry boy who could not digest someone on screen runs with a weapon and that run ends up in a different plot.. well executed stuff..
Mohan - a runner boy who runs through out the movie and engages us with his pace..
Ramya Krishnan as Leela- she just transforms from Sivagami Devi in bahubali to an actor of a porn movie and a typical mother who is worried about her child and inabilities of hubby.. just mind blowing performance inside hospital shows her experience.. Her versatility is well utilized...
Myskin as Dhanasekar (a) Arputham - A well written character and a well maintained acting skills throughout.. he steals the show just by his dialogue delivery skills..
Ramasamy - His harmonica and his naan satchi dialogue is extremely well crafted and used whenever required .. he does his role well..
Mirnalini as alien - she just did her bit in explaining the oneness in everything and the duality in everything very well.. infact that's the thread of the movie too..
Gayathri as Pooja - does a family based mother who is waiting for her hubby to come back after he left them for 7.5yrs as tidy as possible.. her tear filled eyes are best utilized.. The moment she accepts her husband as what he is, is the kick of her character and she does a seemlessly neat job...
Master Ashwanth as Rasukutty - his serial experience has helped him to do this important and meaty role so beautifully... He just adds so much value to the entire sub plot.. An award on the way baby.. Get ready.. Director guaged his skills very well and wrote this...
Vijay Sethupathy as Manickam & Shilpa - he just tones down his voice and tuned up his performance as Shilpa... In scenes like police station fight with Baks and underground scene with myskin he just rules it...
Bhagavathy perumal as Berlin - an irritating police officer does his best to irritate us so that we feel like killing him... Well portrayed character of his lifetime..
There are few characters more who grabs our attention and steals the show like auto driver, grandpa, grandma, aeroplane, TV, black cover, Ilayaraja songs as RR, who just did their roles so efficiently..
Nirav Shah and p s vinod have just given u a visual treat without disturbing our eyes and vision and without irritating with lights and played a beautiful script with colours, tone and pallette..with Rgb as the colour tone R they trying to tell that they are showing us the basics of everything? ... kudos to both..
Art department at it's best starting from costumes to postures to narrow lanes and congested roads to a manless level crossing to a old company set up and those black covers... U guys marked ur presence very well...
Editor Sathyaraj cannot cut this film better and serve it to us the most complicated script with a simple narration.. amazing work..
Yuvan Shankar Raja - U just played with your job man... U played single key for long time and created that irritation in the scene.. u played a jingle to ease out the pain.. u played star war music in nadaswaram and nailed it in one scene ... U r just amazing man... One of your best works.
Sound design - I wish I could get a audio track of the entire film to hear it and enjoy . It's so amazing... Loved it . Cat sound, atmospheric sound, layers of sound mixing... pppaaaa... Will watch it again only for you Arun Seenu Duo..

Alien scene was hinted at already in the movie before it happened ... i was literally waiting for it to happen while watching it.
1) Documentary on alien life on Vaembu's tv
2) Aliens movie poster appeared on a wall. Ideally should have been a random movie poster in recent times but an 80s sci-fi film poster was specifically chosen.
I'd have overlooked these observations usually, but given its a TKR film, I suspected that there must be more to these hints and expected an alien scene later in the film in some form and it did happen. Felt good. Such a fun experience watching this film and all the more happy that its a tamizh film.
The plane also flies over when Shilpa and raasukkutty are going to the school. So is there a time lapse in the film because Berlin comes into Shilpa's story after that also when she thinks her boy is lost.

This AskBR is brilliant. I guess there is a link between Gangsters poisoning experiment and Vembu's Ex. Lover death (may be due to positioning) and Berlin gets clue from gangster and follows their Jeep. This movie needs multiple watch

The connection in Vijay and Fahadh’s story is Shilpa cursing Berlin which results in him dying.
We can't take it right away, Berlin wants to shoot the video, so he stand in the Location where the TV suppose to be landed.
When Shilpa is in school with his son, he will tell that God has designed him with a wrong body. Within few seconds, we can see a quote from Thirukural on school board, 'Theyvaththaan Aakaa Theninum Muyarsidhan Meyvaruththak Kooli Tharum'.

Yesterday watched super deluxe in Netflix its one of a kind movie in tamil cinema
The black bag to me was very philosophical like saying vazhve poiyada verum katraidaitha paiyada, the bag airs up when cell is being divided into two when the alien creates it, then it goes down by saying now the airs into humans. That’s what I felt, maybe it’s wrong maybe it’s right.
SO tkr 's super deluxe and its world is basically .. based on Murphy's law. As it is considered chaos .. also i feel it has a very good connection with magnolia

When the alien keep her hand on his head, I think they both travel to another parallel universe, another universe where there is a crazy gravity or a universe where the location of the plastic bag is just different. She takes the gaaji from that universe and bring him to this universe.

I have never seen BR sir have so many moments where he goes “I haven’t figured that out yet”, “I’m finding it hard explaining this”, that according to me is the success of this movie and what TKR wanted to do with the movie. He wanted to create something so bizarre and macrocosmic that it might never be possible to completely make sense of what he’s done. Frankly, this was one of the best videos and that is primarily because the movie is out of the world.

There was magic event written on the walls right before any turning point in the movie. Before Shilpa loses her kid, before Thuyavan goes to warn the guy about poisoned tea etc

Like the movie that cannot be placed in a particular genre, I feel U1 music also suffers the same. The purple patch of his BGM score should definitely be the scene when Shilpa’s first encounter with Berlin at the police station takes place. The music in that sequence is really blood curdling and sets the tone for the progression of the scene. It is an amazing piece. Though the same score though a watered down version appears whenever Berlin is there, the score during Shilpa’s first encounter reached its zenith. I would love to know the instruments used. I would definitely love to have that piece as my caller tune 🤪😬. So many ppl are talking about all the great performances of its lead characters. But for me the standout performance is Bagavathi Perumal as Berlin. Stunning to say the least. His acting has matched the characterisation. (Proved T S Eliot wrong 🤪) All others are miles behind him.

The shot where the fours kids discusses who gets to go buy the CD on the street was framed by placing them in between the window grills. It kinda gives a feel like they are gonna get trapped later similar to the frame.

My theory about the Alien is that it is also kind of a metaphor for the audience who are watching the movie. Because, the Alien says that she is here to watch over the humans and awaiting the point in time when humans will realize that all in one and inter-connected. In that regard, one of the core points of the movie is also the same. The movie is more or less a camera focused at the societal hypocrisy. And how the Alien watches all this, we also do the same and we realize at the end that all the events are inter-connected. Also, in the scene where the the Alien takes the cloned boy to the terrace of the building, you can partially see a neon sign board saying, "Super Deluxe", and this makes me believe more in this theory. #AskBR

Black plastic bag scene is inspired by the hat scene from the move "The Prestige", I think. .. In that movie, Tesla tries to create a clone machine and we can see may hats lying around.. May be I am wrong..
It can't be the hat. In Prestige they try to clone the hat first. But they didn't know where the cloned hat has gone and think the cloning machine is not working. Until they find all hats somewhere outside. In Super Deluxe movie the Alien touches only the boy to clone it not the plastic covers. I guess someone should interview the director now and ask him all the questions 😀

Thyagaraja Kumarraja aptly puts when mugil keeps two dead bodies together in the jeep. If you keep two unrelated things together people will try to deduce conclusion and inference out of it... but that was just a chaos and coincidence... I think now that was sarcastic comment on us... he just put multiple stories together and our human brain is good in forming our own patterns out of it..

Shilpa story happens the before day .....if you keenly watch the starting scene of Arpudham(Myskin )...Myskin refuses to pray for other because of the doubt....actually the doubt was initiated by shilpa in the subway....Myskin describes dat subway scenario to his assistant which happened before day....
A friend of mine believes that the plastic bag is a reference to the numerous Hats in Nolan's Prestige. A bag which she could have practiced cloning on.

When mysskin meets shilpa, she says that after she lost the boy, she hadn't slept or eaten for a week. Could it be possible that every story except for shilpa's happen in one day but shilpa's story happens one week earlier.
