Bed Bug DNA sampling

On July 29, 2011 I caught up with Dr. Kate Johnson of Research Associates Labs in Addison, TX to learn about a new technology being used to detect bed bugs. Dr. Kate was presenting at the Bed Bug Academy of the Southwest 2011 in Arlington, TX

LOL, this is not DNA fingerprinting this is quantitative PCR which is a very different technique and approach.
One (DNA fingerprinting) can tell you a lot about the genetic variation and source of the bedbugs such as for analysis in buildings to find common sources or spread of bedbugs.
However QPCR as discussed here was not as accurate as some are claiming when we tested it.
It is very important not to confuse these two techniques as one has value (fingerprinting) the other does not.
