      Yeah
      If it wasn't a MMO
I mean sure Blizzard _reshaped_ what it is to be an MMO, but before an MMO was meant to be grind.
But not competitive grind, oh no. It was meant to be a grind to just do a trivial chore with like 2 neurons of brain power, while you're doing school work on the sides. Think of a cookie clicker game, but a lot more social.
Mind you I'm explaining MMO in like, early 1990s. Early 2000s it was already taking shape to be something else.
Basically if you were looking for an MMO? You were actively looking for a home-away-from-home game. The mindset of "beat the game and be done with it" was retrograde to what an MMO wanted you to do.

He’s 100% correct though that the game becoming actually difficult alienated a large chunk of the casual player base. Cataclysm was a very good expansion in terms of leveling through the zones, the dungeons being rewarding, and the raid content being challenging. A lot of hardcore Pvp players have stated cataclysm arena was the height of the arena scene and being a competitive player at the time I have to agree. The game was very good, people just don’t like change and a lot of people wanted the community, not the challenge.

With my 30 years and a job, the last thing I want is to have another job grinding in game. You log in, do daily hc, maybe few dungs with friends, log for raid spend couple of hours blasting and continue with your life. That's more than enough content for me. I played it regularly since start of the classic, will play it till the end of the expansion and maybe even if it resets. Never got bored, or felt like I need more.

I have no desire to play retail (or anything really beyond Cata). I am finding myself more interested in Hardcore (at least until I saw what happened on Four Horseman) as I am a casual player and would find it a fun challenge to see how far I could get before dying. Classic had its problems, not the least of which was unbalanced classes and meme specs, but it had a charm to it that I enjoy and find myself coming back to time and again. I would like some quality of life changes (shorter CD on hearthstones, a flightpoint in Northern Stranglethorn for Alliance, that sort of thing). I am far more likely to continue playing Classic Vanilla in any of its incarnations than I am the retail expansions.

I'd go back and play Wrath Classic if they had RDF. It was getting difficult to find a group for regular dungeons a few months after launch, never mind not being quite geared enough for heroic groups after hitting fresh 80. LFR can gtfo, but RDF this late in Wrath classics life cycle would be very much welcomed.

    • @KelvinUTUB
      @KelvinUTUB Рік тому +2

RDF should exist for all non-relevant dungeons (Vanilla, TBC, Normal WotLK, Heroic WotLK and Heroic-Alfa WotLK). Only Heroic-Beta should require the LFG. This helps to clear a gap that would otherwise require to buy a ticket run to T7 or T8. Specially now that HeroB dungeons don't drop 80-Hero items like Cynanigosa's caster trinket in VH or the Meteorite in UP, but yet you still would have to burn your daily Heroic save to have a chance at it.
They need competing avenues to the gold-gated ways of gearing, whenever they are game-created or community-created. This would specially amazing for people playing alts or for people in dead servers.

I just returned to retail after not playing for 4 years, and it's a lot of fun. The game is currently so alt friendly ATM that if the meta shifted so drastically that my class didn't stand a chance it gives me a reason to master and level another class, and do expansion content I never did to max out another toon. Also the skill gap is high enough that the meta shift has to be really drastic to have an effect on my QOL as that class

I always said that I wish I was there from the beginning. Vanilla Classic wow release gave me that opportunity. Same thing with a friend of mine. I am having fun collecting rare mounts and going through the content. I was farming winterspring frostsaber with the first person to achieve it in my server back in 2019. It was a blast! Did a lot of research to learn about the game of course though. I wasn't able to play during BC but just came back and playing through BC and WoTLK content now, taking my time. It's fun but I wish the LFG worked cross-realm so I could play through the raids. I feel like I missed out on the experience again but at least I am here for wrath and some TBC is still ran for mounts and achievements. I hope to tag along sometime.

A series of community events like massive world pvp battles in the arathi highlands and other world pvp zones, a whole community led war story that can be streamed sounds like it would help with player boredom and needing something to do as well as revitalize passion for the PVP scene. It could be turned into an event that can be looked back on in WoW history like the old days of leeroy jenkins or the infamous funeral crash. PVP in WoW used to mean something, i remember wanting to play WoW for years because of the PVP. The passion died before I got to the game and it’s sad to see. So many people cheat or just farm for BiS because they want to be “the best” or for “the flex” hardly anybody ever plays the game for the love of the game anymore. Right, at first I kinda wanted to say that there were technical limitations, like some things might be hard-coded to only work with servers, but Layering technology has been in use for at least 10+ years now. On top of that the AH, trading, and cross-faction stuff is all becoming more unified, so there is a lot of progress being made to get rid of servers entirely. Its just that there is 0 financial incentives to getting rid of servers because they probably still make quite a bit of money off of server transfers.

Guess how much it matters that you play the OP class of the month with OP raid gear if there are 1000 enemies chasing you. I imagine this has an impact on exploration in terms of zones but also the in terms of how players enjoy the freedom to create their own adventures in a universe they like. A world of Warcraft with the foundations of classic but with new experiences or expansions, would be exuberant and meaningful if they execute it well, I’m sure. It would probably make all content types more relevant and make it more attractive to invest time in getting better at the game, for example in pvp. Why bother with that if its gonna die soon anyways. Its a long learning curve, which in itself can be a positive, but just not combined with the prospect of it going to waste in a few years. These current iterations are just a nice trip to memory lane.

People who want to be hosts would be able to create their own WoW classic through their own efforts, and players would have a lot of options. They NEED to drop end game solo content on retail for this game to be popular again.
People might have 45 minutes to play the game in one instance and they want to do a dungeon let's say, they log in the game, they spend 15 minutes in dungeon finder, don't get invited and exit game, because there's clearly not enough time left. Instead of playing the game, they look at a screen hopeless.
I experienced this a lot of times and I am easily going through end game content whenever I invest the time. I just don't always want to grind the dungeon finder "Find group" button.
Easy fix would be to give a separate solo M+ like thing that rewards same as group m+. Make it harder than grouping so that's harder for those with no time or friends in game to get rewarded, but give them the chance to play the game without frustrations of being left outside.
Look at how well the solo shuffle is doing. And it would do a lot better if queues weren't 15-20 minutes long. I for one enjoyed solo shuffle at the beginning of the expansion when I was putting enough time into the game, but right now playing it more casually, I'm not going to wait 15-20 minutes in queue just for someone to leave in the second round.
I still can't believe they didn't add a 2v2 version of this so that players don't have to wait 15-20 minutes for a healer to pop out in their queue. It's crazy they don't act on their issues.

Cata raids were so much fun other then the final raid killing Deathwing because that fight was just stupid.

right now, personally, i am enjoying df tbf, im getting the sense of having a goal. im a noob so idk if there is a infinite grind in the game, but I'm progressing quick and consistently. the latest patch having a bunch of qol is nice also.

Idk man honestly 14:42 I go around inspecting people all the time because of what they have and look like. I DO msg people and I know it puts a smile on their face and EVERYONE has seemed so freaking helpful I'm honestly probably never going back to retail until I have to
I played right when BFA was coming out and I didn't play shadowlands and I've only created a character for dragonflight.
Classic feels like a better game to me as its not constantly throwing stuff at me and makes me feel like I actually achieve something.

I kind of wish they would try to do the Classic plus stuff and add content that is somewhat exclusive to classic, possibly set up a whole new AU sort of thing, maybe do an expansion where instead of Garrosh being hinted as the villain, it ends up being Jaina or someone else like that I dunno, I just think it would be good to get a new narrative besides "Horde bad."

Cata raids and HC Dungeons are still BIS and were fucking hard back then. They were hard not unreal. But you wiped in heroic dungeons consntaly. Needed cc and a team to coordinate. Raids were next lvl coming from wrath. Cata while not being remember fondly was super fun back then just lasted too long and the last raid was not great.
