    One thing I later realized I should note. In the video you might of noticed how I had the AOB and Distance get automatically (and incorrectly) inputted by the game as I was in the process of finding my own data. But I didn't assign any officer to start calculating a torpedo solution in the first place so I'm not sure why that's happening! Thankfully you can just override it by inputting your own numbers like I did here. Or to completely avoid having that happen, the best solution would be to start your campaign with Hardcore Aiming Mode enabled.

    • @kubejunkie
      @kubejunkie 3 місяці тому

      I believe the reason this happens is, the officer you have on the attack scope so you can do the calculations yourself starts doing his own calculations as soon as you lock the target. I prefer to allow this when first starting to do your calculations so you can have something to compare your calculations against before firing. Once you get the hang of things, hardcore aiming is best like you suggest to perfect your aiming.

      One thing that worked good for me was making a few save game files right when I was about to close in on a ship. Then I could load them up whenever for practice and try and learn from misses by trial and error and just repetition basically.

    Torpedo solutions was one thing I struggled at even more than intercepting targets properly, but once I got good at them, it's one of the most rewarding feelings. I still get super excited watching the torpedo on the camera, and occasionally shout with excitement when it strikes 😅 Now im working on doing the TCS myself instead of an officer. One step at a time

    When you really get the hang of torpedo targeting and can play the game on realism without target previewing and such, Uboat becomes a different game entirely and is so much fun.

      I completely agree! I'm new to subsims and naval warfare games. In fact I'm actually new to PC gaming lol. But I've recently become fascinated with Uboats and have been watching every documentary and movie/tv show I can find on them. Then I found this game and I'm hooked! I just sunk my first ship playing on 100% realism and in FP play as the skipper mode and it was so satisfying. I love this game! Skipper mode is awesome, I can't wait for them to polish it more because that's how I want to play from now on.

      Not U-boat sim, but if you want to explore more sub sims, maybe also give "Cold waters" a go too. It's a cold war focused sub sim. I believe GOG might still have it on sale for something like $10. It's hard as balls at first though lol. But me, I'm a submarine nerd so I took the abuse. lol Sinking a soviet Romeo class from my Permit class (formerly Thresher class) sub is always fun. lol
      And in a way, it's still technically U-boat related. The Romeo class subs had their roots in the type XXI U-boat.

    For Angle on the Bow, one thing you can do on highest difficulty is to track distance of the ship (after you manageg to identify it visually), and after some time, a line will take shape after you calculate enough points of identification on the map. It should also help you with determinating the speed of the ship.

    • @RoboCharged

    Hey, Really love this and the intercepting video, are you planning on doing a crew schedule & task (maybe even with dive schedule) guide?

    • @RoboCharged
      @RoboCharged  Місяць тому

      Thanks I'm glad you liked those vids! I actually started to delve into crew management briefly with the intent on making a video. But I'm not really qualified to advise anything new or different since it's generally been an afterthought for me so far. There's already some good guides out there and to me I think as long as people can find a base that works personal preference tweaks can be made from there.
      I don't do anything special just obviously go for the 2nd radio man asap and don't allow any crew on the observation periscope. Then I copied a vid to just make sure nobody is ever missing from a station or overly tired with balanced shifts etc. I'm sure it becomes more important later in the game, but I plan on doing a playthrough with mods that expand the crew and adjust max dive times etc so haven't wanted to spend to much time on analyzing it all just yet.
      I haven't really went past the first year or so of the game honestly because I keep starting over to up the difficulty and capture footage for beginner guides.. And I tried the Play As Skipper Mode and that kind of ruined the game for me! I prefer it so much I want to wait for it to be finished so I can playthrough it all like that now haha.
      Mods have been my next focus lately. I've been trying out all the full release friendly ones available so far to compile a list and looking to make my next video about that right now.

    • @xathylos
      @xathylos Місяць тому

      @ Ah that does make plenty of sense, I started just having a 6 on 6 off shift with 2h dive and 2h no dive myself but was wondering about stuff that’s optimal, I funnily enough do have crew on the periscope but am going to remove it next time I play, thank you for the answer and the guides, I am actually starting to intercept a lot more ships!
      Funnily enough I intercepted a warship and had to dive to 180m because the entire convoy was warships, I did get the survive 100 depth charge achievement tho lol

    • @RoboCharged
      @RoboCharged  Місяць тому

      @@xathylos No problem It's great that you found something from it to be useful! I highly recommend checking out this video ua-cam.com/video/1GDPgfNU_m0/v-deo.html by ramjb for optimal crew set up and then tweaking it from there as you go through the game or develop personal preferences and strategies. He is a much more avid and in-depth knowledgeable subsim/naval warfare gamer than I. I just copied his basic setup for myself and then just made very minor tweaks as I saw fit here and there for my playthroughs so far.
      I think he even mentions the reason for no crew on observation periscope...they can randomly pop it up and give you away and there's nothing to gain from it. Just a pure negative and avoidable occurrence. He's spent the time trying and optimizing things well enough for anyone to get a great base to work off of and adjust as they see fit..
      I don't think he covers dive schedules if I remember right but that is likely something that will need to evolve as you play through your campaign. Late game I hear things get pretty intense and you'll likely want to only surface after dark when possible. Early game it's just a way to avoid having to do manual hydrophone checks as often but the fuel savings and airplane dodging aren't really all that necessary yet and you travel slower.
      Damn nice one! I haven't got that achievement yet, must of been a close shave! Figures you find a convoy of only warships! Was it in the English channel by chance? *Edit* I guess probably not since I don't know if it even gets that deep there!?

      Yeah it can take some practice. I started out by always saving the game right when I was getting ready to attack a ship and then would run it back until I managed to get a hit. It's a good way to get some quick reps in and an instant redo chance to figure out what went wrong each time.

    Really helpful guide thanks. This really is a smart and engrossing game. But I'm not sure about moving targets and AOB. Does the method you outline apply the same for moving targets? Because the angle would change as the target moved.

    • @RoboCharged
      @RoboCharged  7 днів тому +1

      Yes once you determine the AOB and put it in then it will continue to update automatically from there. The ship was moving in the demonstration so you'll see the AOB changing through the video. When I determine and enter it it is at 82 degrees and it changes to 94 degrees by the time I fire the torpedoes. That is why you often have to hit the speech bubble a 2nd time at the end to give the TDC an updated final reading at the last second before issuing the order to fire.

    I like your video. I have some things i would like to know. At around 1941 most konvoys and ships start to see my torps and evade them and is there a chance to see what weather is comming? I had i think 75% fog or really bad heavy storms with waves high enough so i could not see the target long enough to get a good solution. And how are night attacks most of the time the ships are not really good to see because the ai sees and alarms me before i can see them in the periskop ;)

    • @RoboCharged
      @RoboCharged  12 днів тому

      Thanks I'm glad you liked it! For ships seeing your torps that just depends on what kind you are using. I think it's T1's that leave the bubble trail that can be seen or noticed while T2s are harder to detect and you keep getting better ones to use and equip as you go.
      I don't know of any way to predict the weather by getting a report but I'd guess there are mods to help with that. I honestly haven't ventured very far into the game since I kept restarting to capture footage for beginner guides and am waiting for the Play As Skipper Mode and full release compatible Mods to come out to do a full playthrough.
      I'd recommend attacking on the surface at night and turning on the red lights which allows for you to see further on the map. You should be able to get pretty close on the surface and fire off some torps then dive and slink away in the chaos. If you are using the hardest settings where you can't see ships on the map and have darker nights activated then I can't really be of much help as I'm not at that level yet haha.

    I need to try this. I just started playing the game and the crew almost always misses moving ships with their calculations

    • @kubejunkie
      @kubejunkie 3 місяці тому +1

      This could be that you are not waiting long enough for the crew to do their calculations. In the map when you have a target selected, you can see a % in the upper right of the target box in the lower left of your map. This indicates the accuracy of the crews torpedo solution, and it takes quite some time to get to 99%. In my testing, if you wait until 99 or 100%, you are fairly sure to hit the target. I've also noticed the crew doesn't adjust for distance all the time as you get closer, which would throw things off. I typically manually confirm aob and distance before firing if I'm relying on the crew to do calculations.

    • @aaronb4936
      @aaronb4936 3 місяці тому +1

      @@kubejunkieI was waiting till 100 percent.. I was not aware of them not adjusting distance though. I’m really struggling to get decent hit consistently in this game. Even with manual aiming/solutions I more often miss just in front or just behind ships. Does the placement of the crosshair in the attack periscope matter at all? I wouldn’t think so but I was wondering. I am locked into target and double verified my inputs. And I click the button to send info to the TDC. Thanks for your help though

    • @kubejunkie
      @kubejunkie 3 місяці тому +1

      @aaronb4936 placement of the crosshairs matters. If you are off in front of the target, I would expect that your speed calculations are off or you are not targeting mid ship. I try to put crosshairs mid ship, like right under the funnel on a empire bell. For calculating speed, sometimes I full stop engines to get a more accurate reading. I would suggest you save on an approach so you can practice approach and firing solutions against the same target. For getting AOB and distance, you can use map tools. For example, if you put the bearing tool on the target ship when you can see it, you will know the 0 bearing for the ship. If you draw a line to your boat from the target, you will get the distance and with the bearing tool in place on the target, the bearing that line falls on will give you the aob. If you are on the starboard side of the target, the bearing will be your AOB exactly. If you are on port side, subtract the bearing from 360 and add a - and you will have the AOB. Port side, bearing 290 will be -70 AOB. This will help you until you can feel more confident in your guesstimate by eye. Oh and distance can be too far, try to be close as close as you can, within 2km but the closer the better. Just dont want to be too close, minimum distance of like 300m or you will run into more duds than you would like. Does this help?

    @aaronb4936 3 місяці тому

    Does the placement of your attack periscope crosshair have any bearing on where the torpedos go? I would assume not as long as I am “locked” to a target ship and have entered the relevant targeting data, but I still seem to miss just ahead or just behind enemy ships.

    • @RoboCharged
      @RoboCharged  3 місяці тому +1

      I actually didn't think it mattered myself until just now so I'm editing my answer haha. I looked it up online and found answers on Reddit saying it didn't matter. However I always still bothered to keep it on the middle of the ship anyways so never tested it really. As it turns out it does matter! As before you fire if you move it a ways off the ship one way or another you'll see the AOB start to change rapidly on you. So definitely aim to have it on the middle part of the ship when you fire!
