@microkosrae Many people in Hawaii and other countries like to prune breadfruit trees so they can reach the fruit easily, especially if the trees are growing in smaller spaces like their yards. You are right, certain varieties of breadfruit, many of which we have in our breadfruit collection, grow really big and tall and are perfect for the construction of canoes. Thanks for your comment.
Thank you for this video. Breadfruit is of 3 most important trees in my culture, there are ways to preserved it to make it last for 1 or more years. It was the breadfruit tree that made it possible for my people to settled new lands or conquered new territories in the Marshall Islands Micronesia.
Yokwe! I fell in love with ma on Woja. I learned how to make it roasted over an open fire, dipped in oil and salt; fried chips; and cut up and cooked in coconut milk. So delicious.
IMHO, one of the most ornamental landscape trees in the world aside from being a terrific source of food. I've even seen it growing on Pitcairn Island, where the famed mutineers scuttled and burnt the Bounty, If I moved to Hawaii the first trees I'd plant would be ulu!!!!
When I first moved to Hawaii the Hawaiians used to make fun of me and other Samoans for eating ulu lol! So sad how lost they were. I’m glad they link it with Tahitians cuz now they can eat it without the “negative” connection to Samoans
I recognize the last Auntie! She hosted us in Kauai for a luau! On a beautiful plantation full of a hundred different groves all growing together. I live in New York, far away from tree-ripened breadfruit, but will ask our local co-op if they can order organic breadfruit from Hawaii. Should I ask for a particular variety?
+Donna Miele OMG!!!! I went to Kauai with my sister a couple years ago...cannot get over how beautiful it is there...hope to visit again very soon...maybe for good! ;-)
we don't cut down the branch because the breadfruit branch is really important in micronesia because we need the bruedfruit to grow the trunk so we can build a canoe...thats why we grow alooooooott(forreals)
Love to make breadfruit punch and dehydrate the breadfruit to the final product of breadfruit flour Jamaica we roast, boil, baked, juice, and all things breadfruit

that one guy is right: we have it in our genes to eat traditional food. just try and it'll lead you there. so, as east european, i'll have a crack at acorns!

@@elizabethdavis1696 I’d guess coconut (selling roasted coconut is a major export). And pandanus (unless that’s a shrub?)
Thank you for contributing to agricultural sustainability for food security!
