She was criminally underrated. All those twirls and flips, her body is in a straight tight line the entire time, never loses form.
Vera Ellen is a perfect example of the best of the best talents rising to top in hollywood💓
This made me ridiculously happy
Crackin' comment :-) - me too
Since I watched this movie a few weeks ago (on TCM) this song (the whole skit, really) has been stuck in my head in a good way!!! This is now my all time favorite Vera Ellen performance. I'm so glad it's here where I can watch it whenever I want to!!!
She is a really good dancer!
What a saucy number! Oh to be able to dance like that!
legs for dayyyyyssss
Wow those jete en tournant and fouetté were really good, she wasn’t playing
Once again, Vera Ellen's character shows remarkable prescience by wearing nylons many years before nylon was invented. More proof that she's a genius!
Nylon stockings were first sold in 1940. Before that, women wore silk and wool. Dancers had access to full-length stockings, not readily available to the public. Think of the early ballerinas in the 1800s with their long tights.
Esta mujer era toda una atleta
Wished I had a chance to meet her
She has a wonderful line, as liquid as oil. Her acrobatic moves are effortlessly part of the flow, though she does not risk her neck as much as Eleanor Powell in 'All Ashore' when she let sailors chuck her about.
This is a sample of the Francophilia that overcame Hollywood after the war, patronizingly envisioned in ooh-la-la cliches. 'It was back to 'Love Me Tonight'', a fantasy of the Ville Lumiere. An American in Paris' next year did the French more justice, though its Paris did not lok like a city recovering from war and Occupation.
Pffffffffffffffff ... effortless dancer.
Eat le heart out, Gwen Verdon!
Vera-Ellen is GOAT.
Did anyone else come here from Deadpool 2??
