    THIS IS my favourite car. I've only been on the planet for 17 years but my favourite cars are the space age finned jets from 1957-61 BUT the 1960 model year Plymouth full-size cars are the best, and one like this is my dream car. Though I am more partial to the Belvedere than the topline Fury; and my Grandma, in 1962, got chauffered to her wedding in a burgundy, white-topped 1960 Belvedere with the optional tire bulge on the trunk. It was my Great Uncle Jim's car.

    Dad really liked Mopar. He bought a new 53 Desoto. (my earliest memories are of that car.) Then he bought a new 60 Plymouth wagon that was just like this car, only a wagon. I don't think I ever drove it as he traded it for a 67 Olds.
    Next came a 68 Dodge Dart.
    He always bought new cars and took good care of them.
    Thanks for the memories and hilarious commentary!

      Yup, those were the days when you'd see some neighborhood guy who seemed to have a new car every year or so. If you asked him why he did that, he'd likely say something like, "Oh, the ash trays were full"!! LOL ;D

    • @mikefannon6994

      Ron - back in 50s and 60s new cars didn't depreciate like today. I had a couple of uncles who traded for a new car every year. Also, the design cycles were much shorter. Changes in design and features happened every year.

    Great one, Charles, you have a fabulous channel. I grew up in this era of cars, Glendale CA, the HS class of 1964, and it makes one "cry like a baby" to see what has happened to so-called styling of cars today. No soul at all, just computer designed crap, IMHO. Any way some fun sayings from us kids in those days, re: these great, classics now but everyday then, cars. That push button Torqueflite transmission was called the "typewriter", and the crispest thing you can imagine, behind a big V8, no "slush-o-matic" as we used to call say a Chevy's (Powerglide??) of the same era. If a car went really fast, we would say "it goes like a raped ape", and of course all cars that looked like this one were just called "Bitchin'". And the huge back seats were called "rolling motel rooms" too!! That is a real "beaut'" too, LOL.
    I know you can't tell us where you get them, then you'd have to eliminate all of us, eh? Cheers from nice hot AZ where these cars stay dry and rust free for a long long time, but the sun is brutal on their "naugahyde" interiors. ;D

    Some things are wrong with it, besides the terrible, terrible redone cloth seat inserts.
    As a CA Fury, it should have the nicer 3 dimensional door Panels. It should also have a red steering wheel.
    At 14k miles, the OE seats should still be intact.
    Currently 200k on my OE Seat covers, still look 99% like new. The oe cloth is very durable and a beautiful mid century design.

    This is a real classic. It looks like brand new ! I personally liked the rear fin and tail light of 1959 better. In 1960, the Dodge Polara was an even more dramatic fin and rear. I remember the 1961 Fury looking so terribly different. The fins were over !

    • @ronschlorff7089
      @ronschlorff7089 Місяць тому +1

      My uncle had a new 1964 Dodge Polara, black with red interior, which happened to be my HS colors, and I think it still had that push button, aka "typewriter", 3-speed transmission too. With a 383 V8, it was the perfect combination for the street then.
      But Uncle Mel always complained about the "worn rear tires" when I returned it to him after asking to take it out on a date, in 1966!! LOL :D
