I thought it was interesting that the orca was swimming upside down in the beginning. That looks like playing to me, because the orca knows he’s basically invisible from above. My guess is that the orca knew exactly what was on the surface: a human on a surfboard. I think orcas bump things just to get a sense of how solid they are - he could be playing or just curious.
I like at the end when the orca decided he had orcas to see and places to go. This was just a fun little encounter for him.
Haven’t you seen them “play” with dead seals? 😳 because they absolutely do that very violently. Same goes for the captive orca attacks, taking an object and dragging it to the bottom of the pool was just a game to them. Luckily, as you say, they this orca probably doesn’t need cheap thrills, because there’s lots of other stuff to do out there
@@spencerschubert5001
There’s different eco-types of orcas and it’s actually only a few small pods that target prey outside of fish and squid. Those pods are known as transient orcas.
The video quality makes it hard to see what eco-type the orca in the video is but I’m pretty sure she’s a resident rather than a transient (ergo she probably only eats fish). She’s seems to be a young female as well. I doubt she ever had any intention of being violent and was just curious about what the human was doing. After all, it would be all too easy for an orca to knock the person into the water.
I don’t mean to be all know-it-all, orcas are just my special interest and so I find videos like this very intriguing and like to give facts about orcas :)
@@spencerschubert5001 no humans have been attacked by orcas in the wild. the only known attacks have been in captivity.
I read somewhere that the upside down approach is a sign of non-aggression. it's the orca saying "I'm not here to fight." not exactly the same as a dog going belly up to show submission, but similar in being visual communication. like don't smile at a strange dog. it sees you bearing your teeth as a sign of aggression. or don't stare at a silver back. it sees that as a challenge?

The Lummi Nation refer to the local orcas as Qwe 'lhol mechen, which means 'our relatives who live under the sea' or 'the people under the waves.' Orcas live in tight-knit families. In most cases, both males and females stay in their natal pod throughout their entire lives (this is especially true for Southern and Northern Residents). Orcas are incredibly intelligent and social. Their limbic system (the part of the brain that processes emotion) is incredibly developed and complex. Each pod uses a distinctive dialect to communicate. They're the only species, besides humans, pilot whales, beluga whales and narwhals, that go through menopause.
Famous Southern Resident orcas (fish eaters) : Lolita, Granny, Ocean Sun, Tahlequah (who made worldwide headlines when she was spotted carrying her dead calf for 17 days), Moby Doll, Shamu, Luna (there's a documentary about Luna called The Whale)
Famous Northern Resident orcas (fish eaters) : Springer, Namu, Corky, Tsitika, Eve, Sharky, Top Notch
Famous Transient orcas (mammal eaters) : Lonesome George, Fatfin, Chainsaw, Esperanza, Sidney and her three children, Raksha and her five daughters
❤ From Bellingham!
Interestingly the surfboard is black and white. The orca is also black and white. Maybe it was just curious to see something so rare in the ocean as another black and white thing. If you look closely at 0:07 the orca is actually completely sideways swimming underneath. I assume because this is the best position it can get it's small eye to look at the board. I found this behavior quite interesting as well.

I get to see Orcas almost every day during their migration. I would have to say they are just like dolphins but love to eat bigger things. Same playfulness . This man Lukas Reilly got to experience an encounter of a lifetime
They're definitely playful but I'm not sure they give a shit about humans being more intelligent than they are. If you're in their ocean and they're hungry, your big brain isn't worth much.
I agree, there are no known attacks on humans in the wild; only in captivity out of frustration but there are no known attack in the wild yet I can see his apprehension when it look like it was going to bite the board but also more power to the whale in showing it wasn't meaning harm when it left when it could have easily carried on an attack if that would have been its intent. I also think it was trying to be playful and left when it didn't feel welcome. What intelligent and sensitive animals!
I wish I could see these creatures up close as well. Sadly, Orca's are no where I live.;(

Apparently killer whales are picky when it comes to food, just like humans are. There have been very few reported attacks by wild killer whales on humans, and none of those attacks have been fatal. Only captive killer whales have killed humans, and that has been out of frustration, not hunting instinct. Orcas are a highly intelligent species, they know the difference between a human and a seal.

The problem is that these animals are realy intelligent and curious, and so they are not afraid of humans. Most humans are just surprised, because these kind of interaction with the nature is new for them.
Like any wild predator, an orca could be a danger, but only if the human provoces them, or hurts them. Then they just defend them self.

Orcas and dolphins are both part of a larger taxonomic group known as toothed whales.
order - cetacean. family - dolphinidae.
the parvorder is highly irrelevant most of the times as is not one of the major groups of classification (kpcofgs); especially when the family is more explicit of the phenotype of a species. when referring to the group of orcas and dolphins you simply say dolphins (or at least specify toothed wales) because "whales" refers to an entirely different taxonomic group.

Duck Bro I haven’t heard a single document about killer whale attack human in the while, very rare sight indeed.
Orcas are so brilliant. They know exactly how to swim alongside a human without knocking them over. I had an experience with orcas once in Cabo Mexico and we were on a boat and a pod of orcas was swimming along the boat at the same speed, almost as if it was a race to them and they were having fun. When the boat slowed down so did the orcas and then they surrounded the boat for a minute idk if they were trying to check it out maybe they were just curious and shortly after they submerged under water and disappeared. It almost felt like they were saying “hello”
yeah what I believe happens is that the juveniles initiate the curiosity and the adults go into standby mode until their youngsters are satisfied. it could also just be a "teaching" experience for them. an opportunity for the matriarch. This is probably why these experiences are not more common.
They were probably hoping someone was going to throw them some fish.

Juvenile for sure! Very curious. But they’re so smart it knew exactly what it was. It knew he wasn’t a seal or some sort of food. They’re not stupid. So many people are thinking she bite the board it didn’t bite anything! Simply swimming right by him that would be an awesome encounter!! I’d be happy about it. I’ve seen a couple of kids in a cove swimming and like four Orcas came right by them. The parents are yelling from up above stay calm, stay calm. Orca: henlo food?
Man: (with accent) I'm higher on the food chain! *Smacks with paddle*
The first time I went kayaking in the ocean an orca family swam alongside us breaching relatively close to the kayaks. I’m terrified of the ocean but I love the hell out of some whales and dolphins, they just seem so peaceful granted you’re not a seal. I stuck my hand in and the bigger of the three swam up to it within inches and I didn’t reach for it or anything but the tail and my hand did touch. One of the best times of my life, I’ve never seen a wild orca since then even on multiple whale sighting trips. Orcas are simply the king of the ocean and idk why they don’t demolish humans in the water considering the fact they’re cold blooded seal murderers, but I’m thankful they don’t!
We are not "food" to them. Even though divers in wetsuits may look like a seal they know the difference!
Probably because we are not water species. They eat only water species. They are smart. Magnificent. When you see them, you show/pay respect.
It’s actually only a few small pods of orcas that go after mammals (seals, sea lions, whales, dolphins, etc) and they’re called transients. Most orcas (aka residents) only eat fish and squid :)
You're lucky to be alive dude. Those are some of the smartest assassins in the sea.
not really because when have you ever heard of a Orca attacking people
Offend In Every Way
That’s the only reason why that dude is alive. Killer whales are ultra smart.
If it wanted him dead then he would be dead and he wouldn’t even know about it.
he's good. They don't like the taste of our meat. In fact, the most documented cases of orca attacks, upon a human, are those kept in captivity.
But I do agree a comment above. That it is just a statistic until we become one. Never know right....
then go and try petting a lion. he will shit you out next morning. Predators kill. Period
Uttamjeet Singh a lion is totally different then an orca
Checking to see if surfboard was meat.
"Nope, plastic. I'll be on my way."
This has to straight up be the most terrifying experience ever
Seriously? You haven’t seen Australian crocs or sharks near paddle boards.
@@teeanahera8949 killer whales eat ships
The Orca was such a show off in the end! It just zoooped through the water 🐋
Where a whale belongs; not in a bathtub at sea world
Orca
B B sᴅғᴜ
Actually, it’s a dolphin
Dolphin. And pretty soon, orcas won't be able to live in the oceans because we're polluting them and overfishing them too much.
Sea world hasnt had killer whales for a while now. Apparently when that killer whale pulled its trainer into the water and ate her for about 20 minutes in front of hundreds of people it was bad for business.
I would have kissed my ass goodbye, farted and then fainted into the Orca's mouth.
Hot Sauce LMAO!!!
Had it been me, I would've just jumped in its mouth to save the trouble.
Hahaha. An epic end
Actually, Wild Orcas have not been recorded to ever bring harm to humans...Ever!
Captive Orcas like Tilikum on the other hand...
That nervous laugh at the end "Huhuuh hu Hu" good stuff
If this Orca would know what we humans do to them in Sea World...
Ever heard of Marineland? They have more than one and not even 1/3 the size of SW. Sea World stopped BREEDING THEM in captivity. They have enough Orca's in captivity for another 80 years before they're all dead.
Listen and believe, no I will not!
Sea world has taken perfectly happy orcas from the wild and have captured them and put them in tiny tanks to abuse them. Does that sound nice to you? Sea world is the one killing orcas and it seems like you support them.
We humans? Majority of us want them out. WE can’t do anything about it, it’s not our fault. It’s THEIR fault
Listen and believe, no I will not! Yet we keep breeding them. Dumbass. It’s immoral to keep such an animal in a bathtub.
Dude, you need to watch Free Willy.
The way it majestically swims away with such speed, and disappears is amazing to me for some reason
The orca just want to say hi
Exactly what I was thinking
Jesse Jonas they will mess u up bruh
It could've killed him right there on the spot. But luckily they are peaceful creatures and it wasn't hungry or provoked
Probably or it accidentally thought it was a sea lion to eat and it freaked me out a bit but they're so cute as well
Pablo Sanchez orca are not peaceful creatures they are deadly
Good Evening: Feeling so grateful that orcas find us more amusing than edible.
Him: “haha”
Also him: 💩
アザラシやん食べよ!

間違えたわ人間やった
だからシャチが人間に近づいてくるんだぞ
That's so freaking awesome but I'd be shitting myself!!!!
Somewhy the whale ran away....
Orca: Ok I see a silhouette up there, need to check it out to see if it’s food or not.
Human: 😳
Orca: Ahh, human. Understandable, have a nice day sir.
Orca later: Humans are way more trouble than they’re worth to be food.
ua-cam.com/video/w86rotpPU1Q/v-deo.html .,.,
the orcas already know what it is before they see it though, I doubt he was looking for food
It's a baby male orca! So cute
Azuki B not cute at all, that could of killed him in a few seconds, probably the most dangerous water animals
Harry Debenham they’re actually not they’re known not to commonly attack humans unless aggravated they are curious animals and probably just wanted to know what he was doing out there
No, it's not
With a mouth big enuff to bite you in half. They EAT BLUE WALES for goodness sake.
Olivia Hague Because their apex predators. Dumbass
That dude deserves an award for big balls of the century!
That smile at the end of the vid is priceless!
That guy : hey
Orca: I was just joking
at the end the killer whale was totally like "hey my mom just called, dinners ready, gotta go byeeeeeeee" hahahaha great vid
The much hyped Orca vs. Paddleboard fight fight ends in disappointment as the board was disqualified for use of a human.
Dude: Heyy!!
Orca: I am not hungry.
This is true. He could die.

Orca: hey white boy, I heard you like Sea World
That's what I was looking for
Wow
Maxwell Smart_086 You’re the life of the party I’d bet.

m.ua-cam.com/video/jOTfp_l2TP0/v-deo.html
hey human boy, i know how you looked at that dolphin ;)
Orca “calm down Joe, just checking out your new board, sheesh…”
he probably mistook the paddleboard for a seal, he disappeared quickly once he got to know it was not food.
damage0311 they're not stupid... she was just curious. (It's a she- males have tale straight dorsal fins.)
shaylen sanders the main reason for orca attacks on people is that we look so similar to seals/sea lions. To orcas, the mistake is all too easy to make. They're not people, they don't use reasoning in the same way we do.
They have larger, more developed brain then we do.
Frank Bruner yes but they don't think in the way that we do. They can and do easily mistake people for sea lions because there's so much similarity, and their eyes aren't as developed as ours
@@nightlizard8595 lol they don't only use their eyes they are dolphins they have sonar like detection. She knee it wasn't a seal they sound completely different
