That thing sounds amazing. I found an original Ross back in 2002 that I always left on in my rig. This thing sounds like it could do that but so much more. Great demo.
As all the comments are saying, that intro piece was simply amazing! Love the way it alternates between a jazz-fusion feel to the straight-ahead country section with blistering chick’n pick’n soloing! This is probably the best-sounding compressor I’ve ever heard.
Two compressor demos back to back, wow! I do love me some compression on the board. Thank you Shawn for giving us a look at both the J-Rockett and Wampler in depth, and for the endless chicken pickin chops it will take me weeks to figure out!
Just mounted my Airchild on my board. So happy that Shawn has done this video as I will use it as a guide for tweaking mine. Shawn, as always, incredible playing and informative content!
That jazzy lead line was really inspiring! Took time last evening to learn it and that will definitely be in my regular rotation of noodling licks. Great writing and playing, and great review!
Thank you, Shawn. I've been having the compressor blues lately. A Fairchild plugin is always a reliable weapon/comfort on recordings. Would be nice to approach that sound on the pedalboard.
top stuff Shawn buddy !!! & love that Tuttle T style ! & superb Fairchild 660 in pedal format from Jay & Chris !!! ...& a lot lighter than my 660 too !... 😁
While this demo sounds great, I'd like to learn what technical resemblance this pedal has with an actual Fairchild. The real thing runs at high voltage, weights 30 kg and contains ten vacuum tubes, two transformers etc. There's nothing on the Rockett website how they've chosen to mimic the behaviour of the circuit.
I wasn’t expecting me to be overexcited about another compressor pedal, but this one absolutely sounds like something I would love to have on my pedalboard. Wonderful sound! And combined with your killer chops, what more could I wish for? 😊❤
I have a 4 knob compressor on my board and I love it! I need to give this a try and check it out sometime! thanks Shawn for the demo and always such tasty licks! Love your playing! Also, if you do not mind me asking, what is that black guitar hanging in the background, with the white scratchplate and one white soapbar looking pickup? thanks
So does the threshold work backwards from other compressors? Usually when you turn up the threshold, less of the signal gets compressed because the "threshold" that signal has to exceed is higher. This looks like it works the other way around.
It is a simple solid-state emulation of a very complicated, old-school, cost no object device using tubes for every active stage. It obviously does not share a single component. Every compressor has a transfer curve that defines its ‘action’. A scrupulous emulation will try to duplicate that curve for every setting of pertinent controls. This pedal has chosen a single curve for practicality. I have o.g. and software versions of a number of UREI comp/lims and I’d say Waves, for example, has emulated them very well. Well enough, in fact, that I’m selling the outrageously valuable hardware units. The hardware is far more finicky and inconsistent from one unit to the next. I have four 1176LN, maintained and aligned to ‘perfection’, and the knob positions to achieve an identical sound are comically different, and they are never truly identical. The CLA76 emulation is very usable, with serious attention given to the knee shapes that make the 1176 such a great companion to guitar and voice. I chimed in here with the intent to answer, not further frustrate, you. The Fairchild 660/70 was designed for lacquer cutting and radio transmitter limiting, miles away from what we see here. It’s even possible this peddle is a better sound than a 660 for its intended use. Maybe someone on UA-cam will compare the pedal with a plug-in emulation?
wow that compressor really thins out the tone. that was a tasty demo tune a little jazzy fusion with a step into the country twang steve morse would love as do i. still prefer the marshall compressor pedal
Hey Shawn. Fabulous playing as always. You know… I’m starting to think this whole guitar thing might actually pay off Man. Just one guy talking here but… 😊
Fantastic playing as usual Shawn, the compressor sounds great. I have a few considerations for J.Rockett though: I can understand how it can be possible to "recreate" an 1176 or an opto comp in a pedal, maintaining the signature sonic features of those styles of compressors, but to claim that a Fairchild, which has maybe more than 10 tubes (the 660) and weighs 60 lb, might be a bit too optimistic? I have the doubt that this might be just be a "marketing" thing. And of course, if it's aimed at guitar players and it's a studio inspired product, it HAS to have Marconi style knobs (Neve), doesn't matter what the Fairchild has. Sorry for the rant, the pedal sounds really cool, but the concept behind it doesn't convince me 100%. Have a great day :)
Between the Wampler Ego76 and the Airchild, which do you feel is the best overall of the two. I’m interested in using it on bass, guitar and acoustic guitar. Help

If you ever decide to make a video course highlighting the way you play outside lines, I’d definitely buy it. Just so good. I could listen all day. 😊
yes! agree
I literally can not play anything you play
Thanks so much! I do have a course that covers a great deal of my ideas. www.soundslice.com/store/demolition-guided-tour/

I’m calling it the stepchild 😂🔥
Dude that intro track was amazing
Okay. Wtf. That intro song was incredible. I already know I’m def gonna revisit this video just for that intro jam. DAMN.
That intro track was rad!

Right on man. A wonderful intro track. 👏

Shawn that intro piece was sweet!
Came For The Pedal But Realy Enjoying The Music And Tones. Awesome!
just from the look of the knobs this reminds me of a furman pq3
Great (and thorough) run-through! Thanks!
I dig it, Great demo Shawn!
top stuff Shawn buddy !!! & love that Tuttle T style ! & superb Fairchild 660 in pedal format from Jay & Chris !!! ...& a lot lighter than my 660 too !... 😁
The country picking part was awesome. Kind of reminds me of Cupid's Got a Shotgun. =D

Sounds great Shawn. Your playing and the pedal.
Thanks Tom, I hope you're doing well!
Rockett your sweetened sounds to the forefront with this comp.

Great tones and great playing. The LsL guitars always jump out as amazing sounding, the Tuttle sounds killer here as well.
Thanks very much!!
Huh. You can actually hear how nice it is on this phone. That's cool. I love Revolver and Fairchild so this is cool.
Some pretty slick licks there buddy. Great lines! 😎🤓
Thanks!!
I just LOVE compressors. 🥰 it’s the “more” l tend to gravitate to. A great boost is also nice but ouch compressors are fun.
Super good, as always!
cool tune dude!
Shawn I really dig the music you created! Super cool! Just off tilt enough for my likings.
That intro was awesome. Sounded a little jimmy herring ish.
this guy gets it
Thanks, yeah I think you're right. I was actually channeling Albert Lee and Brad Paisley.
No bass demos anywhere.

Great demo and playing - thanks! What’s the best way to think of the differences between this and the new Wampler compressor?
The Airchild is more open but won't clamp down as fast as the Wampler.
Tops!

Haha, thanks so much!
What amp are you using ? It sounds so good already without the compresser pedal...
Suhr Bella
Can this be used with Vocal mics also?

Just put an original Fairchild on your board. Problem solved.
the 660 didn't actually use all 10 tubes at once, i believe only one of the tubes was used in any type of path that would affect sound
@@obsoletecd-rom for a mere $20K or so....and then yes, problem solved 😁
Still, they were in the circuit, the compressor behaves in a certain way because of them. Same thing for the transformers.
@@obsoletecd-romI think you might be missing my point mate

The Airchild sounds and feels a bit more open to me but has less "squish". The Ego 76 sounds less transparent but will "compress" more.
What would be your pick between the airchild and keeley compressor plus
I don't have any experience with the Keeley compressor plus. Sorry.
Seems like bad timing to have great demos and no product in stores! Not shipping for 3 weeks
What is this black guitar you are playing on?
Eastman Romeo NYC.
Is this an analog comp or a dsp modeled comp?
Analog.
How’s the noise floor?
Wondering the same.
It seems pretty quiet even at extreme settings.
