I bought that Hart set a while back so that I would have every size I could ever need. After a while, I started feeling sick about buying a budget brand. I used a socket to drive a concrete anchor and it held up just fine, and I started feeling better about the purchase. This review makes me feel so much better. I will never use a cheater bar, so now I know that the ratchets and sockets will hold up perfectly well for my weekend warrior needs. Thanks for doing this!

Honestly don't feel bad about buying budget tools. It's all about what your using it for. If you're doing little tasks around the house, then budget tools are fine. If you're a mechanic, stay away from budget tools. I buy Harbour Freight tools for home which are cheap tools, but for work I buy higher end tools. It all depends on what you need the tool for.

I still have most of my Stanley tools, I bought a big kit years ago and work in automotive full time, if the quality is still good I think theyre good tools, I make a living using them along with Mastercraft and Husky as well. If you use almost any kind of ratchet correctly not abusing it you won't break it.

Nice comparison.. good to see they are decently built. And great I'd you need a set of tools in a hurry.
Harbor Freight sells a really nice 301 mechanic tool set. SKU 63464, 63457

the thing that I found with that particular kit is it has far more useful tools in it than a lot of these kits.

I thought this test and demonstration was great. As you said, and I hope that people don't treat ANY of their tools like this. I do want to point out that tooth count does play into the strength of a rachet so I would expect the hart to fail first but honestly I think that most those tool kit tools are all just about the exact same regardless if you get craftsman, husky, kobalt,Stanley, hart, etc. And I betting if you got two more of the the exact same kits you would probably get different results. My takeaway from this video is pick the kit that more tools that are useful to you .someone mentioned craftsman and kobolt kits and sayed there only 99 buck for mor prices but if in a 200 + piece kit half the tools are useless to you then and th 150 dollar set all the tools are useful for you then it is a better value when I was look at tool kits last I almost got the craftsman then realized that like 70 pieces were driver bits and I would never use any of those.

pretty neat test and results , With Stanley and those sold at Walmart its a matter of timing because it appears that they constantly are changing factories in different parts of the World who can manufacture the quality and price range the retailer needs them to be at i purchased a 1/4” set from Walmart about 10 years ago and its been a great ratchet set ! i found out that it just so happened to be the sane factory in China that built Snap On branded tools at that time frame Although i never tested them to failure like you do in the video i will add that the set i own has been used often with pretty good results

The part they don't show here is that the screws literaly fall out of the Stanley ratchets. Then the head falls apart. I tried tightening them but the head of the ratchet is literaly made so you can't. The ratchet won't even spin long before the screws are even tight. It literaly took a hour to lock tite the screws in one of mine. Mostly because you have to keep messing with the tension on the screws to get it to work right. So no matter if there stronger or not Stanley ratchets are junk. If you don't beleive me get a get a tourqs bit and tighten the screws. It won't turn guaranteed. The plate will actually be bent bowed when you take it off afterwords.

I use craftsman tools daily! The old and new get the job done. I haven't had to trade them in at Lowe's yet, but Sears always switched it over without question. Now if Lowe's does their warranty different, I may change brands.

I had to buy a hart socket set from walmart to change a door latch one day in the parking lot.
Had to take it right back in, the teeth were stripped new in the box.
The second one is doing ok. But like my gear wrench, it doesn't feel like it would hold up like a snap-on.

I'm surprised; I had a Stanley set in my truck (older set non-quick release ratchet, regular 12 pt sockets) and I managed to break both 1/4" & 3/8 ratchet at least twice in normal use.
I gave the set away and my friend replaced the ratchets with Tekton ones and he's very happy with it.
From you video it appears Stanley has improved the ratchets greatly, though I'm not a fan of spline drive sockets. I might consider either set as a set to keep in the truck.

While i find this interesting the sample size of one tool per band means it's meaningless really they all met the standard for what they were intended to do.I've only broken the anvil on one tool and it was a1/2 inch breaker bar with a 4 foot cheater on it I was jumping on it to loosen a axle nut took it back to the auto parts store were I bought it and they gave me a new one.I have bent a cheap 1/2 ratchet wrench i still have it ,and it still works.

Definitely not waste of time. It tests the tensile strength of material and how the teeth and gear hold up. I have a few of the craftsman ratchet that the internal parts fail and won't lock, thinking about going to sear but also don't like their handle design and thinking about getting other brand. Ratchet more likely to be broken of the internal parts (spring, teeth and gear) from worn out over time.

I've bought the black Stanley's and they disassembled themselves in my hands. My previous regular chrome Stanley set would switch between forward and backwards randomly while using it. Extremely disappointed and I will never by stanley, or anything stanley black and decker, if I have a choice. I have a hart set and the switch lever is solid and has no intentions of self destruction. Much more pleased

    1/4 ratchets are rated for like 3,4 - 18 ft/lbs. why would anyone give a care about one breaking at 50 ft/lbs -v- 75 ft/lbs.?
    3/8'' rate from around 10-80 ft/lbs and 1/2'' 30 - 150, 200 ft/lbs or so.
my point is any of these do the job they are designed for. if you have to use a cheater bar the tool is not being used for its intended purpose.

I picked up a small 3/8th hard set in a small blue & white box & there 3/8th & 1/2in extendable ratchets that once extended ya wont need a cheater bar & at 90t there real heavy duty but you gotta check out there self adjusting hart channel locks 8" or 10" they have a real good feel plus are super this & get into places normal channel locks wouldn't fit..but last but not least there hart 1" chisel is unbelievable made out of a single piece of steel & for under $10 ok man keep up the great video's

Think I have a Stanley kit and have had no issues and think this is a weird test as many of those should never be used to the torques you are putting them thru in normal use most times you would be using a breaker bar or a electric ratchet to undo a bolt that tight.
