This info isn't entirely true. It depends on the switch. Sometimes you need a green and an amber light to show that you are getting 1000mbps & PoE as well. There are a bunch of variances. You have to lookup your specific switch capabilities to ensure you are correct. 99 times out of 100 your hard wired connection will be faster but not always. Also, most laptops will automatically default to the hard wired connection but not always. Also, cat5 ethernet patch cables aren't capable of 1000mbps nor proper PoE. So be aware of the patch cables you buy.
Its also possible that the ethernet cables in the walls are a couple decades old, and replacing that would simply need a full renovation, especially with concrete walls. I know for example that i saw at my parents house from the main router there was a cat3 ethernet cable running to somewhere (i didn't know to where) and they simply do not care enough to break open the concrete and plaster walls for it, they also don't have ethernet connections in like ⅔ of the house. That's quite a bunch of information, am just doing courses on grid networking basics & gonna do other advanced courses on networking thanks for the knowledge ❤
Except for the super rare case of stock market companies, who dont use wired connections or fiber optics for long distances cause the speed of light in air is like slightly faster.
have seen this issue many times about 6 years ago, for some reason they were using older CaT cables then what the customer had and all i had to d was replace the cable with a step higher i possible to make sure they were getting what they had paid for. Always make sure your CAT cable is at least what is recommended. I like higher but that is just me.
Sometimes it can be a wifi box problem. Our upgraded T-Mobile box started shutting down when we used both of its lan ports at the same time. We now have starlink and don't have this issue.
So i took a look at the port where my Ethernet cable is plugged in, one side of it is blinking green and the other is solid orange. What does this mean
My dad did this by accident. Motherboard's ethernet jack was dead and needed an addon card, but the card always bottlenecked at around 250 mbps, and i couldnt figure out why.....until I decided to pull it out and found out he had ordered a PCI ethernet card, not a PCI-E, an older PCI card. His computer at the time had the slots, but ya, that was the problem. 1 PCI-E ethernet card later, and it worked great.
Hello bro, I’ve been a subscriber of yours for a long time and love your videos. I use my M2 Air MacBook every day, but I need a Windows laptop for my projector. I’ll also use it for other light tasks. If you can suggest a PC, I’ll consider it, but I’m more likely to buy a laptop. Your suggestions would really help me decide!
It can happen with the latest WiFi 7 standards of multi gigabit speeds, whilst Ethernet may be limited to say, 1Gbps. Newer devices will have 2.5Gbps Ethernet ports or 10Gbps Ethernet ports, but sometimes not. So it can be possible - we started seeing even WiFi 6E break the gigabit barrier and most Ethernet devices are still gigabit or slower.
Not entirely true if they have an newer wifi card and their motherboard is older well yes it's slower. So if you're wifi is faster use wifi if it's Ethernet use Ethernet. But check to see if there are problems woth the cable or router or motherboard or lan adapter whatever you use.
another potential issue is you could be plugged into your network extension, ive done that and had to also connect wifi while plugged in to the extension.
Also to help this guy, I had a problem where my ethernet was slower because I laid the cable myself and when I put a new 'head' on mixed up 2 of the small coloured cables and apparently it will still work just slower :/

Their house is 28 years old btw
As a computer engineering student, this hurts my soul
Yeah this happens to me, my WiFi is 300-400 mbps while Ethernet is 70-100, always assumed it was the cable.
Wifi bottleneck? Nah im going back to the stone age to tell the flintstones
My wifi is faster than my ethernet, because I don't have ethernet cables installed in my house. Lol.
In Romania... The standard 2.5G connection offered by providers... Have only gigabit ports and wifi 7... So this is true :))
"My router is faster than my Ethernet" my brother in christ, the router handles the Ethernet too.
Sometimes it can be a wifi box problem. Our upgraded T-Mobile box started shutting down when we used both of its lan ports at the same time. We now have starlink and don't have this issue.
You're probably using a lower category like cat5e You probably at least should be at cat6a and up
100 Mbps is 4 times faster than my Internet speed and twice what I can make any reasonable use of, and Zach calls it old.
The only bottleneck i have is my internet service provider 😂
I’m currently on a tight budget and need a laptop that can smoothly run PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Google Sheets, and handle basic internet browsing without any lag. I’ll also use it for other light tasks. If you can suggest a PC, I’ll consider it, but I’m more likely to buy a laptop. Your suggestions would really help me decide!
You just made me realize my ethernet has a problem ive had that yellow bink for about a year now
Saw you on Gamersnexus justifying the renting NZXT PC. GG
I am using usb to Ethernet for laptop and i get same speed in both. And when i use Ethernet i get packet loss and ping issues in games.
How do I convince my parents to buy me an AULA F65
Do you guys have a fast thumb drive that has all of the benchmarks so you don’t have to install them on your customers pc?
probly faster than a certain pc rental service
My internet says I should be getting around 40 megabytes a second id download speed, but I only get between 1-5 megabytes. Sometimes even lower.
Check the cable. It’s probably 4 wires instead of 8. Which means it restricts the max speed to 100mbps
Not entirely true if they have an newer wifi card and their motherboard is older well yes it's slower. So if you're wifi is faster use wifi if it's Ethernet use Ethernet. But check to see if there are problems woth the cable or router or motherboard or lan adapter whatever you use.
I’m a low voltage tech and 90% of the time it’s not the cable but they always think it’s the cable.
another potential issue is you could be plugged into your network extension, ive done that and had to also connect wifi while plugged in to the extension.
Also to help this guy, I had a problem where my ethernet was slower because I laid the cable myself and when I put a new 'head' on mixed up 2 of the small coloured cables and apparently it will still work just slower :/
Took me quite some time to diagnose this problem 😅
I agree
Wifi : 170 mbps
Cable : 990 mbps ?!
Also check in your network interface card settings to make sure the duplexes set to full duplex and not auto negotiate
Newbie prebuilt baby here: IT HAS LIGHTS?!
