  • Painting models with a brush isn't some ancient arcane art that's physically impossible to master, despite what the whinging of airbrush users may lead you to believe. Join me as I show you the 5 steps to getting a perfect finish with just regular hairy sticks, as well as give you a bit of life advice along the way. It's really not that difficult, innit?

I brush paint with tamiya acrylics and they brush really good, and I actually thin them with water. And no this is not a cruel prank. You have to thin them a lot and let the paint dry for at least 1h. between coats. I even find Vallejo, AK, Revell aqua more difficult to work with than Tamiyas XF series. For brushes I use mostly squirrel hair brushes (synthetic or real) they are super fine and soft, they are designed to work with thin paints. This is of course my personal preference. Cheers!

For many years I painted with an airbrush, but one day I had to deliver a model for a birthday as a surprise gift and the airbrush played a bad trick on me. From that moment on I paint with a brush and as you say in your video you have to learn from your mistakes. With my technique and my brushes I achieve the same effects as with an airbrush. Also, painting with a brush takes less time cleaning than with an airbrush. Congratulations on your channel and work.

That's funny, I use Tamiya acrylics all the time, and they work great. Maybe you're doing something wrong.

Thank you for sharing; Is the Model "primered" before the first layer of Acrylic Paint?

For the main stuff definitely, for smaller bits and pieces it's not really worth the effort imo. I tend to use vallejo's primer which is still pretty fragile but better than nothing; if you're willing to do some masking a spray primer like tamiya (or even rustoleum 2x as demonstrated on my f-14 build) will make your paint layers much more resilient.

@@HellfireModels Thank you kindly. My concern is more so for a good layer that the Acrylic Paint can "bite" into versus resiliency; Your time and insight is greatly appreciated.

Hi buddy. This was a interesting video apart from the unnecessary swearing. I,m a Londoner so I can swear like a Docker but I don,t think thats its appropriate here. Imagine that there is some youngster wanting to learn about painting models and then they hear this. I,m afraid to say that you should know better and you are sullying the hobby with this language. Please refrain from doing this, please.
