Witgon "My Grandfather" an Omaha short documentary

- This is a documentary I did for my Personal Documentary class during the fall semester of 2011 at the Institute for American Indian Arts.
This is my grandfather Leon Grant. One of the last fluent speaking Omaha's left that can speak the old way of the language.
Natitiani, I need to share some information with you. I was formerly married to an Omaha man. His Father was Victor Robinson Sr. & his Mother/Ina is Genieve Robinson. Victor Sr. has been long deceased now. He was from the Hunga Clan. & a WWII Veteran in the Japan Theater. He told me that the Grants are his first cousins. Anyway my Ex-In-Law Genieve speaks fluent Omaha. She is still alive. She lives near her two older adult children in the Senior home. (I have two adult children from him who are related to you . I love this story of Our Lakota Oyate came to visit the Omaha. It is a good one. I love how Omaha showed Us their War Dances too. It is so beautiful.
I am a grant. I never knew these people. My grandfather is Loren Grant and my Grandmother was Niomi Grant. I know we hold grudges. I don't remember you.
I love your video. This was very similar what happen to my tribe. Nux7swaq "always bracket fern" our tribe was just a little smaller than yours in the beginning. stretching from Canada to the edges of what now is Skagit. We didnt fight the government. And where not recognized until the 70s becuase we refused to combind tribes with the Lummi Nation. So touching. Reminds me of my great grandpa becuase he loved horses too. He fought in ww2. Reminds me of stories I was told. Thanks again for the video.

I am new to learning about my tribe. I was born and raised in the city however, i have a huge desire to get to know where i come from and educate myself on things i need to know. it really hurts my heart to see negative comments on here. Makes me want to ask how much those individuals are contributing to keep traditions alive or how much of the language do they know and pass on to their own?
