Brian May wrote this song specifically for the 1986 movie HIGHLANDER, Queen were asked by the director Russell Mulcahy to do one song for the movie and ended up doing the whole soundtrack and made a huge difference for the film
The song was a bout a fictional character called Connor MacLeod (The Highlander) who was born in 1518 and never aged beyond ~30 years. This might sound incredible, but he had fallen in love over and over and watched his loved ones age and die over and over. All he wanted by this stage was to be able to grow old and die himself. Amazing movie BTW with an amazing soundtrack by Queen.
Roger Taylor has a great voice too.. i love the live version of 'somebody to love' recorded in Montreal, Roger's vocals are brilliant and, best of all, playing drums while singing.
The live version of the song is also stunning. Freddie is absolutely magic in front of stadium crowds, both Wembley and Budapest in their last tour in 1986! Brian plays keyboard and switches to guitar. ua-cam.com/video/SwKM8HA82t0/v-deo.html
Dropped in for Queen-enjoyed your reaction very much-hardly boring at all! Bonus points for the Tony Gwynn shirt. Dr. May wrote this song in the back of a taxi in about 15 minutes. Yeah. the great ones always make it look easy. RIP Freddie.
You sure you’re not thinking of ‘39? Despite John being shown with a double bass in this video, I’m pretty sure the bass you hear is an electric bass, and he didn’t get involved in the orchestral stuff. But apparently he did learn to play a double bass for ‘39.
@@viviennerose6858 Look up 39 John plays double bass Look this up then under personal John does not perform on this at all Brian gets muddled up sometimes
Time for you two to watch the sci-fi fantasy film "Highlander" - from 1986. Queen were asked to do one song for the film, and, the little over-achievers did seven of them instead. Their music really helps the film along. The film never released the actual movie score, instead Queen released the music in their own album, "A Kind Of Magic". And it ended up being their final tour as well. (Roger and Brian both have solo songs on Queen albums, you just haven't done them yet).
Brian May wrote this song as part of the soundtrack for Highlander. Brians songs are always deep and meaningful and i love his voice. You should listen to Adam Lambert sing this song at the isle of wight festival 2016. If you want to listen to Brian May, listen to the song he sings as a solo called Too Much Love can Kill You. Just beautiful.
To hear Roger sing, try listening to their Montreal 81 concert...Im in love with my car!! That's Roger singing. Brian sang in the group too....try 39 or Good Company...Roger and Brian sung many songs on albums from 73 to date. A good one from Brian is Too much love will kill you. Also sung by Freddie.
Brian and Roger sing lead on a few Queen album tracks. They each have solo albums, as well. You should react to the “Highlander” movie. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONEl”
Who waits forever, anyway? I love Brian's voice. It's a beautiful, sweet voice. The album version of "'39" is one of my favorite Brian songs; it's a science fiction song that he wrote and sang lead on (album, FM sang lead in live versions). Never underestimate Brian and Roger vocal performances; yes, FM is the GOAT, but BM and RT are brilliant, as well.
Most of the songs written for the film Highlander were released on the Album "A Kind of Magic" in 1986 (an unofficial soundtrack) . This video was made in September 1986 before Freddie was officially diagnosed with Aids, but he was already displaying symptoms and had been since 1982 so he probably knew. Which makes the song so much more relevant and potent. The film is great by the way, if you haven't seen it yet (apart from the accents). I believe there is a remake planned for 2026 with Henry Cavill where they are hoping to use the original songs
I know you guys have a rule - like so many reactors do - about only hearing a song if you haven’t heard it before/only reacting to a song once… With Queen, tho, there’s ALSO the factor that - whenever they performed a song live, they ALWAYS “reworked” the song/altered it in various ways, so that live audiences would have a DIFFERENT experience from just hearing the same studio track. (They also altered/“tweaked” things from one live show to another, so if someone attended different shows they would have a different experience… Then, add in Freddie’s unscripted ad libs on top of that!) Anyway, my point is: If you’ve heard one version of a given Queen song - the studio version, for example - maybe consider also reacting to a live version, as well… because they’re always TOTALLY different.🖖
When Queen recorded the video "Breakthru" which the band is seen playing on top of a train, he was that seriously ill it took a real long to record it as he was lethargic due to his ill health.....that was the last video Freddie recorded, he passed away 2 yrs later. RIP Freddie.
As part of the highlander sound track ( a film about immortals ) and true love lol! It fit the perfect song . So Nick i've the choice would you A ,live forever or B Fall deeply and irrevocably In love . lol! Chose carefully Jodie's watching.
It's probably Brian May's best song (he also wrote We Will Rock You and The Show Must Go On BTW ), but I think the movie edit video works better in terms of the song's meaning. Who Wants was written for a movie to back a montage of an immortal's life with his first love at her death. The film is really good as well. HIghlander. It's currently rumoured being remade so watch the original because they'll probably make Macleod a woke icon and have them throwing handbags rather than decapitating to gain the prize! (That will make sense if you watch it!)
Do t wanna disappoint your buddy there but may was actually miming it was Freddy singing the whole thing. There were other songs where random people looked like they were singing but it was Freddy. They used to do that a lot in the 80s and 90s. Other bands in videos or even today if video telling a story and use the public.
Brian song But he wouldn't have been able to sing it all the way through He doesn't have the same power as Freddie And wouldn't have been able to manage the difficulty Brian has a few songs he cant sing himself!

Highlander has the best movie soundtrack ever.
Great song one of the greatest masterpiece by queen and freddie vocals out of this word full emotions love your reactions❤
Queen isn’t Queen, without the four of them. They just become one in their music.
Written by Brian May in a back of a taxi for the film Highlander. I love the live version at Wembley as well. Check it out great reaction x
Brian May has a PhD in Astrophysics that he earned in 2007 at Imperial College London. Obviously a very intelligent guy.
Some say IQ 180 --and he is knighted by the Queen - so he is now sir Brian May, Ph.D.
Oh what a great song! Written by the Guitarist Brian May (who sings in the beginning) for the Movie Highlander. Great reaction video!
Queen is the only band that all members wrote number 1 hits and each one of them each wrote multiple number 1 hits.
Every mèmber of Queen is awesome, they all wrote songs& their harmonies are incredible! Brian May/lead guitarist wrote this.
Imagine being immortal, you love someone who is not& you have to watch them grow old and die. That's the meaning.
Roger and Brian also sang lead in queen songs. You should catch this song live at Wembley 86 . And try to watch more live songs.

You need to see this live at Budapest. Without the orchestra, Freddie’s passion really comes through.
That's my favourite then wembley 2nd 👍👍

And Roger solos in 'I'm in love with my car' - while drumming!

It was written by Brian May (the one singing in the beginning) and the orchestrations arranged by film composer Michael Kamen

Great song associated with Highlander , a terrific live version in the Wembley concert .
This album was incorporated into the movie Highlander , it really complimented and made that movie stand out and of the best of all time.

Though it would have been amazing even without him but his voice fits this song so well, definitely takes it over one edge.
Brian song
But he wouldn't have been able to sing it all the way through
He doesn't have the same power as Freddie
And wouldn't have been able to manage the difficulty
Brian has a few songs he cant sing himself!
I think the song would have been gorgeous with just his voice too but this particular song specially needs a power vocals, at least to the end parts.
When the song came out Freddie Mercury already knew he had AIDS that's why he made and sang this song rest in peace Freddy😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
He didn’t make it, Brian did.
