Fun. Not a fan of extra verbiage like "hand winding" I don't need to be told that if I already purchased it. Its like trucks with permanent "4X4" decals on them....why? Do you always forget what the things you own can do?
At first glance it brought back memories of the mixed 5p bags of sweets off the ice cream van as a kid for some reason, Flying Saucers and Refreshers and such like.
I thought my wife was going to think this watermelon color scheme was crazy but, surprisingly, she liked it a lot and wants one for herself. And she's quite the little fashionista. So, there's that for what it's worth.
@@watchesandcaps2566 The desert sky and sand is excellent for men. The colors remind me of old maps I used to look at when I was a child in books and national geographic magazines. The colors really brought up some great memories. So I'm sure you can guess which one I'll be ordering 👍
The watermelon’s a bit too watermelony for me! I’m not brave enough but the desert 🏜 sky is stunning 😍 I love it and I love the dimensions too! Very original at a great price
The friends who told you that they liked that watch are, in reality, conspiring to instigate an intervention and involuntary commitment on your behalf...
I've got a Zodiac Super Seawolf in the watermelon colourway and it does get lots of compliments, also cheers you up especially on a cold grey day (like today in London) I'd definitely recommend it. That desert sky one was especially nice.
Hey, love the videos! I bought a Vostok Amphibia after watching your mod video. I've so far changed the strap, bezel and bezel insert but would love to change the acrylic glass for sapphire any ideas where I can get one that fits ???
I like the craziness of the brand and the watches doesn’t look bad either. But somehow the “why so serious” becomes quite “serious” when I saw the price 😬. My opinion.
Don't know how you can expect anything less for a real mechanical chronograph. If you only want something that looks cool you can pick up any colorful fashion watch from your local mall for a hundred bucks or below.
@@dietznutz1 A genuine Seagull costs 250€. The movement itself isn’t too expensive either. They just changed the dial and name, but it’s basically a Seagull 1963.
Have you come across Steeldive? I'm about to get the Black Bay Homage from them, they are Based in Cardiff South Wales and as a Welshman I'm happy to try the brand, I've got the seagull 1963 pilot chronograph and I find it keeps pretty good time
I love the originality. I definitely think that putting the watermelon on black strap isn’t the right choice. It’s such a fun design that it contrasts extremely harshly with the serious, traditional strap. On the other hand the beige strap for blue one is pretty much perfect fit.
I'm OK with the desert sand colour variant with the colour matched strap. The watermelon colour variant stretches the friendship a little too much, although I noticed that the hour markers on this one look like the black seeds of a watermelon.
I suspect the lassie at the supermarket is a good judge of character....for me, has to be the water melon, that looks fantastic.... unfortunately I can't pick up any new pieces at the moment, seriously gutted because I'd love to rock this one....the movement is great, I have it in a Phylida "tin tin" homage....the fact that the accuracy is quiet a bit hit or miss doesn't bother me....one of my first time keeping lessons was "if you're not 5 minutes early then you're already late"....I'm very confident that this project will fly, it's a cool design, got that vintage vibe, proven movement....I just hope plenty of people jump onboard with the water melon, that has got to be the best looking colour way I've seen in a good while....I applaud your man there for gambling with this as a first offering....🏴⌚🏴⌚
I love that desert color scheme, I'd pick one up if there was a bit less wonky text all over the dial - could be a lot classier if it were cleaned up. I'll keep my eyes open for sure
I've got a Sugess ST1901 coming in today. They went for a vintage look, textured dial, 40's era tachymeter vaguely reminiscent of the Tavannes Watersport from that time period.
I literally had a Baltic Bicompax in the shopping cart, but that Desert Sky took the 'race' 🏁at the last lap just like Schumacher in his Benneton🏎️ taking the win from Alesi at the 94 Europa GP
I think the main selling point for these lovely pieces are their respective dials. Beautiful and funky color combinations... cool concept and execution. I don’t agree with your assessment of value proposition considering the mechanical chrono, however. The Höglund & Sons Mark II uses the same column wheel seagull movement and can be had for under 200... US. That’s a pretty significant markup for a splash of color and a bit nicer finishing on Studio Underdogs’ part. Hell, brands like Tissot sell AUTOMATIC mechanical Chronographs for around the 300 USD mark.
I really like the Desert Sky version, but I can't justify spending on one while sitting here wearing my Seagull 1963(thanks for the recommendation). They look like the perfect vacation/summer watch for those days when you don't intend to be in the water, and if like me you don't swim that's a lot of days!
I appreciate anything different as well but I wonder why they made a chronograph in what seems to be the style of a weekend wear. To me a chronograph is by nature a serious bit of kit which lends itself to a more serious design language. There is also a lot of writing on the dial which is a bit of an annoyance on a dial which already has a couple of complications making it a busy look. Am I nitpicking? Maybe.
Jodi, you should try and get a hold of a Merkur Pierre Paulin chronograph! They seem to have some cool Pandas for a great price (also ST-1901)! I think that would make a great review...
I actually love this color way!!! That watermelon is quite nice, plus the texture on the dial looks very watermelon-ish. Great review as always Jody!!!
You might want to look at the Alpha Daytona. It’s an homage of the Rolex Paul Newman Daytona and has the same ST19 movement, coming in at around 200USD. I would love to see your review of it. Oh, and great video (as always)!
It bothers me that for some odd reason the words on the dial look photoshopped onto the dial. Maybe it's the contrast of the colors with the material of the dial giving a "cut and paste" illusion.
Great video! I know you’ve done Stratton watches before, but I’d love to see one on the new Daily and Classic Drivers that just released. Hopefully Kyle can get your hands on some.
Hi Jody, I like it very nicely done watch would go with the blue dial myself but not at that price way to high. I have a seagull which you recommend last year, with sapphire crystal. So that will do me for now.
I always celebrate dials on different colours as the traditional black, blue or white but the combination green and watermelon looks like a Englishman high on cheap sangria in any Spanish beach during spring break. Sorry, live two years in Majorca
They're cute! I love seeing this kind of experimenting that the micros are doing and I hope it continues. The sand/blue is a very pleasant combination.

Not really liking the dial text in general (not specifically the 0). Maybe the lowercase font, the off centre placement, the movement name. Is it just me?
Sir, can you please tell me which types of leather are better for the straps, since you seem very knowledgeable. Thank you in advance. (yes, I know I can Google it, but I would like to know your opinion).
If you want a nice watch with a column wheel movement for less than $200, then check out the Alpha Daytona. A lovely homage of the Rolex Daytona from the 70s. I own the silver dial one and love it!
Love them! Nice to see something different. I love my dive watches but there is more to life. PS. Any chance of reviewing women’s automatics some day? It’s proving very hard to find a decent one for Mrs Wife, they are mostly either quartz (nothing wrong with that but she’d like an auto) or covered (ruined) in bling. Cheers!
Both are beautiful! I can’t remember the last time i liked a watch as much as these. It would be a tough choice for me, but I’m leaning towards the watermelon, kinda “wtf, I’m all in!”
Nice watch but i personally think they are way off with the price considering you can get seagull movements watches such as the "sugess" models for much cheaper IMHO
Fantastic, I would wear the watermelon no problem... once... perhaps even twice. Joking aside I think it’s great because it’s so different and not in a naff way either. I wish them all the very best, they truly deserve it. 👏👏👏
The fact that they formed the indexes on the watermelon version like melon seeds (hope that's the right word) is real attention to details. LOVE IT!
They've created a whole new genre: mechanical fruit watches!
Ah, is that what the term “biocompax” is referring to? A twin register chrono themed on organic material?
