an artist makes music, that doesnt mean he is an entertainer, he just was gracious enough to share his art. I dont think personally syd wanted to do shows or any tours or interviews or any of that i think syd just wanted to play guitar and paint in a garden. Theres alot of talk of whatever happened with him, but i like to believe he just wasnt into making money performing music over and over or trying to be on the radio or make a hit record. I think he just liked art.
I think you're absolutely right. From what I've read I have the impression he really wasn't interested in the PR side of music, and being dragged around with the band to gigs and interviews etc actually did him a lot of damage and contributed to his disintegration. His sister said that once he was out of that scene and allowed to just enjoy his art on his own, he made a significant recovery.
tjf4375 I agree, on the song 'birdie hop' he sings 'I'm the only bird, a little third I had a yearning to be earning just a dollar a day and in a way you shouldn't like it; hectrachrome plane' I think he was solely an artist first, and everything else just didn't matter as much as making art he was proud of.
Yeah after reading about him enough I got the same impression. He was probably open to the music industry to start with but quickly discovered it wasn't his thing.

Check out their early stuff! Syd is only on Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and half of Saucerful of Secrets, but there is a ton of stuff that's been released of earlier stuff they played around with prior to that, going back to 1965. Piper is 1967, Saucerful is 1968. After David Gilmour joined in 68, they created some incredible ethereal, spacy, experimental stuff. Check out Live At Pompeii, Atom Heart Mother, the soundtracks they did (More and Zabriskie Point) and the rest of what they did prior to Dark Side of the Moon. There's so much great stuff.
Fuck yeah. Im sitting here in the wee hours of the morning learning how to play this tune by ear and I can feel Syd looking at me and saying "Thats a good bit there, Mate". What an eerie fucking masterpiece this song is. And whoever plays behind him is doing some extremely cool, understated lines that really add to the tune. I can imagine the dude just looking at Syds hands the whole time trying to keep track of the chord changes which have some randomness and are complete with fuckups that you dont really hear but just add another dimension to the song. That's a real rock star there, someone who can make a fuckup sound cool and in the pocket. Imagine if this song could have gotten the whole Pink Floyd treatment... could have just been massive. i cant _not_ be sad listening to this...
I love you too Syd aka Roger Keith Barrett. My hair is on end about you too. Thanks for letting me know that you love me Syd..You are the most beautiful man in the world. Your music is magic!
I have pages of lyrics, Marisa.
Anyone listening in 2024..?
Forever and always
Yes
Syd é meu parceiro nesta quarentena CARA TINHA MUITO BRILHANTE
i just think it is a groovy sound. the sunlight is good for us. my understanding is that he is playing the telecaster without any amplification. that is how he gets that weird guitar sound. i have played electric guitars with no amp many times. but i have never mic'ed it to get that sound.
I did... when I recorded this song 😁
Not a patch on Syd though, but what do you expect? 😑
Wonderful stuffx❤️💋
Doesnt get much more stark than that does it?
RIP Syd Barrett (Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett, 6/1/1946-7/7/2006)😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I would have loved him Forever✨
"Did you ever feel like you got beat up// when all you did was wake up// then looked in the mirror and saw// dried tear streaks from your mascara make-up// All I ever wanted was a heart to call home// so why am I alone... so why am I alone// The dream of love was so much better before I'd grown// It's all very tough on me// and I'm feelin' really sore// will someone save my soul and close memory's door// All I ever wanted was heart to call home// so why am I alone... so why am I alone" ME\\\\\ “Rains of Sweet May that tickle the sea // On rose dewy dreams you’ll find all of me// In the dark blue wood willow we play// When the sky’s pink haze over laughing land lay// The blaze of brook-land feeds off absinthe green fire// Look for the pearl that sails for silver desire//// Dreaming of dreams stained veiled time// Created the weave of heart’s daring climb //// Butterfly soft your kaleidoscope kiss- Golden true eyes under lashes of mist- Golden jewel spies under splashes of wish- Orange you love all that I missed” ME
Does anyone here like his solo stuff better than what he did with Pink Floyd?
I do forsure i still like both but prefer this 100%
I love it all, but his solo stuff is haunting.
I like his solo stuff better than Pink Floyd with Glimour. Most people would disagree with me for an understandable reason but it’s something about the imperfections idk
I approach them both separately and enjoy both. You should try it.
Pink Floyd stuff was light years ahead come on
Shine on
You crazy

Have you left your bedroom, Sam??! OR are you still hiding from "Love & LIFE??!" Did you color the basement with lights and... the guitar you meant to jam? Did you trade in your suit and tie for another imagined lie? Are you a girl or boy... when will you learn about joy? Are you a girl or boy... or are you a genderless toy? Can you Zea-land from your window... or is your dream a misty row? did ur brother buy more lipstick... did he open up your door? Is there anymore?
I know you "Sam"... you live in New Zealand.
A brittle, yet gorgeous song
Love this song!
simple and beutifull album ! but i have to say it drugs ends with everybody every beautiful thing, a big up from peru to everybody that is reading this on quarantaine
There is a faster paced version of this song on the "Sights and Sounds of Pink Floyd" album that features Barret or one of the other vocalists making "puh-pah" sounds int he background similar to "Pow R Toc H" on Pipers.
The line about the fishes seems to have been referenced in the song Wish You Were Here.
sublime music
He was so lovely. At that time we were all 'drop outs', he was an artist and did not want to conform to the commerciale world.
Simply a great song.
His vibes in his solo albums are great, but on the Pink Floyd early years & the piper at the gates of dawn its just so wonderful
Well oh baby my hair’s on end about you 💜
Syd you are missed I live you
Raw and chaotic it may be...also happens to be one of my all-time favorites
The BBC Session is even better.
Haunting
75, happy b-day Syd ❤️
If your listening to this for the first time and like it I urge you to buy his first two albums which are both stonewall classics.
Im gonna be buying them on cd soon!
Whats the titles of his previous stuff ,
Would love to listen to them
Madcap Laughs 1970,Barrett 1970, Opel 1988, Relics 1971,Piper at the gates of Dawn and Pink Floyd early recordings 2016 are essential Syd Barrett.
Happy birthday Syd!
my hair's on end about you...
Hey, do you know what's the meaning of that part?
@@fuckhumans11 Hair standing on end, as goose bumps I assume.
@@63MGB1Wow, that's cool! I'll take it as a fact
