This seems like the best place to bring it up, I think the Papyrus fight exists for two reasons. The first being to show how far you are truly going and two, to remove an argument. The implication is that the monsters are attacking you up to that point and you're killing them, sure you're also hunting them down but the argument of 'self defense' is present, flimsy but present. Papyrus is there to remove that, he does not fight you, he does not hurt you, he gives you a chance to do better. Papyrus thematically I feel is the 'Last Chance' of the route. For everything you've done there is a degree of justification to it (attacked by Flowey, kill or be killed, self defense) but here? Thats no longer a position you can take.
@@gamercentral2417*especially* monster kid. Monster kid. The one who ACTUALLY never attacked you in the entire game but, instead, *helped* . @gamercentral2417 Monster Kid literally was DISRUPTED. FRISK was the one who started the fight. He even gives you a chance to forgive him. He doesn't fights back even. If you check him or waste your time doing anything that isn't fighting or using mercy, he doesn't fights back. He just waits until you make your choice. Papyrus? He literally admits that he tortures you. Implying that he wants to. And doesn't matter if his puzzles "doesn't" hurt us. He's forcing us to complete them. @@dor701 I know. And that is wrong. Frisk cannot choose if they don't remember and not the one who does True Reset. Frisk doesn't even have their own name on the save file.
@@dor701 Frisk has a personality and independent actions, opinion on things. They can even resist us sometimes. For example, even if you want to attack Undyne for real in her house, Frisk won't. The damage will be 1 always. But they're not the one who is behind making main decision for what route will be. Especially after True Pacifist ending. Someone else takes away Frisk's happy ending. It's like the situation with Kris, the difference is that Kris was a teenager with more or less established life, a family that loves them. Frisk was a child who ended up on the mountain no one returns from, and had nothing.
dope video unrelated, but playing through the geno route for the first time, i thought that the slowed down 'In My Way' still being played when you go through the judgement hall was such a cool touch. its like the 'human' doesnt even think of sans in the corridor, only thinking about that little flower who needs to die next, which might cause the appearance of sans to attack the player in their blind spot while they're completely absorbed into the sudden development of chasing down flowey so many little things make that encounter in the judgement hall so cool to this day
Small nitpick, the child who falls down at 201X is Chara, we actually don't know why Frisk came up the mountain which can lead to a lot of interesting questions. Also, the garbage dump has some interesting narrations that may or may not be giving us info regarding Frisk's past. I've certainly come across stories exploring that. Also, regarding Individuality as Frisk's Soul trait, wouldn't that make them weaker during genocide? If the main thing driving them forward is replaced with something else, wouldn't that have consequences on their abilities similar to the Undyne pacifist date fight? Don't get me wrong, I like it, its a good and unique theory, but that question came to my mind. I still think Determination is Frisk's Soul trait, because you can be determined to do anything which is very powerful, which, Frisk is. You can be detemined to be kind, you can be determined to kill, and you can be determined to be yourself. (Also, the ball game narration could be interpreted as exasperation, because *of course* you got the color of Determination, the thing that's been there the whole way.) Also, something else I thought of. Damage done to "Boss enemies". While catching them off-guard most likely plays a part, the numbers we deal to them compared to regular enemies is out of proportion, even with betrayal kills being accounted for. It's most likely a representation of Frisk's killing intent, AKA how much they want that person dead for whatever reason. Even Sans, who was on his guard enough to dodge, took 7-digit amounts of damage, and don't get me started on the ridicilous number that's the damage Asgore takes. Admittedly, these blows are most likely dealt by Chara (for a multitude of reasons, such as a second person doing a second hit in a turn flexing the rules enough, them wanting this pointless charade over with as soon as possible, and their complicated past with Flowey making it likely for them to uh, "express" their displeasure to Flowey, reperatedly.) but that also gives credence to killing intent=damage theory, as neither of them really care enough about the common monsters they encounter on the way to *really* want them dead.
i once made a theory where frisk thinks the undergrounds a dream, par tof why they seem to have closed eyes, almost like sleep walking, idk if this holds up to anything but also loved ur video
its kind of interesting to see how frisk doesn’t really have their own agency like kris does and it makes the deltarune and undertale parallels more interesting
Wow, nice video! I hadn't thought of Frisk like that before, and it makes me think of the implications this has on the character of Chara, too. I think following this school of thought, maybe Chara was kind like Frisk, but when faced with hardships, instead of sticking with the person they were, they resorted to hostility and lost themselves, their individuality. So while they weren't evil per say, they didn't have the same will power to solve things peacefully even when it seemed hopeless. (At least before the genocide route, but that's its own can of worms I'm unsure of)
Hey, i really enjoyed this video essay. Frisk is REALLY interesting character, and to be honest I kinda had a feeling there is more to them than just the blank slate. And I do agree that Frisk is very similar to undyne. Anyway, that is all I wanted to say.
21:41 even after this you can still go back and reverse all of this.until flowey dies and or chara shows up and give you the choice you can still go back.there will be differences yes but one true reset will fix all of that.
@Military_base01 Except those are feelings. You can feel brave, just, patient, perseverant, kind, integral and determined. But you can't feel "individual".
@@narrativeless404I don't think brave is justice. You can feel a SENSE of justice, like how you can feel a sense of individuality. I've never heard of a sense of patience though
@Aktedya1-jt7vw I don't think Justice is Determinatiin either, but according to the guy, they are both Yellow. Justice and Sense of Justice are basically the same, while tf is Sense of Individuality even is!? Like, isn't that just self-awareness every sapient being has?
What I really love about the Genocide route is how this is the NORMAL route of the game. It makes Frisk unsettling and off putting in snowdin, giving you a real shock of how wrong and out-of-character even your OWN VESSEL is acting. THIS is how someone without any knowledge of the game and only RPGs would see Frisk and many other characters. You have to go out of your way to see who Frisk really is and what makes them an INDIVIDUAL instead of your “MC Character” in what would be seen as “Secret content”
Bro, you literally made me cry, no joke. I felt ... I don't know how to describe it! ... proud of myself!? For being myself??? Genuanly thank you for your work on this fandom, you are makimg it better. Trust me on this one
2:12 I'm pretty sure this is referring to Chara, given the fact that 201X is mentioned, which is the year Chara fell down. Still, it's probably the closest thing we've got to an explanation as to how Frisk entered the Underground.
Fine, you ALMOST convinced what the red is not DT. I will argue what it has golden colour, at most it does not have it at all. However, there is some issues I see in the "Red means individuality" concept: If it means being ourself, why it not changing in geno? What the red text means, if it's definitely not Frisk? My guess, the individuality cannot exist without will to live (which is determination), but you can will to live not even being yourself, but something more cruel. Other humans are lacked their own character, they were a symbol of their trait, not something else. That's why they are all dead. The red means being special, both in good and evil sides, being a person, or embodiment of power.
About the angel, Asriel's final form has the deltarune's three triangles and circle. He's indeed the angel... But not JUST him. Gerson tells us the deltarune, the emblem's kingdom is a prophecy symbol that an angel who has seen the surface will descend from above to bring freedom, but it could be an angel of death, a harbinger of destruction that wants to "free" the mortal realm. This correspond both to Chara, "the fallen human" who says they are a demon(a fallen angel), Asriel, who turns into an Angel and destroy the barrier and us, the player who chooses what fate awaits the monsters. All three of them having seen the surface, Chara and Asriel having fused and us being a human playing. Also, little detail, the triangle below the winged orb represents the monsters and Undyne has them when she becomes Undyne the undying. Mettaton Neo also looks like an angel.
2:02 btw, that might not be how Frisk got to the underground but how Chara fell down. We know that the 'fallen human' shown in the intro of the game is Chara, and the intro scene says "MT. EBOTT 201X" and also shows Chara tripping over a vine and falling down, which is very similar to what the kickstarter page explains(moves closer to get a better look and falls down) Though, there's a chance that the story explained in the kickstarter page is originally supposed to be Frisk's, but later changed to Chara's before the official release of the game.
My problem is-I don't really understand how it works in No Mercy, does their personality just vanish towards the end and only Chara's, poisoned by LOVE, left? How final scene works? Do they just acquired new body? Do they talk to an empty husk? It's very confusing
this was a good video while i might not agree with somethings it is cool that frisk is more than a blank slate or a stand in for the player I like how they have a personality just wished it was shown more also now looking at the video the second slash to sans was done by the human/frisk and they were in control for that tiny moment. l also think this can apply to chara as well considering to me they are kind of in the gray area in terms of morality like they aren't good or bad just neutral now i think chara is a little bit more evil or crewel than frisk but chara wanted to help the monsters it's just they went about it the wrong way same with their love for azzy it was just the wrong type of love heck even going to borderline abuse at times.

Canon Frisk (at least how I interpret this video message): Hey sorry for messing with you earlier, you're fun to play with! Also don't hurt people dude, you should make friends to hang out in the sun, and FREE yourself from negative things!
Also Canon: I wonder what happens if I hurt you... Ima keep doing it.
The last one is you. Frisk forgets everything after True Reset and genocide endings. The can't be the one initiating things.
@@justauser6078 but uh.. the point of this video is to prove that it's actually Frisk the one who chooses that and not the player
@@dor701
I know. And that is wrong. Frisk cannot choose if they don't remember and not the one who does True Reset. Frisk doesn't even have their own name on the save file.
@@dor701
Frisk has a personality and independent actions, opinion on things.
Frisk was a child who ended up on the mountain no one returns from, and had nothing.
dope video
unrelated, but playing through the geno route for the first time, i thought that the slowed down 'In My Way' still being played when you go through the judgement hall was such a cool touch. its like the 'human' doesnt even think of sans in the corridor, only thinking about that little flower who needs to die next, which might cause the appearance of sans to attack the player in their blind spot while they're completely absorbed into the sudden development of chasing down flowey
so many little things make that encounter in the judgement hall so cool to this day
Small nitpick, the child who falls down at 201X is Chara, we actually don't know why Frisk came up the mountain which can lead to a lot of interesting questions.
(Also, the ball game narration could be interpreted as exasperation, because *of course* you got the color of Determination, the thing that's been there the whole way.)
Also, something else I thought of.
I can feel the human inside me
so... Frisk is the friend inside us?
i once made a theory where frisk thinks the undergrounds a dream, par tof why they seem to have closed eyes, almost like sleep walking, idk if this holds up to anything but also loved ur video
I nearly mistake the video for dork's thank goodness i read the description.
i love the new editing style!
Human inside us? That's pretty sus
its kind of interesting to see how frisk doesn’t really have their own agency like kris does and it makes the deltarune and undertale parallels more interesting
i actually really like the visuals and new editing style (especially in the pacifist section!) keep up the good work!
One thing you missed, Mettaton was built to kill humans, but since you aren't one anymore, he dies instantly to you in the Genocide route
I hate how I never realized that red was for individuality instead of determination 😭
(At least before the genocide route, but that's its own can of worms I'm unsure of)
don't say it... don't say it... don't say it... don't say it... don't say it...
Based, I remember you're CHARACTER ANALYSIS.
7:46 this is absolutely peak bravo
Frisk having that level 100 rizz is also important for the plot (trust me)
Hey, i really enjoyed this video essay. Frisk is REALLY interesting character, and to be honest I kinda had a feeling there is more to them than just the blank slate. And I do agree that Frisk is very similar to undyne. Anyway, that is all I wanted to say.
Individuality is something i havent thought about the red soul could be
frisk:-_-
me:-_-
21:41 even after this you can still go back and reverse all of this.until flowey dies and or chara shows up and give you the choice you can still go back.there will be differences yes but one true reset will fix all of that.
1:35 "Individuality" is not a feeling.
This can't be a Soul trait.
Neither is justice, patience, perseverance, bravery, kindness and integrity???
@Military_base01 Except those are feelings.
You can feel brave, just, patient, perseverant, kind, integral and determined.
But you can't feel "individual".
Flowey is filled with... Individuality...?
@@narrativeless404I don't think brave is justice. You can feel a SENSE of justice, like how you can feel a sense of individuality. I've never heard of a sense of patience though
@Aktedya1-jt7vw I don't think Justice is Determinatiin either, but according to the guy, they are both Yellow.
Justice and Sense of Justice are basically the same, while tf is Sense of Individuality even is!?
Like, isn't that just self-awareness every sapient being has?
Human inside me
What I really love about the Genocide route is how this is the NORMAL route of the game.
“The Human inside us”
That’s what she said.
You dropped this: 🎙️
Mike
Bro, you literally made me cry, no joke. I felt ... I don't know how to describe it! ... proud of myself!? For being myself??? I... it's just hit me to the core and the fact that I still wanna create my AU I find your videos as very ... very close to myself, like if I was talking with someone who understands me like no other, no-one is as interested in UNDERTALE as myself in my surrounding and finding someone like you is just a treasure of itself, Thank you. Genuanly thank you for your work on this fandom, you are makimg it better. Trust me on this one
That human that we have inside us?
I consider it a really cool friend
a essay of my favorite character alongside chara and maybe flowey so lets goooo
2:12 I'm pretty sure this is referring to Chara, given the fact that 201X is mentioned, which is the year Chara fell down. Still, it's probably the closest thing we've got to an explanation as to how Frisk entered the Underground.
Fine, you ALMOST convinced what the red is not DT. I will argue what it has golden colour, at most it does not have it at all. However, there is some issues I see in the "Red means individuality" concept:
If it means being ourself, why it not changing in geno? What the red text means, if it's definitely not Frisk?
My guess, the individuality cannot exist without will to live (which is determination), but you can will to live not even being yourself, but something more cruel. Other humans are lacked their own character, they were a symbol of their trait, not something else. That's why they are all dead. The red means being special, both in good and evil sides, being a person, or embodiment of power.
"The real Frisk is the friends we made along the way" ahh line 😭🙏

EBOTT 201X" and also shows Chara tripping over a vine and falling down, which is very similar to what the kickstarter page explains(moves closer to get a better look and falls down)
Though, there's a chance that the story explained in the kickstarter page is originally supposed to be Frisk's, but later changed to Chara's before the official release of the game.
thank you BG01 for being right as always
Yeah, I’m human, DUH! Read the room! 🏀🏎️🌴
MIC DROP!
Lore of The Human Inside us | Frisk Character analysis momentum 100
My problem is-I don't really understand how it works in No Mercy, does their personality just vanish towards the end and only Chara's, poisoned by LOVE, left? How final scene works? Do they just acquired new body? Do they talk to an empty husk? It's very confusing
Still the same I believe.
Chara is very much present though.
1:59 But it says there that it is the year 201X and that year was the year that Chara fell, not Frisk.
this was a good video while i might not agree with somethings it is cool that frisk is more than a blank slate or a stand in for the player I like how they have a personality just wished it was shown more also now looking at the video the second slash to sans was done by the human/frisk and they were in control for that tiny moment. l also think this can apply to chara as well considering to me they are kind of in the gray area in terms of morality like they aren't good or bad just neutral now i think chara is a little bit more evil or crewel than frisk but chara wanted to help the monsters it's just they went about it the wrong way same with their love for azzy it was just the wrong type of love heck even going to borderline abuse at times.
Maybe the human inside us is the friends we made along the tale
