I really like the Alphys ending. Alphys was forced to let go of her fears in order to escort others to safety, and it shows that the No Mercy Run brings out the best in the monsters. As for her saying that she should have killed us when she had to chance, maybe she could have hijacked the technology around Hotland and the CORE to activate their defenses, and maybe use some of her technology. I doubt she herself is that strong, so I suppose she’d use her brains to make up for it.
there are a few traps in hotland where you REQUIRE her help to get past so if she did activate them (mainly that one wall of blue lasers that she, in the neutral and pacifist runs will try to power off, only for them to repeatedly power back on). If that wall was to Stay on permanently then the player would be soft locked in hotland and well. End of Geno Route unless flowey intervenes and destroys the lasers.

When i decided to write an Undertale fanfic, I was surprised at how few neutral ending continuations there were. It seemed like just about the most obvious way to add to the story. Instead, I found reams and reams of AUs and genocide stories, for some reason! So yeah, I wrote a 200,000-word fan novel about the exiled queen ending (here "Sans in the ruins"). It's pretty good!
Trying to find this fic. Because that sounds interesting. And I like Sans and Toriel dynamics stuff, and this fic sounds like it will have that. Also, 200,000 words. Nice. Having trouble finding it though. What site did you post it on?
I need to read this now Because I agree with the majority of fanfics being about the genocide route or a buncha random au's. For me, those are boring because they all have the same formula if that makes sense. They feel empty. But I really like the neutral endings, there's soo much people can do with them
@@BiggieGeez Right... or retellings, I should have said. Like, a new character comes to the Underground and encounters everyone in the same order as in the game. But anyway, it's called "Alphys and the Queen." Let me know what you think if you read some!
UT's Neutral Pacifist ending is satisfying in its own way, showing that the War and the pain that it caused was ultimately pointless as it lead to the death of the King and the souls being lost, but once Toriel takes the throne and ends the War, it gives monsters the opportunity to restart with a new and more hopeful perspective, kinda giving a message that there's no point in starting conflicts as it leads to nowhere, sure it's more bittersweet than True Pacifist but still feel-good regardless
The unspoken fate of Alphys was always the most chilling part of neutral endings for me. You know exactly what happened to her, even if no one says much about it.
Asgore Suicide ending is the saddest ending in the game. Not worst, just most depressing. I’m really happy someone is doing these after all of this time. I know others have, but I think they have been neglected long enough and have needed reevaluated.
@@ZaviahNorwood Yes, he really did. His life just keeps getting screwed over, even when there is literally no reason for it to be (I’m looking at you Deltarune).
I was actually thinking about the neutral endings recently because I was wondering about what an AU might look like where Asgore’s alarm clock dialogue about Noelle living on the surface never comes to be with the barrier not being destroyed, and what her life and the lives of the other Deltarune monsters might be like in this universe. I personally think the most interesting ending for an AU like this is an Empress Undyne ending because I would imagine that life under the ultra militaristic and anti-human rule of Undyne would be the least like Noelle’s life in Hometown in Deltarune.
i just realized how much the mettaton ending is similar to half life 2's basic story, quote from undertale wiki: "Mettaton becomes ruler of the Underground since Undyne disappeared, and establishes a dystopian society in which he brainwashes the entire Underground with his television show."
The beauty of neutral endings is how... "grounded" they are. Genocide turns story into pure horror, while true pacifist turns it into pure comedy and epic story. Neutral.... are dependal, but it's rather give a vibe that Underground is just a place in this big world. You didn't changed the world, but you changed that place alone. How... well... only you amongst human world know =)
Neutral endings, especially the last one, are so much better than the main endings in my opinion. It leaves a lot of interpretation due to how little context is provided, they give me goosebumps each and every time... Also I'm ALL for more based takes on Undertale, haven't missed ONCE 😭
honestly there are MANY variations of the neutral ending and that makes undertale a game with a hell lotta endings if you sit down to count each one for each small thing
I think Neutral endings would get much more spotlight if at least some of them had any imagery whatsoever. It does not hit much different if you get a bit other Sans textwall. But realisation that your actions placed Undyne as the head of state and you pretty much caused Horrortale to happen totally hits a lot differently
I know I already commented, but this is just something when I went to go listen to An ending and looked at the comments. One guy pointed out how the song isn’t called good ending or bad ending. It’s just. . . An ending
I think the reason why the neutral endings are so underrated, is because they are seen as obstacles to the pacifist end, thanks that you must do a neutral to complete a pacifist, and many people just will not explore them because sometimes is annoying travel the whole underground again. I hope that the fangames can solve this. My favorites neutral endings are: -Neutral Pacifist ending (with Alphys) -Sans and Papyrus ruins ending (more than anything because that ending is from my favorite playthrough) -Queen Alphys ending
I seriously would like to see an alternative timeline where sans its mostly alone in the underground except with some monsters that survived like an horrortale but abandoned.
Imagine he holds full hatred towards Frisk and humanity and waits for the day another human falls so he can kill them and take their soul without a word. Either that, or he just gives up and lives the rest of his life like he always does until the inevitable end.
I think that one of the reasons for why this endings are less appreciated are because they (in my opinion) are more impactful AFTER Pacifist and NO MERCY endings. But at the same time this two endings don't want you to replay Undertale: After Pacifist run Asriel tells directly (I actually don't know is he reffering to the first child or the player) to "Let Frisk be happy." Even if you don't care about Asriel's request, most of neutral endings require to kill someone (and Asgore will always die in NEUTRAL) so if you like games cast, then you are also less likely would want to replay Undertale just to see what will happen if you kill someone. After NO MERCY run the game will be destroyed... and even if you offer your soul, playing a lesser version of a NO MERCY or PACIFIST rout doesn't look as appealing. I cannot say that my reasoning is perfect, but this is what I think are the reasons why NEUTRAl endings are less popular with community.
I would like a fangame about a King Papyrus fight, with neutral and genocide battles, he summons a bone sword (because that is the best part of Dustbelif) and uses it like a mix of how Undyne uses her spear and Asgore his trident and the neutral fight is harder than Asgore, but that is about it. The genocide battle starts off with what happened to Asgore being about to happen to Papyrus, but he dodges and responds by taking half your HP in 1 hit from his bone sword because you were caught off guard (he does more dmg than neutral, but not enough to even 4 shot you) and the fight is harder than Sans, and even has Gaster Blasters (he says that his special attack would have blasted you), but not as much as the average Undertale fangame. Also in both runs he talks about how when humans reached him and the majority chose to give up their souls at his request after he explains, but he had to take a few by force.
My favorite neutral ending is probably the aborted genocide route, where alphys grew a backbone. A fan work sequel based on tje ending would be interesting
The main reason why neutral endings are unpopular is undertale itself. Undertale has no replayability at all, most players are not interested in fighting the same monsters 100 times in order to end up with only slightly different text at the end of the game (ONLY TEXT, NOTHING ELSE). If the game had a richer gameplay then neutral endings would be more popular.
No replayability? Yeah I dont really know about that, atleast 3 or 4 neutral runs will all be fun because of how many new things you can see and events you can trigger along with new dialouge you can find
@@Military_base01 Most players follow this scenario: neutral - pacifist - genocide. For completing 1 neutral and pacifist, the player goes through all the content that the game has to offer. Those "new things" that you are talking about are not anything special, most often it’s just a dialogue changes, which for most players is not a good motivator for re-playing the game. And I remind you that there are about 16+ neutral endings in the game. Btw, I'm not trying to say that they're bad or something like that, it's just that Toby wasn't a very good game designer back then.
“An Ending”. Now that’s an interesting name for a song. Not THE good ending, not THE bad ending, just… an ending. What you did do, what you didn’t do, it’s all led up to this point. Hopeful, depressing, the mood can vary through the endings, but one fact still remains. You may have left the Underground, but because of you… the Underground and its residents will never be the same again. Man I love the neutral ending. Thanks for making a video about it all this time later.

People tend to do pacifist and then genocide (in undertale) when it really should have been neutral walkthrough first so they have actual feeling of choice it also opens them as a person do they like a certain character or they just exp them
If you have a friend that wants to play undertale for the first time dont force them into a pacifist route. Okay? 👍🏿 Let them make a choice Let them have it their own way
@@КАТЯра-л6л Yes, Undertale is about making your own choices after all, it isn´t just about pacifism and having the will to forgive despite the bad things others may have done in the past or present day. Edit: Which are also by your own choice.
I mean... Undertale enforces you to get a neutral ending first. You can't get the True Pacifist ending if you can't date Alphys and you can't date Alphys if Flowey was not spared on the neutral ending, because he is the reason why Undyne gives YOU the letter in the first place. Because Flowey said Papyrus to give this advice to Undyne. But if you're talking about the differences of a non-pacifist neutral walkthrough, then I totally agree with you. Many people miss out such unique scenes of the game as Toriel's death, the death of Undyne in her regular form and of course the variety of Sans' judgement. These little moments give you the feeling of guilt that sometimes hits even stronger that on the genocide run, because you realise that you've done a bad thing, but not on purpose.
There’s actually another variant of the first ending that’s even closer to true pacifist. If you befriend papyrus, undyne, and alphys but just never go to the true lab, you’ll get even more dialogue and I think Flowey gives you another hint too.
in the timeline we live in, i was in a neutral route. i only killed a few froggits and whimsums, though. i still feel guilty, but it could have been a lot worse.
I was thinking about it the other day, and the neutral run is debatably more screwed up than the genocide run. The pacifist run is considered the true ending, and the genocide run is for those who get curious, but those are generally one and done, you get both endings and you leave the world as it is. The neutral ending is different though, I'm pretty sure there are over fifty unique neutral endings, to see them all you will have to reset over and over again and kill characters dozens upon dozens of times. The neutral route is the reason why Sans doesn't care about anything and the reason why Flowey is a homicidal sociopath, they know that no matter what happens everything is eventually just going to be reset
As someone who finds the neutral endings interesting and falls asleep, listening to An Ending for 10 hours, can’t wait to see what this video has in the store ( also by the way, really big fan of your videos :D )
Actually, I just thought that exploring both ut/dr fanbases potray the player, how Frisk is potrayed in the ut fanbase and compare them to Kris's potrayal in the dr fanbase. I mainly want you to decide if more fanworks should do the "Frisk is possesed by the player" thing.

She could also sent Mettaton kill us after we left the ruins too.
@@sheogorath6834 like at the start of snowdin (cause that's where she has that one camera). Imagine she just asks Mettaton and Undyne to go kill you right as you enter snowdin, the human is not winning that one easily
The Hacker Ending:
The Mettaton ending was my first ending, I didn’t know how to spare Toriel or Undyne at the time. Honestly one of my favorites despite the horrific implications
same actually. I did also pick up on how, it felt slightly odd with how he runs the place too.
the king papyrus ending is kinda like putting weight at another character, as papyrus might not be able to handle the role of the king.
I need to read this now
Because I agree with the majority of fanfics being about the genocide route or a buncha random au's.
This was always so tragic for me great to see your talking about them
UT's Neutral Pacifist ending is satisfying in its own way, showing that the War and the pain that it caused was ultimately pointless as it lead to the death of the King and the souls being lost, but once Toriel takes the throne and ends the War, it gives monsters the opportunity to restart with a new and more hopeful perspective, kinda giving a message that there's no point in starting conflicts as it leads to nowhere, sure it's more bittersweet than True Pacifist but still feel-good regardless
The unspoken fate of Alphys was always the most chilling part of neutral endings for me. You know exactly what happened to her, even if no one says much about it.
"After you left Papyrus died of ligma" in the thumbnail lmaoo
Asgore Suicide ending is the saddest ending in the game. Not worst, just most depressing.
I’m really happy someone is doing these after all of this time. I know others have, but I think they have been neglected long enough and have needed reevaluated.
Asgore in general is my favourite character, the fluffball deserves more then what he got imo.
@@ZaviahNorwood Yes, he really did. His life just keeps getting screwed over, even when there is literally no reason for it to be (I’m looking at you Deltarune).
How can You get that ending?
@@Darryl9500 Neutral run where you kill flowey. Then reload before Asgore and spare him.
You can guess the rest
@@theonomaly6389 o i see
I was actually thinking about the neutral endings recently because I was wondering about what an AU might look like where Asgore’s alarm clock dialogue about Noelle living on the surface never comes to be with the barrier not being destroyed, and what her life and the lives of the other Deltarune monsters might be like in this universe.
Prime AU potential?
honestly there are MANY variations of the neutral ending and that makes undertale a game with a hell lotta endings if you sit down to count each one for each small thing
It’s just. . . An ending
I confused sans text on the thumbnail and read "you'd better kill yourself kid" 💀
low tier skeleton
I think the reason why the neutral endings are so underrated, is because they are seen as obstacles to the pacifist end, thanks that you must do a neutral to complete a pacifist, and many people just will not explore them because sometimes is annoying travel the whole underground again. I hope that the fangames can solve this.
My favorites neutral endings are:
-Neutral Pacifist ending (with Alphys)
-Sans and Papyrus ruins ending (more than anything because that ending is from my favorite playthrough)
-Queen Alphys ending
nicee! The neutral ending are really good and add so much depth to the characters. It‘s pretty sad that they‘re so underrated.
Thank you for making this a text video and actually getting to the point, rather than an ass video essay with voice.
It passed 4 minutes since this video was uploaded how do people watch it that fast Damn
I seriously would like to see an alternative timeline where sans its mostly alone in the underground except with some monsters that survived like an horrortale but abandoned.
Even worse than Horrortale lol
Imagine he holds full hatred towards Frisk and humanity and waits for the day another human falls so he can kill them and take their soul without a word.
Either that, or he just gives up and lives the rest of his life like he always does until the inevitable end.
UTY cast I wonder how they would be affected
🎶Asriel reverts to his child form, destroys the barrier🎶
I think that one of the reasons for why this endings are less appreciated are because they (in my opinion) are more impactful AFTER Pacifist and NO MERCY endings. But at the same time this two endings don't want you to replay Undertale:
After Pacifist run Asriel tells directly (I actually don't know is he reffering to the first child or the player) to "Let Frisk be happy."
Even if you don't care about Asriel's request, most of neutral endings require to kill someone (and Asgore will always die in NEUTRAL) so if you like games cast, then you are also less likely would want to replay Undertale just to see what will happen if you kill someone.
Apparently, there's another flawed pacifist one where you do the date with Alphys but don't go to the lab.
11:00 Rawest line in the game.
I agree, the Neutral endings definitely get overshadowed by True Pacifist and Genocide, but that doesn’t make them any less interesting!
5:03 SANS ISNT NESS, MAT!
2:17 it's actually if you kill anybody after befriending undyne, not just mettaton
Just that if you kill Mettaton is implied Alphys commits su*c*de
Oh yeah. The betrayal thing will be said when you kill anybody, but if you kill mettaton too the alphys listens to what low tier God says@@Freckolwiishees
Man, the line "Or maybe she doesn't feel anything" Is just so *Bone* chilling, heh get it?... Why did -toriel- have to get it though... :(
finally, a video about horrortale.
1 down off my list now we need
the comic aus (afetrtale, inverted fate, horrortale, epictale, etc) and a overview of my favorite character from ts underswap KOUNT KOFFIN K
People tend to do pacifist and then genocide (in undertale) when it really should have been neutral walkthrough first so they have actual feeling of choice it also opens them as a person do they like a certain character or they just exp them
If you have a friend that wants to play undertale for the first time dont force them into a pacifist route. Okay? 👍🏿 Let them make a choice
Let them have it their own way
@@КАТЯра-л6л Yes, Undertale is about making your own choices after all, it isn´t just about pacifism and having the will to forgive despite the bad things others may have done in the past or present day.
@@err0r522 that what im talking about😁

There’s actually another variant of the first ending that’s even closer to true pacifist. If you befriend papyrus, undyne, and alphys but just never go to the true lab, you’ll get even more dialogue and I think Flowey gives you another hint too.
Something: happens
Alphys: adios
Someone’s been watching Shayyy lately…
6:18 it's kinda scary to think about how alphys went out knowing her mental state and struggles
She certainly did suicide
in the timeline we live in, i was in a neutral route. i only killed a few froggits and whimsums, though. i still feel guilty, but it could have been a lot worse.
When i first got undertale again, i went straight to a neutral route, getting the "leaderless" one, safe to say i did geno right after true pacifist
thanks for bringing this to light, its really cool :)
what about the ending where you befriend alphys but not go to the true lab that's another ending
Man, I'm really waiting for someone to make an AU based on the Leaderless ending.
SAME. People are REALLY sleeping of that ending. The ONLY timeline where Sans is the only one alive.
youre right they are definitely underrated.
A lot of what others dont realis is frisk does not go to the surface in neutral, with no boss soul left, they are stukk trapped
King Papyrus is peak. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.
I think multiple neutral endings are better than the pacifist and genocide endings. It’s nice they’re finally getting recognition
Look i really like neutral endings, have a Lot of them, on of my favorites are when papyrus is the king, neutral endings are really interesing.
When you gender is neutral:

Theres only two though, so you can't be neutral.
So you're gender neutral. Lame, im gender pacifist.

neutral routes are my favorite, and horrortale is my favorite AU :D
Actually, I just thought that exploring both ut/dr fanbases potray the player, how Frisk is potrayed in the ut fanbase and compare them to Kris's potrayal in the dr fanbase. I mainly want you to decide if more fanworks should do the "Frisk is possesed by the player" thing.
