  • A conversation between two architecture school graduates who followed very different paths but share a similar approach to work + life. This video is an excerpt from my conversation with Trent Bell, an award-winning architectural photographer, as we chat in my studio. You'll also join us behind the scenes as he photographs one of my residential projects.
    For the full interview check out Trent’s (new) Architecture, Design & Photography podcast: www.trentbell.com/podcast/ a project he launched with Maine Home + Design magazine.
    Trent is a gifted photographer, videographer and thinker and I was honored to be included in season one. Watch the full video here: • A Conversation with Er...
    In this video we discuss:
    Working for someone else
    The entrepreneurial business approach most architects avoid
    Where one's personal design style originates
    One habit I consider the key to success
    My time management hack (you might not like it)
    What makes "good" architecture (watch the full video on Trent's channel to hear my answer + more )

    It is amazing how everyone finds their own path after school. Along the way you either discover yourself, or you find a niche that you never thought of. For me, I always wanted to be an architect, ever since I was a freshman in high school (1988) taking architectural drafting classes. After all of those years I finally landed a job with an architectural firm in 1997 and realized it wasn't for me.

    Hej,
    I love this kinda podcast session between architecture and photography thought, experience and honesty.
    It really inspired me, you almost answer all those question.
    Keep doing it and let us inspired by you,
    I'm Interior and really love your work and your studio.
    At the moment i don't have a friends to share thought regarding creativity other than my wife.
    Yeah, Soon i will find somebody.
    Thank you very much for your inspired.

    WOW I just discovered your UA-cam page... This is the first video I'm watching of you. You have no idea how this made me channel my passion for architecture again! I am an architect that has been working for 3 years and studies, and aspiring landscape photographer..I recently got into fitness and realized there's a hole world of free information on UA-cam, and I consumed hours of it and taught myself everything I need to know about the industry. It never occurred to me that there are architects doing the same thing with a UA-cam channel!
    Watching your content is very entertaining and educational, and I appreciate you doing the effort to produce this content! I'm definitely want to push my skills of architecture more and more, and people like yourself will help abundance ! Thanks!!

    Hey you should do a podcast discussing the collaboration between an architect and a structural engineer. I'd find that really interesting.

    • @jalc11
      @jalc11 Рік тому

      Not just structural engineers, we need to collaborate with all engineers. From reducing the number of columns in a space to locating air devices on a ceiling, architects and designers must pay attention to all aspects of the built environment.

    Your taste is great! It is modern but it has a lot of personality to it, most houses today can feel a little cheesy, so seeing someone make a little spin on the current trends is awesome

    Just found your channel and have loved everything I’ve seen, especially the sketching/model making videos! Really awesome content and your point of view is fantastic.
    I’m a furniture making and maybe an idea for a furniture video might be how you view furniture and such in your design process (if you consider it at all that is!) just an idea but thank you for the fantastic work!

    That is where I'm at and letting go these hamster wheel jobs will be so liberating. How do you notify your clients?

    • @30by40
      @30by40  5 років тому +1

      Presuming the jobs you're working on are small you finish them out (honor your commitments, right?) Then, you have to be resigned to saying "no" to any new inquiries that look like the old ones (too small, commercial, bad fit, etc.) Good luck...you'll be glad you took this (rather difficult) step!

    Hi Eric ! I am a mechanical engineering student who is really interested in learning more about architecture and design. How do architects factor in critters when creating spaces that transition from indoor to outdoor? Also, are their examples of buildings that successful strike a balance between technology based climate control and passive climate control through design? Thanks!
