Nice one, glycol direction already mentioned and replied to, all I have left to say is great vlog as usual and awaiting tomorrows instalment (although we have an inch of snow). Cheers Schnuz.

Nice workbench! Those tanks ur fabN are going to be just as nice if not nicer than commercial made units. Cheers

Nice video, one suggestion on the outside of the tank. Think about clear coating it for better cooling effect. I design transformers mostly the mechanical structure of it. But we were having issues with heat dissipation. Found through testing and experiments clear coating the SS essentially opens up a window on the surface. Allowing for better emissivity.

Dumb question. Why do you need to back up the welds before you weld it? I was watching a video on milk tank construction and they weld both sides simultaneously (yeah - an expensive CNC setup) but they don't put a backup metal strip on before they weld anything. (And they use a "dimple making" machine with a laser to weld the dimples to make a super wide glycol blanket.) Oh, can you add a currency converter on your merch site? It might help you get more international sales.

I'm wondering maybe you should buy some 4" rubber wheels two 2"x4" and a 4"x6" board to make rollers for your tanks instead of using your back as often as you do.

Better to cool the other way input bottom and output on top for better cooling

Yes, A slight oversight. The glycol will go in at the bottom and out at the top to avoid airlocks. I got stage fright and forgot.

Was going to mention the same but you've already replied 😄 . Cheers, Schnuz.

I'm not really sure it will make any difference which way round you pump glycol. The heat will be drawn out across the whole contact channel and likely further as the whole tank is thermally conductive.

      Air locks mate

If you pump the glycol from the top the cold input will likely sink through the hot glycol that has been in contact with the tank and the cooling will be less efficient. Pump it from the bottom and the hot glycol rises so the glycol coming out of the heat exchanger will be as hot as it can get, making the process more efficient. Cheers, Schnuz.

Harry, I know you are a busy man but I have a question about your ferm temps and hope you can answer. Awesome job you are doing on the tanks by the way. Question is : Its all understood about the glycol chilling part of temp control but would you need heat the brewery when temps drop to like 2 degrees outside or lower if just starting a fermentation to prevent it getting to cold. with your experience what is the danger temp that you need to keep above to not affect fermentation. I just notice on bigger setups there is never heating adaptations like small homebrew set ups and big setups are usually in big freezing cold workshops etc. thanks and hope you can answer mate. this could help ease some concerns I have with my frem shed in freezing Scotland just now.

barry reid you need to build a fermentation fridge.

Wills Brewery has hit the nail on the head. the thermal mass of 500 liters is huge and it takes a lot to change the temp. The yeast usually produces enough heat via their metabolism to finish the brew. on the rare occasion they stalled, I used to chuck a heated blanket on the fermenter and that was enough. never had any issues at 2000 liters though.

yes dyslexia is a pain but you can only battle on and try to overcome it. think I'm not doing too bad considering. It doesn't make you thick though as Harry could agree.

Cheers Harry, I am now at ease. I've got a few heaters in my insulated shed that I can run for a kick start if I get a stall. being that its 500l fermenters that I have, I just wasn't sure if there was enough volume there to protect me from the beast from the east as not wanting my heaters on 24/7 if not needed. loving your work and watching every new and previous vids of you and Tom and learned so much from you and a wee bit from Tom.. joke. lol. My work is on facebook.com/reidsgold/ if you want to see some awesome DIY fire hazard dodgy equipment lol. I would appreciate a thumbs up or down if I'm on the right track or if you could see potential issues with my set up. just a baby setup just now though as not enough space but as you will see I do like a brewery build. keep up your good work and wishing you all the upmost success.
