    I bought the mj mix in February of 21, it sucked!! After a season of almost no growth or vegetables I tried dumping my half barrels of the stuff into my compost pile and a month later my worms were gone, and I found a railroad spike. The guy was very nice when I bought it, he even gave me more then i asked for for no extra cost, but it wasn’t worth it.

    Awesome. There's a compost facility in Norman, OK close to where I live. 10$ a truck load. I still add imputes, but it helps a lot in volume for raised beds.

    Thank you tons for this video. I Live in a hotazz part of AZ and have been thinking of ways to build soil, from Bokashi composting, vermicomposting, and urban composting using food waste and paper products (newspaper, cardboard). This place can surely provide a good base for these soil amendments I've been working on. I love you man.

    So glad I stumbled across this video. I only wish I'd have known a few years ago what I just learned. I attempted/failed my first veggie garden in Vegas after moving here from western where we had great soil. I used a basic garden soil from Cheyenne Rock which was obviously a desert-rookie mistake. I'm now planning a large cactus/succulent garden (about 300 sq ft) in a different location and was looking for somewhere to buy bulk perlite and vermiculite. I'll be dragging my trailer to ViraGrow this weekend for the ingredients and mixing up a well-draining concoction. Can't wait to get it going. Thanks for sharing.

    John, I need your help! I live here in Henderson and all the trees we planted along an area of the yard have already died and i think i only have two left that might be able to save. How much do you charge to come out and do an assessment or consultation to take a look at our situation and give us a guide or set of instructions to follow so that moving forward we wont be loosing a couple thousand on buying these trees. I just want to make sure we are doing what is needed to set us up to hold for the years to come and I really want to get a list of Trees / plants / privacy shrubs that you eould recommend for this area to grow and thrive. I really want to talk to someone who is an expert and who has been doing this for years and of course especially knowledgeable of growing in this area trees and shrubs. Please advise when you can! 🙏🏻❤️

    I got the MJ soil mix and I'm a little disappointed. It looks nice and dark but very dense. It feels crusty like clay when the top is dry. My store bought bagged soil mix with manure seems to out perform the MJ soil mix. Maybe I'll add other amendments to the mix to see if I can improve it.

      I also bought some mj mix, it sucked!! The customer service when I bought it in February was amazing. They filled my pickup more then i figured and charged me less. But nothing grew well in it, as i was digging thru a half wine barrel i found a railroad spike. So i hoped I could mix it into my compost pile and the worms could fix it, but after 2 months i turned the pile and my worms are gone!!

    That gs compost looks like the crap I got from Lidls they called it soil conditioner it was supposed to be yard waste but it had chipboard from old kitchens and I even found some silicone that had solidified in the plastic nozzle.
    I would recommend staying away from that junk.
    All commercial windrow made multipurpose compost is absolutely rubbish and devoid of nutrients.

  • @zemadeiran
    @zemadeiran 5 років тому +2

    John, with all due respect none of that is soil by any stretch of the imagination
    Call it what it is, compost which should be used as an amendment to the native soil in order to increase it's organic matter
    Compost as an amendment can provide an initial kick start for the soil food web while not forgetting to add clay also

    • @angermanagemnt693
      @angermanagemnt693 5 років тому +4

      I would love to see John talk more about BUILDING soil and less about buying soil and amendments. The biggest problem that we have in America is the loss and destruction of soil through the use of chemicals. Every square foot of soil has all of the nutrients and minerals in it that plants need if it has the soil biology it needs to access those nutrients. John used to talk about fungal dominated soil, but never (in any video I saw) discussed how to grow your own soil with a common mycorrhizal network. John please plan a trip to visit Gabe Brown or at least drive over to Kiss the Ground in Venice, CA. Repeatedly buying products like compost or worm castings is silly. If you build healthy soil those things are already there. See for example: ua-cam.com/video/npu6GBbB-Oc/v-deo.html

      @@angermanagemnt693 I think you are over generalizing!!! Not all areas have the quality of soil you speak of. Areas that have higher rainfall will have far less nutrients and mineral than areas that receive limited rainfall. One very important aspect that nearly everyone overlooks is there should always be something growing in our garden soil and never bare...without plants there will be very little microbial activity...nature works on symbiotic relationships!!!!
