  • In the mid-1900s, Eastern Bluebird populations were on the decline. Loss of habitat to farming and urbanization was leading to their downfall. Out of concern for these special birds, volunteers across the country began constructing bluebird nesting boxes to give them the cavities they needed to lay their eggs. Over time, their numbers began to rebound, and they are now thankfully listed as a species of least concern.
During nesting season, volunteers like Dave maintain and collect data on the nest boxes. They see which bird species are making nests, what habitats have the best success in attracting bluebirds, and how many fledglings successfully make it out of the nest. Without their dedication, we wouldn't have the time to keep records of this information. The story of the bluebirds highlights that many individuals taking action can make a difference in the world. #PreservedForYou #volunteering #birds #birdlovers
