- She-Hulk Episode 1 had to be reconstructed to include Jen Walters' origin. Erik Voss analyzes how this episode pulled off the VFX shots, and the clever camerawork they used to get around it! Redeem a Harry’s Trial Set for just $3 when you go to Harrys.com/new... Thanks to Harry’s for sponsoring!
What VFX secrets did you miss throughout She-Hulk Episode 1? Since the producers had to remove a number of She-Hulk VFX shots, how was this episode deceptively edited to mask the moments that had to be reworked? Erik Voss analyzes the visuals, camera direction, VFX, and editing of She-Hulk Episode 1 to assess how successful the creative team was at pulling off the introduction of Jen Walters, and how subtle choices by Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, and the director Kat Coiro deserve greater appreciation for bringing these characters to life.

Marvel also have many years of pre-work for Ruffalo's Hulk
the best part of the entire episode is that Bruce and Jen acted more like they were siblings instead of cousins....they were always that close in the comics :)
Especially in that one comic. You know the one.

There is no cgi, Tatiana Maslany and Mark Ruffalo can just do that
I believe it
At will.
True
I believe it (2)
Method acting
I didn’t once think about the cgi during the episode, which says a lot of good things
@ILoveFishyx hell yes, it was an awesome frickin episode
Me too
i thought about it for the first half of the episode. Terrible terrible sloppyiness. Why is the hulk looking worse than he did in 2008? it makes no sense
Same
@@HappyBob701 because it’s a lot harder to combine a cgi character with a real life actors face instead of just a complete cgi monster
Congrats on the wedding Voss
Sakaaran ship : Hey guys, we got a message for you
Jen and Bruce : *crashes*
Sakaaran ship : 😳 I’ll just tell you next time
most underappreciated comment. Lol.
“I can control my anger infinitely better than you can!!” Even though Bruce went through so much crap with his alter ego and the military. He was abused as a child and more. Nice writing!👏
Another interesting practical effect they did was showing the door of the jeep reaching almost Jen's neck, giving us a better sense of scale.
The VFX'rs are doing an amazing job! Can't wait to see the rest of the episodes. Lets just hope they're not time-crunched or have too many changes before the episode releases. Who am I kidding, this is Marvel and they're legendary for that =P
I’m sad seeing how short the episodes are just because i want more of it lmao, but episode 1 didn’t even feel that short or dragging! They were able to take every second in that episode and put it to good use :) great pacing!
Yeah i feel really bad for them, its a shame they didnt have the time or resources to make it look good. These guys spent thousands of hours on this and all anyone will remember is how poorly it turned out :(
I never really complained about the CGI in the trailers, but the VFX looked really good in the episode. I trusted that Marvel would be able to improve, and they did it beautifully.
I liked all the cgi. The only thing I didn't like was the Titania kick.
IKR? It looked like a parody of a fight.
@@mariojimenez691 it kinda was, that can't even be considered a fight, it was done on purpose for comedy.
That whole court room scene was very choppy, Loved the episode but didn’t really like that fight
There’s someone named “idiotic genius” who credited you for this comment.. idk why
I think the short fight scene is not that serious like they did is (as usual) a joke. Maybe on the next ep. We would get a serious fight scenes.
A shout-out to all the VFX artists who worked on the pilot and all the rest of the episodes, we love and respect y'all so much.
I loved how Hulk used the angle grinder with three fingers
I for one love everything post endgame. Not to be typical comic book nerd or MCU nerd but as an overall viewer of any genre of movies and television. I’m thoroughly enjoying all the different Disney+ Marvel shows we’ve gotten since Wanda Vision. Phase 5/6 are gonna be fun, “In Feige and Marvel Studios we trust!”
Amen
It's so nice to here some one think like me
For me the lowest point were
The eternals (Issues but still fun)
And ms marvel (I love the characters but the plot and pacing were not great)
And I still really like those lol
Fr same!
I really really wish that I did too, but I'm glad other people do at least.
ms marvel was bad
6:20 This image also 'reflects' the covers of their first comics where we have the smaller human and the giant HULK behind them.
I like the last scene with Titania it didn't seem like a movie more like a comic book fight
I'm actually glad they moved up all the exposition. Always annoys me with these shows when they wait until the 2nd or 3rd episode to explain the origin story... just start the story at the pilot.
That was my main issue with Moon Knight. It felt like it took 4 episodes just for the story to start
@@zachiswayposi1 for me, moon knight doing that was alright, because it felt like we were discovering the origin story alongside Steven Grant
It has to build up
@@zachiswayposi1 no
@@zachiswayposi1 No. It was more like a WandaVision type of problem
in direct sunlight, the CGI was perfect
If I didn’t watch this video I would’ve never had a clue to the changes they made. Great first episode!
The scene where Jen is trying to get Bruce out of the car calls back to why David Banner became HULK; because he was trying to tap into the hidden strength of people like mothers picking up a car to save their child.
I wasn’t as distracted by the CGI as I feared. I was surprised I liked the first episode as much as I did. Looking forward to seeing what’s to come.
I grew up watching the Incredible Hulk on TV in the 70s so the CGI here looks great to me!
Right? Darn kids today don't know how good they have it.
I am used to non stop motion. I watched some of my favourite movie yesterday Time Bandits when I was young. I enjoyed it so much all though the special effects really showing it aged.
thanks for making this video, this show’s VFX has been in constant conversation!
This episode is definitely an episode
Episode looked great.
I think they did an excellent job..I loved it. No more complaining from everybody 💯
Sadly most people don't notice the 95% great CGI work from the vfx artists, they only notice the other small 5% & complain about it. Critiques and giving feedback are greats, but just don't complain for the sake of complaining, without providing any feedback.
That’s their favorite thing to do
The courtroom brawl reminds me of Ghostbusters II when the angry judge causes the ghosts to burst out of the psychoreactive slime sample and the busters have to save everyone's butt. Heros gotta hero. I wonder if Zuul is a celestial.
Like Drew Trox said in the comments, I liked the episode as well, but the only thing I didn’t like was Titania’s ‘kick’
Loved this opening episode!
Wife and I the same, awesome opening episode!
9:46 "match the Hulk in strength" LOL
The VFX look great. We are just not used to human figures with unnatural skin tones looking natural.
All this talk makes me feel bad for vfx artists. They need to be paid as equally as the actors.
"but you love it", lol, hell yeah, more please!
Interesting defence testimony video for the show’s VFX
I thought the CGI, VFX and the whole episode as a whole was really good. I liked it.
Looks like a CGI arm, but they are killing it! It's incredible.
So...let's tear apart the VFX to say we loved it? Is that the point here?
I thought very little about the CGI, and when I did, it was to see if I was really noticing the CGI much. Which I didn't.
LITERALLY
i love this live action version of Sherk
You’re absolutely right…you look too closely into the details but I can’t look away!!! Keep it up!
This has to be one of the hardest CGI projects for marvel. But I feel like marvel figured it out here.
especially doing face animations on a character that does not have wrinkles or stubble to make it look more grounded.
Really? More than Endgame? Infinity War? Ok
@@redhorsepapi If you notice in Infinity war and especially Endgame, it has a lot of darker scenes which is easier to cgi I guess cause a lot of details don't need to pop.
Let’s gooo Erik’s back!
Ew
@@HipnotikHylian Don't be a Voss hater.
Hulks notes will sure come in handy when they need to subdue his upcoming rampage hopefully in a WW Hulk
I thought the VFX was MARVELous. Done really well.
Tbh I really enjoyed this episode and the VFX was amazing.
Idk why but that scene of hulk tackling Jen feels suspicious. I’m wondering if that was specifically hulk and not smart hulk
Think about it. Bruce started screaming when transforming after the crash and then it cuts to night. Why did it take him long to find Jen
the missing parts / frames are in the teaser and official 1st trailer ..... why these bits were cut out is a complete mystery
shame how a female lead still has to be "perfect" even in CGI form to get approval. Tatiana's personality and acting makes this character perfect for live action. perfect casting all the way. CGI is just a bonus
Exactly I’ve been thinking this exact thing since the trailers. Not even jus for the female characters, this goes for all characters
The CGI looks soooooooo much better than the trailers
It doesn’t help that UA-cam compresses videos so they smooth it out which makes it look worse
Thank you for making these types of videos. We love it
Class in session💯
I think they did a very good job, given that this bill as done through the pandemic, timing and work force was extremely low.
Yoooo start of an amazing Marvel series :D
When Bruce starts to turn green and roars that kinda reminds me of zed’s transformation in the zombies movies was that intentional probably not but coincidental comparisons can be fun lol
Y’all have no idea what I’m talking about anyway

Ah! Look at that wedding ring! Congrats, Voss!
See that’s why I fw you voss you see what I see literally!
Didn't know about the changes but still liked it overall!

Congratulation with the marriage btw!
I am so irritated at how bad the Visual Effect Artists were slammed over the trailer. They work so hard on these movies and produce stunning work. They did a beautiful job on Jennifer Walters
Congrats to you and yours!
Glad they reorganized and got hulk vs hulk outta the way. Who doesn’t love instant gratification!
Welcome back vosk 🥳
Erik's back
happy to hear about wedding. God bless you and stay happy.
Cgi for Hulk was way better. I don't buy that the smoother appearance was just due to an intentional design decision.
The missed visual Details are the good CGI
I loved the episode it was the perfect amount of everything to me
I think in the next episode we will see the full fight.
We're not gonna see Titania again until Episode 5
1:17 beautiful work by marvel, wire work definately doesnt look too obvious. its so damn good
Da king is back baby he neva miss
They did a dope job 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾❤💯💯💯
I knew there was something off about this episode! Interesting they decided to do so much rearranging...
Those pages in Hulk’s binder looked CG to me. It got even more obvious when you zoomed into him flipping through. At least to me. But none of this bothers me in the slightest, I loved the first episode, I’ve been excited for this for some time and Tatiana Maslany is fantastic. So I’ll all in
Missed Voss so much, welcome back king
I am truly enjoying Marvel lately. So fun! ♥
Bread crumps of AIM just waiting for the yellow coveralls
Something I noticed was the human size fingerprints on the jeep hood where hulk hands were
I will say I noticed in real time Bruce's log is total chi it just looks it
The first episode was great!!!
Congrats 🥳
I thought the cgi was pretty good... until the gringe worry flying street fighter kick in the court room. How does something THAT bad make it through post production? 🤔
how do you not realize that that’s done on purpose for comedy
@@dantepierre1948 no no i get that. but the only reason it was “for comedy” was because they redid the first episode. right?
It was so bad, I thought it was intentionally bad. Reminded me of Kung Fury.
@@dantepierre1948 exactly. It surprises me the amount of people who complained about it when the cuts in that scene along with the bgx were so obviously meant to recreate a scene in a comic book.
VFX artists are the real heroes
the cg is good, fun episode and series
Points for using “embiggen”
you can invite corridor crew for these
i loved it... Loki tv serious still my favorite but plenty of episodes to come to change my mind
crossover with corridor crew sometime!!
Really walking the uncanny valley line
I didn’t even notice hulk tackled Jenn lol 😭
The CGI is good here
this was an enjoyable episode. the real question is how they'll stick the landing. that seems to be the rough spot for disney+
I think you guys need to stop making excuses for Marvel and call a spade a spade. That first episode was devoid of logic and the cgi wasn't what is expected out of a marvel property
Yall marvel fans are so hard to please ISTG
Excellent VFX as is the same with every Marvel property, never seen a bad VFX yet
looks fine to me 🤷🏼
Poor mans Corridor Crew
