This was when wrestling was GOOD!
I grew up in Memphis in the 80s. Every Saturday morning I was totally hypnotized by Memphis wrestling. But there was nothing like the Road Warriors- those dudes scared the shit of me!! At the age of 8/9 and witness these 2 cats with the war paint on their faces and the bodies built by "roids" was nothing I ever saw before!! Wrestling use to be real entertainment without all the lights/ fireworks bullshit. Back then it was simple: great storylines/plots/ awesome characters and great wrestling!!
I too grew up with Memphis Wrestling in the late 80's and 90s. I wish they brought it back in a whole new way.
R.I.P. Lance Russell and Hawk.
Jason McElvany AMEN!!!!!!!!!
Jamie McVay BY-GOLLY!!!
Chris Bowen LMAO!!!!!!!
Precious Paul was a nationaly ranked powerlifter himself back in the day!
Those were the good old days
Peggy B You said it
Lance Russell is the GOAT. His commentary is every bit as imprtant as the in ring action.
precious Paul with the cape is gold
Natural enemies, Idol and Lawler, many would team up just in hopes of bestimg the road warriors. Respect
This match was for the NWA National Tag Team Titles. Titles that should be reinstated by the NWA. But this just show's, how great and how big the NWA & Wrestling use to be.
The Road Warriors were the most incredible tag team ever
they were, until they went to wwf when wince mchamm made them come out with that STOOOPID dummy roco
Was there ever a team in their prime more intimidating than the Road Warriors? Jesus look at those guys. Huge, could move, mean spirited.
I'm far from being Lawler's biggest fan, but he's one of the best 5 sellers and top 15 talkers of all times IMO.
Tuco Benedicto Ramirez and has the best looking punch
hell yeah
Definitely one of the best talkers. I grew up watching this.
that ring with all the dried blood
Memphis baby!!!
Often imitated, never duplicated!
Nasty looking mat
I was there live for one of these matches. It was gold Conan the Dumb Ass. Lawler is/was a national star. He still wrestles 3 or 4 times a month even after a massive heart attack.
Many good times at the old Mid-South coliseum in my hometown of Memphis Tennessee. Really missed a Monday night wrestling match and most Saturday televised matches at the channel 5 studios.
I remember going to this fight
Surprised both hawk and animal sold lawlers punches the way they did
A Texas tornado match towards the end! But that was the normal order of business when those two tag teams faced each other in the ring. A fierce and intense tag team war indeed!
Without Lance Russel calling a match…it was just a show.
Hawk is a huge ripped athlete at his peak. Strong ripped.
great clip
Could listen to lance russell commentate any time
Jay alhadeff R.I.P. LANCE RUSSELL
Jay alhadeff "ICON"
Lance imo was the best match caller EVER !
great match
Whaaatttt a Russshhh !
BossHawg6977 Welllllllll
Great Camera work.
Road warriors best tag team everrrrrr. I have been in one of these rings and i can tell you that that canvas may have a thin mat covering plywood but it would hurt being slammed from high up to the mat no doubt. These wrestlers take a lot of punishment.
show more older shows
Does anyone have the entrances to this? Pretty sure they used the footage for the road warriors music video.
I thought this was the match where Hawk no-sells a Lawler piledriver. Must have been another match with these 4. That's a great spot.
Burger King and idol start to get the best of the road warriors and they say wrestling ain't fake hahahahahahaha
Who died in the ring in the prior match?
Curious what year this was
Am I the only one that hears the ECW ECW ECW chant starting at 2:06?
Jay Le Blanc Ooh mmyy gauud Catfight
I thought the same....
Well Paul Heyman got his baptism by fire in the Memphis Territory. It makes sense that ECW was the true heir of the wildass Memphis legacy.
ecw wasnt around yet though
I swear that was weird!
Nice bump ref
Mighty Warriors invade KINGS castle.
that ring looks like it could have been repaired at some point. Its not like Lawler was low on money.
So how many air travel miles did Jerry Lawler earn from this one match alone?
The road warriors...were never great wrestlers...they were great...strength guys
Austin Idol had the look. skills and talking ability to have had the spot Ric Flair had for so long
Dave S. I wrestled idol & he is not a good worker at all
or at least as Sting
SO DID A LOT OF PEOPLE!
@@andrewclayterman6230 😆
Lawler gets press slammed by both Road Warriors. Nice way to show their power off. Really short match. The dq ending was lame. Even the LOD struggled to pin Lawler in Memphis.
Can’t believe they kicked the Warriors’ asses...
Lawlerweighed more than 235lbs
Idol whooped Ellering's a$$ lol
The infamous Roid Warriors.
I didn’t watch one second of the match nor will I watch one second. Lemme guess, disqualification?
The by
Lance Russell was so much better then Gordon Solie
The Road Warriors were a rip off of the movie The Road Warrior.
Did you figure that all by yourself
Well duh!!
Dam road warriors were huge as fuck this must of been was steroids was allowed 💉💉💉
I said it before and I'll say it again you people of Namco been cut out of coming out with the new Naruto to Baruto game in July you owe us big time and please please don't miss the mark you really do have to make sure you do a better job on this game then road to boruto you have to this time
Punches, and a roll up. That was the highlight of Lawler and Idol's offense. Wow that was close. The Road Warriors almost lost the belts...I hope you know what sarcasm is Lawler fans. You sure don't know anything about good pro wrestling. Lawler would have been a jobber in Florida, or Mid- Atlantic.
Conan The Freeloader so true. did Lawler have any wrestling moves. he reminds me of Piper who would just kick and punch and people where in love with them. no real moves
Conan The Freeloader kinda like the entire WWE ROSTER
Fuckoff if u got the best looking punch in the history of punches then guess what u throw hands
The Road Warriors were power wrestlers they went in and beat people up. Lawler was not very big, or strong. To work a match against bigger stronger wrestlers you have to make it look like you are using your cunning abilities, speed, cheating, or wrestling technique in the match. All Lawler knew how to do was through punches. That makes for a ridiculous match. Who in the world would think chubby Lawler could truly brawl with either Hawk, or Animal. Lawler didn't know how to work matches. That is why he never became a national star. What a boring wrestler.
There's an element to Lawler that you're overlooking. PSYCHOLOGY. I GUARANTEE you that 11,500 people didn't pile into the Coliseum EVERY Monday night because they were bored. And I'm SURE Lawler has made (AND KEPT) more money than MOST of the Florida/Georgia guys you deem superior to him. Proof is in the pudding, pal. He's not called "King" for nothing. Hip-tosses and toe-holds be damned, the guy had more consecutive sell-outs in Memphis than ELVIS FRIGGIN' PRESLEY. Even Flair, Hogan, and Austin can't say that. Maybe you should show a little respect for the chubby kid from Memphis.
Today's wrestling is 💩Fecal Matter💩
🤥
The Road Warriors are and were the GOAT surely NOT the USO!!!
HOW ABOUT THE STEINERS,BRUISER & CRUSHER, BAM-BAM & DR.DEATH, ETC
No matter who’s his partner …….Jerry the king lawler OWNED Memphis wrestling. Nobody else even came close.
Literally
