Depends on the leather loafers. The Weston 180 loafers in bergeronnette, burgundy are great with shorts while a dressy C&J Sydney in dark brown looks off. A nice penny loafer in grained leather is also working.

Huaraches sandals are a great alternative if you have to wear sandals, they are close toed but the way the leather is Woven its extremely breathable. Nisolo makes PHENOMENAL Huaraches, I have 3 pair and they even look very formal if a sandal can ever be

Leather boat shoes look kind of dressy and they just look "off" with shorts IMO. Asper drills seem like something your grandma made, they look kind of like weird cult, hippy shoes. Suede loafers look pretty good. Sneaker looks by far the best. The leather sandals are second best.
Thanks for watching. If the shirts are in a light color, I think the most versatile option would be a light shade for the shoes, as well. Maybe a light brown (tan), cream or offwhite/white I think with black, the contrast might be a bit too strong
Have to disagree with the sneakers - they make any man look like he is stuck in his teen years. Never wear sneakers unless your are running or playing sport. Loafers and espadrilles are the best choices here, imo.
You make a good point. I think it does depend on personal preference and age as well. I'm not sure if I will still wear sneakers and shorts when I get to my 50s or 60s.
I typically wear flip flops and leather boots in shorts because I make my own rules 😂

Living in Australia we wear shorts through the summer and into spring…I tend to stick with the white leather minimal sneakers
That would be my shoe of choice as well
For me, the white Clarks and the brown suedes are my favorites.
