@@DMS3TV By all means. Just was an observation. I think UA-cam allocates a disproportionately lower bit rate to lower res video. It had the HD symbol before so I assumed it was processed on YT's end but it was very blocky. Now it looks much better. My bad.
I compared Empy I, Empy II, and Elite at CanJam Dallas. Empy II was way more clear, balanced, and detailed than Empy I during my quick comparison. The Elite was still a bit better, but maybe not $1000 better. However, it was different enough that you could probably justify owning both (if you have that kind of money to spend).
No wonder i enjoyed it so much more then the susvara did and i thought it was because i got an extra dose of caffeine in the morning, these cans taught me that i enjoy good tuning over party technicalities
Ugh I wish these were on AutoEQ already! In the meantime I did a quick EQ to the bass region to bring it down slightly which does remove the warmth from it. And of course reduced the 6kHZ bump down to listener preference. Brings it really close to Harmon, but actually crazy close to HE1.
I like Meze a lot, if only for their attention to detail on ergonomics and their overall headphone build. They feel the price. I had the original Empyrean and I currently own the 109 pro and Liric and for me, the 109 pro (with pad swaps) is just everything I wanted from the OG Empyrean and more. I never disliked the OG Empyrean, it sounded a little safe to me and while they were plenty warm I was never satisfied by the bass, I legitimately wanted more. This revision seems much more appealing but in now owning the 109 pro and the HiFiMan HEKse, both of which are considerably less expensive.. eh it's a hard sell. No doubt the build is amazing but I still think it's going to be impossible for Meze to beat the value of the 109 pro (again, with swaps).
They could if the empyrean wasn't a joke of a headphone for $3000. I'm not even talking about it's boxy, very underdeveloped tuning. That headphone at least has OK technicals for the cost even if its not great. The empyrean is destitute in comparison.

I'm looking for new headphones, but there are not many places around me that have a large selection to try different models. I guess that my tastes fall in the fun sounding region. Of course I enjoy good separation, relatively wide soundstage, and nice clarity, but a punchy bass is a must. The sound signature has to have some presence of weight to it. I tend to listen at higher volumes, so I'm a little sensitive to "too much" emphasis on the upper midrange. I prefer a slightly warmer, punchy sound, but still with some sizzle at the top end.
