Hi, great video. I fell down, mi shifter was bent , to be able to get back to him I bent it using a wrench, I believe the shift shaft was bent, I am not sure if I screw my new 400 km bike. It works fine, any advise would be appreciated
Can anyone help me I have a 2008 KX450 I put brand new clutch cable brand new clutch and everything and it still did not fix my problem my problem is I can never get the bike back to neutral why it's running my cable is adjusted I have to use all the adjustment in my cable and it's still not working someone told me a shift shift can be the problem already changed clutch and cables not stretched out brand new cables and still have the problem annot find neutral until bike is turned off all gears shifts fine in my cable adjustments or maxed all the way out still cannot find neutral
I always recommend changing the gaskets after opening up cases, unless the gaskets only have a few engine hours on them. Not worth the risk to leave old gaskets on unless you absolutely have to due to time constraints.
The shadow has a very similar design and the process will be similar. Look in the Honda parts diagrams for 'Clutch' and 'Gear Shift Drum' to see the small differences.
Not sure if your still active but does the kick start gear touch the other gear when kicked and retract back in after kick because it wouldn't make sense for it to be moving with all the other gear
The kickstart gear and idler gear remain connected to the clutch basket the entire time. There is a ratchet mechanism on the kickstart gear (behind the gear) that allows the actual kickstart lever to disconnect from the spinning kickstart gear while the engine is running. The action of kicking the kickstart lever down pushes the ratchet assembly into the kickstart gear to engage with it. The assembly then retracts after the kick and the kickstart gear remains in motion with the clutch basket. This video shows the action: ua-cam.com/video/cFI2eGu5Pzw/v-deo.html&ab_channel=spamsafe
@@katayama_co Thanks you for taking the time on this. So the next question would be. What would you do if you were in trouble of finding a 96 Power Valve because they are discontinued. Should I sell the bike or you think just hold off and hope one pops up on ebay.
@@ThatGuyFin You need the actual powervalve or do you need parts for the PV governor assembly? By searching part #s I found this reproduction valve from Italy for your 96, looks like it might work. www.ebay.com/itm/295022006875?hash=item44b0ae925b:g:Id4AAOSwTqBg3bJM&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4FSvkMrxiqyzZaKlIBgCqcUE6Hu7EfizPgvDN6SFVRurKq%2FY0x%2BpJOVW%2FQWY3hGktl6UwYHy5RVMpSH5bCyYv9pHqQw5tzPuakDx6Swx2kTUGr4cyCVDxLLSFMNjx04%2BNOWdIPkPUuXeF2HwS4fcWC6Tb4cB2151fYN166MlNcwdiQMnEVP4iroagug545mugumteFQhdpM4AXmQ0JFzOQUfXVREHbszf5GXCV5t32x1fMe84Ft6a9bRkP4ymnB%2FYPgcs8OvFTgkbZq9K82p1TxwVTg3bnB3RP6euQu%2BFk5%2F%7Ctkp%3ABFBM-J26mrtg
So I have a 91 yz250 with a stripped shift shaft. I took it to a shop and they're telling me it's gonna cost $1000+ to fix cause they have to "split/Crack the casing" or somethingto that effect cause its an older yamaha? Do you have any expertise on the matter?
The 91 YZ250, and basically any moto bike ever made, has a very similar shift shaft design to my modern YZ250. Fixing a stripped shift shaft is the exact same process that I perform in this video, and it does not involve "splitting the cases." "Case-splitting" is much more involved and refers to removing the engine from the frame and separating the two halves of the bottom end of the motor, which house the crank and transmission (which again, is not necessary for a shift shaft repair). Labor hours for a shop to replace a shift shaft only should be 1-3 hrs maximum.
PLEASE HELP ME:( everything went smoothly but my shift shaft won't come out! It's 3/4 of the way out but then clicks like it's hitting something. I don't wanna yank harder on it cause what is it hitting? Thank you
I had a small issue removing my bent shift shaft simply due to the bend making it hard to pull it through the case (it wasn't actually hitting anything inside or making any clicking noises) Based on your description, the only thing I could think of would be the internal shift cam drum. The shift shaft comes through the bottom right hole in the picture linked below. The shift cam drum is directly to the left of it as pictured. cdn.thumpertalk.com/uploads/monthly_06_2012/post-333271-0-71973000-1340610662.jpg
@@katayama_co thank you very much I will look into it! Mine isn't bent I don't believe, the end of it where the shifter connects to is just busted up but it slides out so far I'm surprised I couldn't get it out fully!

Hey, I’ve got a shift shaft that slips the tines on the torsion spring because it can move side to side about 1/16”- just enough for the tines to fall off. Does your shift shaft have any lateral movement or is it pretty tight? Great video and humor;)

@3:13 The bearing I point to is for the powervalve governor. The waterpump bearing is actually in the right side case.
Great video! Really helpful and informative. Looking forward to more.
I don’t have any information on how to get the old shift shafts off, it don’t know how
Me either I can’t find a way to get it open or get to it
“A very bent shaft” 😅 I hit mine so hard that is at a 30 degree angle 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That could be a new world record I think
I have snapped mine 😭

Mine is bent just like that. It was a pain to get out because it didn’t want to fit down the shaft hole that it rides in.
Yeah it definitely takes some effort to yank it out
@@katayama_co I had to use an extension and a hammer, to hammer through.
@@JohnDoe-du6yi I wonder if other manufacturers have similar issues, but I've heard the most about the YZs
Was there any damage after?
Nice video! Mine is completely stripped out.. would love to replace it before I end up just welding the shifter onto it..lol
Will a worn shift shaft cause pop outs and no shifting?
It is possible
I need the exact one that you have but I can’t find it anywhere.😩
Which?
Can I do this on the 150rb without changing the gaskets my bike is a 21
