  • Horner on Checo Perez's future at Red Bull after the Belgian GP: 'We have to recover, we need him'
    -----------------------
Red Bull boss Christian Horner spoke about the situation of Sergio 'Checo' Perez after the Belgian Grand Prix. Perez failed to make the podium despite starting from the front row, finishing in seventh position due to a lack of speed on the straights of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. However, he scored an additional point by achieving the fastest lap.
Horner stressed Pérez's importance to the team, especially in the fight for the constructors' championship. Despite the result in Belgium, Horner stressed that they need Perez to achieve the targets set and halt McLaren's advance, which has narrowed the gap in the constructors' championship.
“Sergio Perez obviously went from second to eighth [place], but with the fast lap we needed. We have to take a good look at it. (Today's) result won't affect anything with Checo. Obviously we want both cars to score. We can see that McLaren has taken another seven or eight points off us today in constructors and we have to stop that. We have to recover after the summer break, so we need Checo. Yesterday he was great in qualifying, unfortunately, today things didn't quite work out,” stated Horner.
These statements reflect the team's continued confidence in Perez and the need for his consistent performance to keep Red Bull at the top of the constructors' standings.
