I had the enormous privilege of meeting Paco and his wife some years ago in London through a friend of mine who had introduced Paco and John Williams when Paco first came to London. What a fabulous guitarist.
And person..
Paco has such personality in his playing.

Just great. Paco has the rare talent - to be a great player, with compas, arte, tone, authentic - and an incredible teacher. He has brought the best out the students and produced a superb performance. The homeage to Paco de Lucia with the falstea, perfectly played by one of his equipo, was a really nice touch. I saw a "fin del curso" once in Cordoba in the 80s - all his students played with an amazing sense of compas and above all, feeling and emotion.

Paco pena is what flamenco is. He is flamenco and flamenco is defined by him. I play classical and I know who defines what. HE IS FLAMENCO WITHOUT DOUBT.

This song is like a dance between Live and Death, a yin yang of sound, a balance between the heavy sorrow of a funeral procession and the bursting joy of a dance party, just like in certain places where a funeral is an excellent excuse for a deserved party, especially if the "difunto" was a mean SOB.

I listen to metal but there's zero chance of someone listening to that to know who Paco is. I listen to almost everything to be honest.

Flamenco and classical are two different types. Flemenco is largley with Andulsian and gintano genre and rhythmatic. Classical is soft, and more so brouque in expression. Fandango is beautiful expression as here.
Paco Pena was amongst the best in his time.

I feel embarrassed to have hands when I watch these guys play because I’m unable to utilise them in this way! 😂 wow! 🤩
Bravo Maestro- mentoring the next generation is vital! I'm no expert either, but can only suggest that the students spend time accompanying the fandangos with a singer. The real duende and cultural context is even more absorbed with lyrics and the ambience of a tablao and cante flamenco. Even an understanding of Spanish doesn't hurt- I remember accompanying a singer while members of the audience laughed. I didn't know the language so couldn't appreciate what was going on...
