Used to work with a guy nicknamed “Big Sam” - just under 6’8” tall with huge barn door sized shoulders - Sam rarely ever got in fights as his size was so intimidating and he was a very good negotiator - one night this bloke was shooting his mouth off at Sam and up quite close - Sam just got one of his baseball glove sized hands and gave this guy a huge shove right in the middle of his chest - the loudmouth tumbled backwards into some bushes and then thought it was wiser to pick another bar to enter and wandered off - 🤣🤣🤣
A bear hug from a large person is such a winning move and,, no blood, bonus. Once we approached a man with a pistol in his belt. My large partner just bear hugged him, carried him to the toilet and I removed the pistol. The man had no chance of drawing it. This is in Australia.
Back in the late 80s, before Oud was a thing in the UK😅, I worked in the clubs during my ccollege years I worked in one club called Bedlam which was inside Blackpool sandcastle centre. This was in the days of the football hooliganism problems. We started having a lot of trouble with away fans coming in and basically trying to smash the place up. Downstairs in the sand castle one of the feature shows they had on was wrestling. So the manager had the idea of hiring some of the wrestlers after hours to come and work the front of house for the doors. Because some of them were very big handy lads. It was more of a visibility thing rather than them having to actually reject anybody. Because they stopped most of the hooligans coming in just by the sight of these big lads. Anyway the point of my story is this. One of these wrestlers was absolutely enormous. His name was Darren. He was one of the biggest guys I’ve ever seen. He was also one of the quietest nicest guys I’ve ever met. Nobody was messing with him he was a good foot taller than anybody else in the place. He went on in his career to become a Lord William Regal. The WWF world champion.
Being honest and owning flaws is a rare respectable quality. It's much more common to see through an obvious bluff or out right catch useless people in a lie at the worst time possible.
Thanks for your great and insightful, real world security stories. My mom, who was was a nurse in a methadone clinic, empathize with your security stories. 😊
Love this series mate. Would also add, alongside this, your travel stories are also interesting. As someone who also travels, the idiosyncracies of different cultures around the world has always fascinated me. Keep up the good work.
It would be great if you could do a "security stories" about unusual experiences, perhaps relating to possible paranormal activity or other unexplainable/strange happenings. I know, aside from things like door work, some kinds of security work involves looking after large derelict industrial premises etc. I once met a guy who had to sit inside a decommissioned & derelict Victorian era psychiatric hospital overnight. Not for everybody but fascinating none the less.
@@thatgearguy Imagine having to go through what these two poor overnight security guards experienced, when guarding the construction site of the Stocksbridge bypass (ua-cam.com/video/XV_V_uVa_Qk/v-deo.html).
Best bouncer I ever had was the largest man I have ever known. Never talked about his height when asked but had to have been 6ft8 if he was an inch. Big huge hands and wide waste with shoulders to match. Had to have been near 400lb. Nicest guy I ever had on security. Seen him get sucker punched full force from a fella who was as big as normal fellas get and just eat it smile and grab dudes wrists. Takes a full grown large man away like a toddler. When his dad died he came in for a drink and put away a case and a bottle before walking away no stumbles. Never saw him take liberties when he definitely could have. Big thing about a giant for a doorman is the average guys 100 is his 50. It lets him deal with things with less fallout because a smaller guy going 100 is more dangerous than the giant going 50.
Could you give the lowdown on that 90s firm 'Pantera Security' (if it no longer exists of course). Remember they looked like complete cowboys and up to no good 😅 but perhaps they were all hat but no cattle for all i know.
You spoke of that boxer I worked with a guy like that and I can say hand on heart if he had not chosen a road that lead to his death he could have been a contender for light heavyweight champ of the world, I remember one particular night he got circled by 4 so called tough guys and I kid you not in under four seconds he knocked all but one of the guys his speed was eerie he did not hit the last guy because he was shitting himself so he gave him the option to leave…….he did.

Did you ever come across Bill “The Bomb” Williams in your door days? He came from Canning Town in the East End.
No but he sounds awesome!
300kg squat? Beast. Out of curiosity, did you use anabolics? No judgement. That's an amazing squat. Respect
