How do you get grass to grow if you don't put the dirt back in.im about to tackle this project at my house in Tennessee
@kennyharper4315 so the dirt you dig out of the hole leave out and you're going to replace it with stone. You can then add like turf onto of that. But that only goes on top, not back into the hole

Robert- I've watched most of your videos, and I'm happy to see the integrity you put into your work. I have a rural property with poor drainage in one area. I have no power. The county drains and roadside drains are also neglected. You mentioned poor dirt in this video. I have the equipment to remove my muddy nasty soil in the wet area. What would you suggest I truck in to replace it with?
That's a loaded question. There isn't a definitive answer to that. Site conditions, what you're trying to achieve, all this plays a role. Most people bring in whatever's most cost-effective in their area.
I think I dug too deep. My trench is 2’ deep, 16” wide and 200’ long. Midpoint is where two 100’ meet at 90°, that’s the highest point and they slop down 100’ in each direction ending each with pop-up emitters. Can you advise wether it’s ok to proceed with the French drain or I should make it shallower please?

When there's one pipe, shortages and materials are scarce, and you have to ration. You still use the same size bucket. You still remove the same amount of dirt. There's just gonna be more stone in place of the pipe. I hope we're through all the shortages. HDPE is plentiful, and there's absolutely no supply chain issues. Will be all double pipe systems moving forward. That being said, I have a vertical double pipe system that won't be seen until July. It's more for DIYers and Yard drain. We have to make this easier for the homeowners, especially if it's just a yard drain and not a french drain.
As long as we don't have World War 3, our catalog will continue growing.

Typically, 5k-10k is where our systems land. This was an add on to an existing system, and we took great care of a repeat customer.
What do you do if the backyard and garage are lower than the street in front, there are neighbors on all 3 sides (no alley) and the backyard pools very badly? This is in Chicago area. Great job here for sure! Thanks.

We had an unusually rainy season here in Maine, and just moved into our newly constructed home last April. After they brought in the loam and seed we had an entire week and a half of just rain. As a result the water cut a natural trench around the back and side of our yard. We want to clean up the trench and install a French drain in the trench. In the backyard we'll just put stone over the top of the burrito fabric, but in the side yard we want to actually tie it in with both sides of the lawn and be able to grow grass over the top. My question is this: since there is no sod, after we burrito the fabric over the top of the stones, would you recommend covering it with loam so we can then lay grass seed and hay? Or should we do sand first and then loam and seed? Thanks so much for any help you can give!!

In a previous video, that I can't seem to find, you mention capillary action. Do you know on average, how far away from the center of that pipe will water migrate into the French drain? Thanks
On average, 7 feet in clay but different soil types change the distance. It's really a loaded question.
Another great video. Is there a connection that ties the two side by side 4"inch corrugated pipes into one 4" pipe so I can have it go into a cement catch basin?

Would you use nonwoven and stone around parts of system that are moving water only, non where the pipe is solid and not perfporated?
That's a loaded question. If the solid pipe is in a French drain, it's going to be in stone and fabric. If it's run on its own and I'm not trying to take in sub-surface water (just moving downspout water or sump pump discharge water), then no.
Thank you for these really helpful videos. About to do our own Diy. One final question, here in uk everyone puts stones below and around the pipe. You don't which would be much cheaper but is there a downside to only using on top? Clay soil here. Thanks in advance.
We can do that because we have holes 360 degrees all the way around the pipe. If you only have holes on the bottom, you must put stone on the bottom.

How do you double punch? I have heard you say that you have your guys do that at the shop.
It's a complex process. I'll have to make a video on it 1 day. It has to be broken down and punch the second time after manufacturing. It's expensive and labor intense.

7ft on average. It's a loaded question. I'm 25 ft apart on large jobs with Parallel French trains.
7 feet apart to 25 feet apart. All depends on-site conditions and how big the area is.
@@FRENCHDRAINMAN that’s fair! It’s a large area across maybe 150 ft by 75 ft with a soft slope on the 75 ft side. Generally flat with a few low spots where water accumulates. It’s on the side of a larger slope so there’s area for the water to go to down hill but it’s just about looking at the best possible layout plan.

So it doesn't fill with stone and cause a sink hole.
Can a French drain end to a pop up? There isn't a way for us to legally connect to a storm drain.
