  • I picked this generator up in 1996 right after hurricane Fran rolled though my street. We went without power for 14 days and to be honest I was lucky to be alive. I bought it for $50.00 as it was "locked up" according to the previous owner. It turns out it has sucked up some screws and they were lodged in the magnet area of the generator. I cleaned it up, changed the filters, oil, and gas, and it has served me well ever since.
It has maybe 200 to 300 hours on it since I bought it and is still all original except for the points, I upgraded it to the newer electronic ignition system in 2015.
After all these years I came across a great deal on a larger unit and have decided to part ways with it, but I will say this. They don't build equipment like this anymore!

I have one that my Dad bought in winter of 1975(date stamp Oct 31, 1975) to use out at our farm at the time to run heat lamps at night for the piglets. I acquired it in 1998 after his death and I converted the four 110 outlets to a single 50 amp plug and made it a full time 240 volt system. Still running the orig points here in Feb 2022. I converted the pull start to use a socket and cordless drill since they have such a hard pull start. I'm in the process of building a propane conversion for it.

Fascinating little thing. I love gensets and would own many different ones if I could. I tend to be more fascinated with smaller ones that are good for carrying about while able to power many things.

My dad had one in the shed. I got around to taking it out today and tried to see if it ran. Had to take the top end off to clean and inspect. Freed up a stuck intake valve, cleaned everything and had it running great. Just gotta tweak the carb to make it quit dripping fuel

They are great little units. I think things were just built better back then. I had it up for sale for a while, but I still have it.

@@FarpointFarms have you had to work on the actual generator part? Mines not producing electricity, and its probably just rusted and dirty, but didnt know if there was something common that broke on them

😅 I'm looking through an old 1976 Eatons catalog, damn. Brigs and stratton engine 👍. Was looking at these gens. And chain saws and everything else. Don't make them like they used to.

I agree that they don't make them like this anymore. They were build to last and last, some of the new stuff today, will last 1 season.

That sounds very heavy when it starts

It's a beast! This thing takes two to carry and makes a racket. Nothing like a modern Generator.

i still have one, but mine is a 2000 watt.
it still works fine, but it's very hard to start.
    it a pull start.
I'm wondering if there is a way I can make the pull easier.
I have had mine for about 10 year.
I had to fix the valve on it, my fault, I had diesel fuel in the gas.
    not a good thing.
that's all I have done with it.

I know this video is a little old but wondering where you found the parts for this unit? I pulled one out of grandpa‘s barn a month ago it runs but not great. Just kind of want to see the old girl working again

Anyone ever hear where to get electronic points for this unit? I have had one for years and would like to replace the points with electronic.

Best thing to do with old generators is start them up every week and let them run 10 or 20 minutes

    • @FarpointFarms
      @FarpointFarms  5 місяців тому

Agreed, people forget to do that and when they need it, it does not work. Not the machines fault, it is operator error

I also have a mcculloch generator it’s a ra120 1200 watt with a Briggs and Stratton 80212 made in 1977 still runs and gives out power

They're isn't info on these because you can convert them to self powered electricly driven and still have the 220v output. Not allowed to do that it upsets the power companies
