I have been watching your videos for a few weeks. They show me my shortcomings. I just rebuilt the injectors and put injector cups in my 7.3 and didn’t check the glow plugs had to take it apart again in December once the weather the weather got cold and it wouldn’t start. I hopefully will learn my lesson. Thanks for sharing
That machine is cool! In the early 1950's my Dad bought one just like this military surplus. We had a "summer home" (a cabin/shack with an outhouse) on a small island in a lake in southern Michigan. He and a buddy slide or drug it over the ice one winter and we used it one summer. He never could get the engine governor to settle down and the thing "hunted" all over the place. Before he had a chance, the next summer or so, someone stole the unit.
That set is more original than I am (fewer replacement parts) and it's only 4 years younger than I am. What a fortunate find, and got into the right hands to take care of it. Thanks for the video!
Nice machine. Back in the mid 80's I bought a similar one, only with a full housing at a farm auction for only $10. It turned over fine. Only problem was that I couldn't take everything home at once. I took the small stuff and was coming back with took to take it apart so I could carry it. By the time I got back an hour later, the junk man they hired to take the remains away, had taken it. He didn't see my number written on top. Should have told the auctioneer that I would have to make two trips but didn't think it would be hauled away.
LOL! Nice driveway.. no sneaking into that place!!🤣 That little Onan is pretty much pristine for a 75 year old generator. Most likely with a little fuel system re-vamping and an oil change, it will be good as new! Would love to see it running.😉👍
Mike, Nice Genset for sure. You should have asked for a tour of that Ol Home it is rich with history. And folks in that area are delighted to let you see their homes. I believe this one is now on the National Register of Historic Homes.
I would have totally snagged it too. Of course, that driveway on a rainy day kind of screams horror movie with you being one of the victims. Glad it all worked out. Can't wait to see it running. I totally wish I had a farm but land is just too dang expensive.
Good job Mike for running to capture this w2-c. I have seen the compressors that these gensets fed. The compressors when running in the 50's ran the milkers with a large stainless flat bottom pot hooked to the milkers from the floor with rubber hoses. Looked sort of like a hookah with red rubber milkers running down to the pot. The compressors always stank of putrifying oil that farmers never changed for fresh. Like vegetable oil only very old.
Some things just have a certain characteristic beauty about them. That radiator shroud and cap certainly draw your attention. What a beautiful little unit. Such a departure from what we see on the shelves today which is usually just a minimalist frame, gas tank, and a pull start Briggs. Very much looking forward to the detailed inspection, pre-startup maintenance, first start and load test.
Hello Mike, thanks for taking us along on a road trip. Have yourself a Happy New Year and great luck to boot. This is just super great find. Look forward to touch base with you this year too.
Great to find you and absorb some information from you. I have had a mate to this unit for close to twenty years and use it as my standby unit. Im sure that with you sharing your expertise will help me with this and any other units I have.
I literally installed a TV in my garage that can wirelessly see your videos, as well as other stuff. That is a beautiful Jen set. Change the oil get it running.
I've got a Fairbanks Morse W3S-531 115-230V 3KW. Looks just like yours. My S/N is: 19.400636. Mine is in excellent, original condition also, except mine is missing the fan guards. Otherwise, everything else is there. Nice find! Onan machines were top shelf back in the day. I've also got a couple old CCK units, a JB engine and an RV unit from the 80's or 90's. It's a shame what Cummins did to the Onan name.
Sitting here stunned here in the UK!! I have one of these to!! Mine is ex military, bought it at an estate sale about 30 years ago. Mine is also in excellent condition and complete with hand crank. There are a couple of very old youtube restoration vids of these units, with impressive results. They sound fantastic! Still amazed to see another on this channel though!
It is a shame that UA-cam doesn't have the ability to post pictures with your comments. Would have been wonderful to see a picture of your version of this generator!
@@mshaw290808mi Indeed so. Being a military version mine has a few differences to this one. Eg, magneto ignition with fully screened plug leads, it looks like this one has coil ignition, also mine has a floating dip stick indicator arrangement so the oil level is always visible. It also has an even larger sump and is skid mounted.
I just saw a documentary on the PBY seaplane. It had an APU that looked similar to this generator. The pby was produced 1936 to 1969. Maybe one could be found for your site.
That's when things were overbuilt made for a life time. Now days with the computer engineering it can be engineered to last a certain number of cycles or use hours of run time etc. And fail and if you abuse it just ever so slightly it fails before the warranty is off
Beautiful condition wow. Such quality from Onan then Look up history of "Frank Onan" .. Beautiful farm.. I think Oil (tar pits ) first discovered in Upstate NY.
That is one very nice find! - I'd love to own that. I do have a 1962 Onan 2kVa (Onan RV2) which actually runs, but needs some work to bring it back to spec, and you can see how even then, the build quality, your machine versus mine, was beginning to slip away. You have a twin cylinder, water cooled engine that will run forever. I have a single cylinder, air cooled engine which will do, but it lacks the appeal of your machine!
Looking forward to seeing this baby running!!! I've got an old onan that has a detroit 6-71 the control unit is removed where could a guy find a schematic to reassemble that thing?
Nice, I got one too, but it's a bit stuck, I paid I think, $100-150, for it, not quite quite as nice cosmetically, but sort of decent, I'll have to post pictures of it on the stak one of these days.
GREAT FIND! Outstanding condition, "original oil" even! I'm amazed at it having a 2 cylinder liquid cooled engine in the possibly 5HP area? Out of curiosity, how much actual power would this unit really deliver? 2kw sounds really conservative, given how robust it is.
I would guestimate by the outlet flip cover brand and box looking of same age, that was put on 30+ years ago, brown color outlets were more popular then as well :) although I'm sure there's new old stock of the stuff still around.
Can’t wait to see this running

Well, it's 4 years older than me.
@@brucejones2354 and it's ten years older than me. Hard to find good stuff that make me seem young these daze! 8-))

Hey Nice find. Yes them clothed battery cables and new battery clamps looks like they tried to get it running. Look forward to updates .
Nice addition to your collection! Love the art deco accent on radiator shell.
can't believe the cloth battery cables are still there, i love old cloth wires, glad to see they're in great shape
Hey Mike , back up and running and enjoying you're videos.
What a beauty Mike, you cannot find them much cleaner or nicer than that. In case you have not heard, old green iron is the thing for 2021!
Nice that you went out and got that classic gen set thanks for your help with saving the classic gen set,s of the past
I would have totally snagged it too. Of course, that driveway on a rainy day kind of screams horror movie with you being one of the victims. Glad it all worked out. Can't wait to see it running. I totally wish I had a farm but land is just too dang expensive.
That should be all the information you need. I hope I helped. I'm a machinist. Love the channel.
I had to pause the video and start reading all those decals!
I knew I couldn't be the only one!
@@RadioMarkCroom I read it also.
Hey Mike that radiator shell is really sharp can't wait to hear it run

She's a beauty Mike - I love all of the fahnestock clips connecting everything in the control box!
Beautiful little vintage unit.👌
It even has beautiful design , well constructed and made to last
I love the detail in design they put in back in the good old days! Nice unit!
So pretty and good condition ! Like the front end of a vintage tractor ! 🥺👌😍
Awesome gen. can't wait to see you fire it up. Thanks 👍🏻
great find Mike , I would get that power receptacle box replaced with something more correct . Sure ENJOYED , Thanks !!
Boy I wish they still built them like that!
That Genny is indeed very nice. It's quite courteous and polite.
Sweet find. Nice little unit.
Wow, Mike thats a great find!
Damn, that is one nice piece!! I look forward to seeing this running!
What a sweet old genset! Nice find!
I've just bought today one of these , exactly the same in the UK, Will be looking for tips etc ongoing , many thanks for the vid
You scored a great find. Looking forward to the video of it running!
Great machine!
And what a property it came from, would fit me really good!
;-)

Stunning. Oh my, perfect condition. The perfect exhibit for a really field. Happy New Year.
Another great video. Thanks for creating a Playlist, makes it so much easier to watch your videos.
And I thought I've had to drive through some backwoods places here in Iowa.
Anyway...Looks like it'll be a fun project.

Nice looking set. Good score

What a gem you found!
Fantastic find and the right person bought it. Looking forward to you getting it up and running. Take it to a show this summer. Thanks for the video
Super cool.... amazing condition for its age. Cannot wait to see it running.
The red oxide primer is coming through. Awesome find!!!!!
Looking forward to the future

Nice unit!! Looking forward to seeing this working.
Sweet find! I look forward to it being put through its paces.
I had one that was at least that nice. The sweetest running thing I ever heard. So smooth.Think mine was a 46 model tagged as Wards.
I just saw a documentary on the PBY seaplane. It had an APU that looked similar to this generator. The pby was produced 1936 to 1969. Maybe one could be found for your site.
Man, what a gem! Great find.
An inline twin cylinder is very rare kinda looks like what a Cushman would be. To take a guess. Can’t wait to see it running again.
Gosh, Mike, You sure know how to pick 'em'.
Great looking machine
"I'm not in the market for this genset but, it came home with me".
Is anybody shocked not me lol. Nice looking shape for its age.
Very nice find.
I like it! Looks like a quality build done with an eye to long life and reliability. Sort of helps that it is the same age as me. LOL
She's a beauty! Nice score..
If we ever loose power we can go to mikes house he will have The power. So awesome mike

This is gorgeous, can't wait to see it running.
Nice find Mike. Looking forward to seeing more of it in other videos.
That's a cool old generator, never seen one like that
this was an excellent score! love the originality of it!
cant wait to see it running.
wish i had the space you do, im a generator nut my self
Going down that driveway was like “Heart of Darkness” or something. Almost want to ask if you found Colonel Kurtz.
Wow! I wonder if you can decipher what was written on the few damaged labels? Should be fun to watch you getting this working!
Can't wait to see it running again!
That thing is awesome ! Can’t wait to see the next video on this...
Not really in the market for a generator.... Well we will get more video of this when we get it back to the shop. ...... LOL Love it.
Beautiful condition wow.
Such quality from Onan then
Look up history of "Frank Onan" ..
Beautiful farm..

Happy new year ,,young man
Someone really took care of that...really nice find!
Can't wait to see & hear it run.
Did you get the hand-crank with it?

WOW ! What a cream puff ! Nice find !
It's cool that it even exists, let alone that it's in pretty good shape.
Lovin the vids. Greetings from Ireland
Green stuff = mouse pee + copper + wadding.....
Looks a real find . Hopefully, given some nice new oil & gas it should run as well as it looks.
My fillings came out going up that road :-)
😂👍
Nice, I got one too, but it's a bit stuck, I paid I think, $100-150, for it,
not quite quite as nice cosmetically, but sort of decent,
I'll have to post pictures of it on the stak one of these days.
I've got the same truck without the FX4 package.
Rides like a forklift, but it's not let me down.
ohh boy the guys on the stak are gona be jealous.. me included! the control box cover on the one i owned was the same way..
Nice one Mike.
I’m sure you’ll get this running real sweet! 🇦🇺🇦🇺🍺🍺
That’s a nice find 👌🏻🙂
Happy new year , Mike!
Beautiful unit!
Back in my neck of the woods once again!
6:11 the juxtaposition makes it look positively tiny over there compared to the bigger brother in the back. :))
Can’t wait to see you fix it up and hear it running

That green powder made me think of ratpoison.
Not bad shape. And of course, mice will always find their way in the smallest hole in equipment.
That outlet box looks like a recent addition. I don't think they were that safety conscious back in '45.
