Interesting he does not provide the difference between History books Vs Historical Nonfiction books but mentions 2 names Manu Pillai & Ira Mukhoty, both of them falls under Historical Nonfiction category & not in History books per se.
Think why he hid the above technical detail.

Just a guy who hates intellectual maneuvers, games & lies, votes NOTA & is a non-conformist {regarding groups beliefs}.
Hi Sorabh could you please try and bring Jeffrey Archer on the stream. Love this stream, thank you for doing this!😁
hes wrong about the numbers it didnt come from Ashoka
After Manu S Pillai I thought you couldn't get a better podcast but this beats it hands down. Great work Sorabh! KV - your a genius
I haven't been able to catch up with a lot of these because I've gotten busy but I just love these historians you bring. They have the best stories.
Thanks for inviting William Dalrymple. He is my favourite author. I have read some 8-10 books (all historical non fiction) since lockdown started. The first book i read was "The Last Mughal", i read it in March. It is insanely researched book. I'm Bombayite but i loved it. If you're Delhite, you're ought to read it once. His City of Djinn and Nine lives are also equally good but those are more of a travelogue.
I think any city anywhere in the world is interesting to read all kinds of history :).
@@pantonfire yes ditto. But history is not that genre which everyone likes to read. Especially in developing countries like ours where everyone's eyes are on future and no one's want to look back. I know people who are quite an avid reader but won't read history. If you start reading history of the place/ city you live in or region from your ancestors come from or history of caste which you are born in, that might attract you to read history more. Also, I've read more stuff on the city of Delhi than your and mine city of Bombay. There are no work you will find (please suggest if you know), written on 19th century Bombay and it's people. Whereas, Delhi has lot of works written / portrayed from same period. Weather Charles Metclaf's Delhi book or his daughter's childhood which she spent in Delhi in 1850s. Or William Fraser's birlliant work on portraying Delhi monuments in 1820s. So when you go there near Kashmiri Gate or Old Delhi, it gives you goosebumps. Sadly there are no work on Bombay whatsoever from that period.
William Dalrymple❤️ ... My favourite historian. I fell in ❤️ with his work after reading City of Djins and Age of Kali.....❤️.. thanks for bringing him ❤️
It is sad that I have to say this but as many of us, even I didn't get to learn much about history in school. Wake up with Sorabh has been a wonderful experience so far. From entertainment to being informative, it truly covers everything. The important takeaway for me personally from watching all the interviews of the historians is that it has developed so much curiosity in me to read and learn more about our history and the history of the world that we live in. Thanks, Sorabh for doing this.
Thank you for this!
It was such an interesting and hugely informative discussion for me.
And all that KV summarised was exactly what I felt after listening to Dalrympke speak about his ongoing work.
Thank you so so much for this.
I think KV should be a de facto member of all your history panels.
Stole my exact words about the forts in Maharashtra. Instead of fighting about what title to use for your idols it would be better to maintain their work.
louis ck was amazing!!!
Underrated comment xD
22:28 probably one of the smartest lines I've heard, and yeah I'm rewatching cause I couldn't continue watching live
Thank you so much for bringing Mr William Darlymple. Reading his book is one thing and listening to him is 10 time more joyous experience.
Please bring Jofra Archer and discuss about future .
Lol
Nice.
I can bring his Twitter account.
This is very random, but when you said Vivekananda died young, you reminded me of a video which said we should not gauge a persons life span with the number of "actual years" they lived, rather gauge them by the number of achievement they have done in their lifespan. A person who lived 90 years, his lifespan might not even equate to the life span of an achiever who lived only 30 years. Quality matters
William Darlymple is my favourite author. I always used to hate history during my school days. Part of the problem was the curriculum which treated it just as "re-collection of facts that happened in the past". But, this man changed that for me. I like his storytelling a lot.
I dont think there is any historiam who put out such detailed and meticulous research like william darlymple big fan of ur work sir
Loved this conversation. His next book sounds amazing. Can't wait for it!
Really enjoyed this session! Sorabh- Thank you for taking our feedback regarding superchats. Great going!!
Came for KV stayed for both!
Always a good idea :).
William has a very scratchy internet... Didn't understand a good 10-15 minutes of the interesting discussion. Sorabh you have undoubtedly the best set of guests among all the streams happening right now
This was great Sorabh! Please bring Romila Thapar ji if you can. Also can't stress the importance of investment in public libraries in this country. Kids are forced to sit on floors of library even in developed well planned cities like chandigarh.
It is THIS episode with William Dalrymple that made me subscribe to your channel. Thanks for inviting him.
I owe him a subscription.
And a returning viewer asking for more! Keep up the good work. If you ever decide to share, please make a video about what the process of bringing a guest can look like. I know there’s a hustle in there somewhere. Thanks again.
Get Jamie more often for ipl n cricket related conversation... He is just so good with his... Views..
Jamie should be back for an IPL chat in a couple of weeks :).
William should do a masterclass on Indian history like one of those " The Great courses " series.
Dalrymple is my favorite author . Thanks Sorabh :)
Invest in museums and libraries for the advancement of society!
I love these history episodes. Hoping there will be more in the future.
i enjoyed watching it till 54 minutes baaki kha i will watch when i get time. Love listening from such people..
Dhanyavad. Let me know - how you enjoy.
@@pantonfire ya we enjoyed..
It's so weird my birthday gift arrived today and it was a book by him. The Anarchy. Coincidence heights.
Is it possible for Stephen King or Dan Brown to come on the stream? I loved the book “The Last Mughal”!!! It was the only reason I loved the Mughal empire chapters in history classes. Thanks Sorabh Sir, for helping us to learn about amazing authors personally, and their upcoming works. And Kumar sir is amazing as always.
U can also try to get the cast or atleast some of the people from pariwar
Figuring the same, exact thing.
Sourabh bhai!!!! This was one of the most informative of your podcasts 😊
Thank you for doing this ❤️
Gaffe by KV, Cholas, Pandyas Cheryas all had separate multiple chapters in NCERT books, they still have them. The reason he might have forgotten that is they were taught from 7th standard because the books move in a chronological order. Anyways Big fan @Sorabh Pant and obviously needless to mention KVs knowledge spectrum is vast and great
Such an eye opener this podcast!
Great episode Sorabh... can you try getting Sidin Vadukat on the podcast ?
Enjoyed this immensely! Thank you Sorabh 🙂 for such great talks that are educational and entertaining during this lockdown. 👍🏼👍🏼 Kumar Varun is the perfect guest to hold a great conversation with such experts!
Talking about museums, once you travel again and if you get a chance to go to Jaipur and you have some time on your hand, I would strongly recommend going to the Albert Hall museum. It's beautiful aesthetically and also showcases a lot of national and international artifacts. ❤️
Sorabh, I have never seen you so quiet in your own podcast😊 Imagine an episode with William, Vipul Goyal and Cyrus Broacha - the nonstop chatter would unleash energy greater than the Sun. Great to hear another historian on your podcast. I am 56 and studied in an ICSE school in Bombay in the 70s before moving to the US in the 90s. We had the best history education that our teachers brought to life and in fact took us to South India for a cultural visit in the 9th where we saw Brihadeswara temple in Thanjavur, the sculptures at Mahabalipuram and so much more. History is anything but boring. Thanks for the wonderful guests.
Brilliant discussion that needs to trigger action - how we should indeed display nationalism.
Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for this episode 💖
Try to bring Chuck Palahniuk, writer of "Fight Club". He has recently launched his new book The invention of sound so he might be open to the interview.
By the way thanks for bringing WD as well.
good talk
Why is Live Chat Replay not available for every video?
Along with Jaby, you should get these guys from this channel #OurStupidReactions - very funny & insightful as well
22:10 is simple facts and shows the reality of social media
William Dalrymple & KV are ❤️
eeeeeeee...cant contain the excitement.... cant wait to get hold of his new four volume book on Buddhism, expansion and spread of mathematics idea and knowledge from India to other Asian countries.... i just cant, i just cant, just cant , just cant :D
If u like filter coffee, try Narasu instant coffee, if in Bombay, u might get in Chembur or try getting it online.
Now everything in the world is online only :). Will check if it's available. Thanks.
@@pantonfire True, but usually this brand is tough to get.
Hey KV, Murud Janjira was never conquered by Marathas and was always under Siddis, which according to my knowledge, only came under 'India' after independence. Marathas tried multiple times to conquer Janjira but failed. In attempt to win Janjira, new fort called Padmadurga was getting built on another island nearby which you can see from Janjira. Sambhaji Raje was looking after the construction of Padmdurg but unfortunately Mughals captured Sambhaji Raje and Padmdurg remained in backdrops after that. I might be wrong here and there, you can always read and verify online.
Looks a lot like Louis CK
KV book club anyone? anywhere?
