I am not sure, but I will have a talk on this topic on Friday. carmattu.wpengine.com/ronkko-2023-webcast-lecture/ I will post the talk on the channel too.
Thank you for the video! Do happen to know if there is any papers that outline what the appropriate correlations are for convergent and discriminant validity?
My paper on discriminant validity should journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/1094428120968614 be helpful. It is open access. As far as I know, there is no accepted standard for convergent validity. I also do not think that it is applicable to most studies because, as originally defined, convergent validity is about maximally different measures. Normally, we would use (assumed to be) parallel measures that are very similar. In this case the commonly used convergent validity statistics are actually reliability statistics.
I will post some material related to this topic in the near future. I have had the slides prepared for a long time but there have been other priorities.
PLEASE, Is exploratory factor analysis the same as convergent and discriminant validity? I am a little bit confused. Thanks in advance for your reply. Should we do both convergent and discriminant validity, construct validity using EFA in one study?
EFA is an analysis technique. Convergent and discriminant validity are attributes of application of measurement process that can be assessed with multiple techniques, including EFA. Construct validity is another attribute of measurement that is assessed differently. (I have a video where I explain construct validity.)
@@mronkko Thanks for your reply. I am using SPSS software. WWhat do you suggest please to check the validity of my questionnaire? i tought that EFA or PCA are used to check the construct vaidity.
@@mronkko Hi Mikko. I read your article two times. But I could not understand how to conduct a discriminant validity via Lisrel. Can you upload a video showing exactly what do you do via pictures?
Gotta say, I’m loving these overviews. Jam packed with useful nuggets. Appreciate it!
You are welcome!
At the end of the video You say you talk about how to approach convergent and discrimination validity properly in a later video - which video is that?

@@kossonouprunelle7576 PCA is not useful for measurement validation. EFA + Coefficient alpha is a solid beginner's solution.
Thanks man

You can find LISREL syntax for the analyses in the online supplement journals.sagepub.com/doi/suppl/10.1177/1094428120968614
