Leo Messi's genius is there to see, but until recently, Musa Okwonga struggled to see just how Iniesta was so magical on the pitch.

This is the most accurate description of Iniesta that I had ever heard. Brilliant.

Back in 1999, Guardiola was still playing in midfield for Barca and he had been joined in the dressing room at that time by a young Xavi. Watching a 15-year-old Iniesta in action in the Nike Cup, Guardiola turned to Xavi and said: "You will retire me, but this kid will retire us both."
That's also what Bergkamp said to Henry after seeing Lord Bendtner

I'm loving this series. Since you've already done Alves, Messi and Iniesta - how about Busquets? He's been instrumental to Barca's success for years.
Paperbagman555 they all seem to be Barca haha, but I totally get it, they were/are phenomenal
Would love to see Xavi too :)
I know haha there are endless Barca players Tifo could pick. Though I do think Busquets is especially interesting because of his mental attributes. He reads the game on another level to most. Man, I don't know how the Spanish consistently churn out so many class midfielders. It's fascinating to me how each European country has their 'famous position' - I.e. Italian defenders, Portuguese wingers, German goalkeepers etc.

He does regularly
Yeah, i’m a huge Barça fan and yes Iniest was always our second Messi that nobody expected.
All the players who played with him, say he’s the closest one in terms of ball control and genius.
That’s why we won trophies. Because we had multiple players that could carry the danger.
Not just one dangerous player, and all the rest are automatically ball receivers.

Numbers never tells anything. No are all but tools. It's who interpret no. Gave meaning to them.

About 12 years ago, I told a friend: Messi is like an action movie - incredibly fun to watch, defying the laws of physics, doing the impossible. Iniesta is like poetry - very subtle, but if you understand it is so beautiful it might bring a tear to your eye
This is similar to David Silva. David is our incognito agent without whom we'd never function the way we have all these years. Still is mostly not the given any awards or even the deserved recognition by both his fans & others alike. Earlier Yaya or Kun would snatch the headlines, now it's Kevin. But David is the most instrumental of all.
Good thing Iniesta is at Barca or people would've missed something big like they do with David.

Lol, being at Barca has little to do with it. Iniesta is getting recognition now because he's leaving and people are realizing what they're going to miss. When he was still young and kicking, most people glossed over him just like David Silva

coming back to watch this video again after 2 years, still getting goosebumps!
"armed only with a drop of a shoulder and a first touch as soft as cotton woll he upstagged even lio messi"
im loving the art for these, really should be made in poster size
"He doesn't control the ball, he absorbs it." Or words similar. Great phrase for an astonishingly great player.
wow i mean just wonderful this one as usual made sense brilliantly described
Wow, this video is incredible. Absolutely beautiful stuff.
It reminds me of the first time I saw Iniesta in person. Barcelona v Levante in 2007. Ronaldinho was World Player of The Year. 19 year old Messi had just scored a hat-trick against Real Madrid, and that wonder goal against Getafe, and his greatness was beginning to be understood. But as my dad and I watched the game, it was clear that No. 24 (who my dad had never heard of before that game) was running the show. Not necessarily obvious on TV, but in person, watching him off the ball, and when he received it, it was clear that he was running the show - not Ronaldinho, Messi, Eto'o, or even Deco or Xavi.
More than 10 years ago I was telling my friends that Iniesta was almost as good as Messi, and better than Zidane, they all laughed at me. The description of Iniesta's genius in the above clip is a brilliant one, as it is indeed extremely difficult to explain to someone who has not watched him with extreme concentration what exactly it is that makes him so great. I still remember a La Liga game from 08/09 against Villarreal at the Camp Nou (3-3) in which Keita gave an immensely lousy ball to Iniesta, it was extremely overhit as well as way too high, yet Iniesta controlled it with some kind of karate move I will never understand. I still remember that play more than 10 years down the line, it was so inexplicable.
I remember it
Of course they laughed at you because its not true. Zidane is still the better player overall. But Iniesta is in the same category of players like zizou, they are magicians on the pitch and they show us that statistics ain't the most important thing in football.
Its not a coincidence that barca gets raped in ucl every year since Iniesta and xavi quit. Even with messi on the pitch. They were more important than Messi. Its a shame that iniesta and xavi didn't get ballon dor. They deserved it both but the media and shitfanboys inflated messi and cr too much
I also told this to friends over a decade ago with the same reaction.
@@_sayan_roy_ such a unique player. We will never see his likes again.
@@ManuSlzno No Zidane is not a better player than Iniesta. Iniesta was far more consistent and had a superior career with probably even more iconic moments than Zizou.
This is the best channel on UA-cam I swear
It's a shame that attackers these days are overrated and midfielders are usually underrated (along with defenders and goalkeepers)
True dat
Not true
False
Funny how Van Dijk changed all of that but people still say he's not as good as Vidic
this happens because of the media...comparisons like messi-ronaldo....even playmakers like hazard are criminally underrated

Andres iniesta is my favourtie player since like 2008
I've felt like crying listening to you talking about him in a poetic way
Amazing video man
Can't be described better. Legend of the game. Scholes and Pirlo next please!
I watch this video every time I remember Iniesta and his greatness. This is truly poetry in video form.
An elegant piece of writing befitting an elegant player. Beautiful ❤.
Thank you. Thank you much for this. A dull video of you telling this story, sitting in front of your camera would’ve been enough for me. This artistic production surely does the genius of Andrés Iniesta proud. The visuals, the sound and the words .. Thank you again.
I remember watching an international friendly when Spain came to South Africa. A pitch full of players who had just won the World Cup not even 6 months earlier and something about Iniesta just seems a cut above. He is an amazing player.
This is poetry at it's finest. Sublime video of a remarkable player. Simply amazing.
I am fan of barcelona because of their teamwork and Andres Iniesta. Simply Word Class. Thank You tifo fooball for making amazing tacticts videos. they are for gaining my fooball knowledge. thank you tifo. Namaste!
I'm dabbing my eye, friend. This is the player I will pine for in my old age. The most beguiling talent ever. Don Andres, gracias.
This is the Michelangelo of commentaries -- the beauty of Iniesta's Stature , sculptured with words, douses me with joy and adoration. Great work. It's relieving and therapeutic in the midst of a COVID Pandemic.
Love your video. I think iniesta's game is a reflection of him as a person. Humble, yet so confident, he doesn't need people's praise.
Simple people are fascinated by sophisticated things, and sophisticated people and fascinated by simple things. I think it's impossible I will ever like another player as much as I like Iniesta.
This is so beautiful. Best description of ‘The Illusionist’ I've ever heard ❤️
you have to complete the trilogy now with xavi
KUSHTEA xavi and sergio
This is simply the best UA-cam video I've seen after "Lionel Messi : God amongst men". It is a shame that it hasn't got million hits till now. But as the video says, it is oddly fitting that it hasn't become as viral as I would have wanted. Afterall, that's what legends are all about. You only feel their absence once they are gone. And no matter how hard we try, nobody can ever replace them. Once the realisation comes, it is already too late.
I felt immense pleasure and privileged to have watched Iniesta play in my lifetime. And I thank Musa Okwonga for putting this brilliant piece together to tell us what Iniesta means to football fans who are above stats, championships, cups, etc. and enjoy the game for what it is.
Scholes is another I'd put in that bracket... never came near lamps and Gerrard in many stats but his influence on the game was harder to define... his punditry alas is not at the same high quality as his playing
Thomas Putt exactly and that's why I consider him better than Lampard and Gerrard.
Yehp I always wondered how someone so brilliant can never get noticed but of course it took Pep's system for the English media to realise what Scholes does for the the team is nothing short of genius. He was always better than Gerrard and Lampard they too were undoubtedly world class. However, scholes was class and elegance not statistical megaheads like Gerrard or Lampard but beautiful to watch and was just so naturally gifted as well and technically better. It's not a shame he played in England he had a fantastic career with one the greatest clubs of all time and he made them tick. It's more of a shame that the minds of the British don't realise how great it is to sometimes be simple yet effective. I will never put Scholes in the same bracket as Gerrard and Lampard he should be with the bracket of Xavi, Pirlo, Iniesta and so on.
United were able to play a 442 which was a 2-2-6 in reality for so long because scholes would pick up the ball no matter the pressure and recycle it so effectively. Key to winning so many titles so consistently. When you get a player like that there’s only a handful in world football so you can’t let them go.
Iniesta is in a league of his own. Then comes xavi Scholes etc
@@AM-dx7ev Scholes was amazing. But I'd actually put him alongside Gerrard than Xavi. His game can be described as anything but "elegant". He was a hardworker. He was all muscles and drive. A good thing no doubt. But not what Lampard did. Explains his yellow/red cards for instance
This is brilliant. I had a very similar experience watching Barca play the very strong Malaga side that had made the CL. Iniesta was mesmerising, everything that happened went through him. Saw them again, this time playing Levante, and focussed on him, he defies description whilst seemingly not doing anything particularly flashy. Easily the best player I’ve ever watched.
Good god, some Iniesta shots are so recognizable that you recognize him in these scribbles. Amazing, the man, and the art.
I'll always maintain that Iniesta was the 2nd best player in the world during the Messi years.
I like how you said”other than xavi” thanks for giving him the respect he deserves. He and Iniesta are sailing on the same boat.
Dude, you gave me goosebumps as you described Andres Iniesta (Don). Hoping to find myself, to see him in person just one time either playing or just in front of my eyes. He truly is a master class just as how Xavi was and Messi is, they are the reason a young boy who learns about football fall in love with the game and the team. Seeing their dedication and loyalty towards Football Club Barcelona makes one wonder how such great players were never moved by money but stayed to see their retirement in a club as such.
Iniesta is selfless.
hauntingly beautiful and poetic. the construction of the full image from unknown numbers of subtlety perfectly depicts the beguiling genius of Iniesta. incredible
My personal favourite player. Iniesta is a joy to watch when on the pitch, so elegant, such control, being able to get out of any situation with the ball under his control no matter how tight it is and no matter how many players are closing him down. Great vid!
The most underrated world class player, absolute genius on the ball, humble off the pitch, has won everything, and I will never forget that run against PSG, where he left 3 players on the floor and passed the ball literally through the middle for an empty net goal by Neymar - minimalist in touches, but he makes every single movement absolutely worth it!
Probably the best football youtube video I have ever watched. The tribute is as beautiful and profound as the way he played. I hope Iniesta has seen this and I hope it brought a tear of joyous reflection and proudness.
This was simply wonderful.
I still remember the article as well, didn't think I'd see it on a video once, but it was brilliant again. Thankfully, since the article I had the pleasure to witness his magic live twice! You desrcibed him beautifully.
I watched Barcelona live in the flesh probably the same year as this guy and could've almost said the same thing, he and Messi dominated the field, making Neymar look like a showpony and Suarez look like a tap in scorer. Iniesta got an assist i think, he and Messi both went on crazy dribbles but that personally wasn't the stand out moment. For me the stand out moment of Iniesta in that match was the way he made a fake run for Pique, knowing that he wouldn't get the ball and without even checking his shoulder and then watching Messi drop into the space created by him and assist a goal. Iniesta didn't even touch the ball but without him that goal wouldn't have been scored. 2009/10 Barcelona will never be beaten, Iniesta, Pique and Messi are the last of that team and the level of communication that was still present between them three was sublime, I've seen Ronaldo, Adama Traore, Salah, Coutinho, Mane, Rooney and Tevez play live but nothing compares to Messi and Iniesta. I walked into that game wanting to see Neymar flick it over someones head and Messi score a free kick and left the game flabbergasted at the dribbling and intelligence of Messi and Andres, Legends.
Iniesta is one of my favourite midfielders and one of the best midfielders
Best Spanish player of all time 😍
Alpha Omega Xavi Hernández
Beautifully written; probably one of the best examples of sports journalism. Love the art as well, very fitting style given the Catalan team.
He was better than Xavi. Xavi could find the pass but he didn’t have the silk that iniesta had that made him effective going forward and in tight situations.
Iniesta is a genius with an extremely sharp intuition. He reads the game and every player supremely well. This is why you can never floor him. He eludes you before you even attempt a move towards him. How often have you seen him on the grass? He belongs to one of my top 2.
This video is Art. I don't really know what else to say about this.
Why did you guys stop making these videos ?
I watch this video every few years.
This is the best UA-cam channel I've ever subscribed to. Everything you guys produce is Gold, and you really highlight the beauty and artistry of Football. Been subscribed for over a year now or so, had to say Thank you for all the videos you guys bring out
Absolutely outstanding video. One of the greatest. What's the music?
Iniesta only scores the most important goals because he comes out and realizes if I have supported the whole team to score and nobody could then I must. This is the difference from Messi who is a genius of everything but because he’s not a natura midfielder he doesn’t control the pace of the game as much, Messi is still very good at this but he always wants to speed it up too quickly often it works though because his passes are perfect. What Messi lacks is that feeling of well if no one else can then I will, because usually he’s making so many of the shots already that the “if nobody else can” is usually already 90% him. This is why Iniesta is Spain’s most important player ever and Messi isn’t Argentina’s, aside from the huge gap in talent across the team. Messi is still the best player of all time, I’m just explaining the nuance between them
Best comment ever 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😢😢😢😢😢
wow i am a huge messi fan, your comment is spot on

I'm sorry. But this is really rubbish. I'm honestly not being biased towards Messi, but this was intolerably stupid.

I still think this is the most beautiful video made on a specific football player...Tifo should do more of this..
He's wizard WIZARD with the ball... one of the finest of CLASS and a Humblest of HUMAN♥️💯
We need more of this!
During the last season in the match between espanyol and barca the entire pitch was flooded with water due to rain. The ball could hardly be passed on the ground and dribbling with the ball was near impossible, even messi couldn't move with the ball but iniesta did. He excellent in that match he glided above the water with the ball, it was amazing to watch.

Sergio Busquets is probably the greatest CDM of this generation.

As a Barcelona fan, I just jump to watch this video with all the amazing and accurate wording, makes me miss these amazing days in camp Nou.😭😭 they played beautiful football
This is the best football related video on all of UA-cam
Don't know how I missed this one. Love ur channel and Iniesta is one of my all time faves. Great job!
I whatch old soccer games, as old and as many as I can find. I have seen all the great dribblers of the past like Rivelino, Zico, Elkjaer, Littbarski, Laudrup brothers, Zola, Ortega, Florian Albert and less known players like Emmerich, Libuda, Held. But none, no one does it with the same ease and grace as Iniesta and no one needs so little space and such small touches to beat multiple defenders. Sure Iniesta had so many quite games, but when his teammates needed him the most he won the games by himself - Spain vs Chile, Spain vs Holland, Barca vs Chelsea and so on. The best dribbler of all time in my opinion and one of the most successful players in history for sure.
One of the best written football pieces, I will come back just to hear this description again and again. His touch is a lullaby 😍
Reminds me of the the Great Scottish number 6 of Glasgow Rangers Jim Baxter .
A true genius his play makes the heart skip a beat
I'm so enjoying every second of it. tifo football at its best.
What an beautiful loveletter to Andres Iniesta.
I have goosebumps.
The one time I went to the Nou Camp I got to watch them all before kick off. In the match, I was stunned by Iniesta. Just impeccable control of the ball. As Mourinho said in his scout report for Andres, he had an incredible radius of action. From that day on he's been my favourite ever footballer. Just the technique and composure, plus that little burst of speed he had. Just magic. I am grateful to have seen that man play
This video reminded me of a few years back when a relatively “poor” team (I don’t remember who) managed a 0-0 draw against Barcelona. When they asked the manager how he stopped Messi he said it was impossible to stop him and that what they did was focus on neutralizing Xavi and Iniesta.
Pure poetry! Loved it, keep it up. From Mozambique
Even though it may seem like Iniesta hasn't had many career assists, he has more than Zidane, Pirlo, Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard, Giggs and so many more.
Invests made the bar a system work.
He linked the defence to the midfield and the midfield to the strikers as well as getting wide and beyond the strikers.
Iniesta was the barca ststem-it was predicated on his play making.
Messi was the first violin but iniesta conducted the orchestra.
Great video! awesome graphic design and writing! love this channel!!!
I have never heard more beautiful prose used for a footballer than in this video. Marvellous - such a pleasure to listen to. Thank You!!
This is my favorite football channel by a million miles. All of you tell such breathtaking stories of what would seem a mundane topic. Well done
wonderfully written. great listen
Iniesta, Xavi, Zidane - probably the finest 3 midfielders I've ever seen. They're all different types of players but the similarity is the ability to receive the ball in any situation, be comfortable with it and the make the right decision every time. That's what allows you to turn the possession into an attack, by drawing the opponents midfielders while always retaining possession.
Great voice...
Great writing...

This is a moving piece on a truly remarkable player. Aside from Cruyff, there is perhaps no other player who embodies Barca DNA like Iniesta
