I actually missed the armin jumpscare but i heard carlie's "He Full Armin'd Ross" at 7:35 the first time and I did a spit take trying to rewind to make sure I heard that right
The transmutation circle on Roy' glove lets him increase the oxygen in a specific area, and the special fabric it's made out of makes a spark when he snaps his fingers (like the flint in a lighter that ignites it.) Depending on the desity of the oxygen, he can control the temperature of the flames or turn it into an outright explosion.
"Wait a secoooooond" has to be my favorite reaction to this scene lmao. Mitsubishi is brutal. Just an FYI, it can't be Envy disguised as Roy because Envy can't perform alchemy at all.
@@loka7783Fair point but counterpoint: using something like dynamite wouldn't exactly leave an intact charred body that is akin to Roy's blame alchemy; he doesn't blow people up but torches them. A flamethrower would have been a better exactly, though then you're talking something super cumbersome that Envy-Roy couldn't dispose of/hide that quickly. lol
@@Mrryn Methinks the only way it could be possible is is Envy had help, someone to pass the flame thrower off to, the act as a distraction from that person running away with the weapon. Given that Envy doesn't seem to have much of a history of working with humans at this point that's unlikely. A better weapon might be phosphorous grenades but admittedly I don't know enough about them to say whether or not they could exist in that world or not.
Getting on this early, some people may tell you to skip episode 27 because it's a "Recap Episode". These people are smooth brained. It does recap stuff sure but it also gives you a lot of insight into Ed and Al's father
I've watched FMAB so many times. I finally convinced my brother to watch it w me (he made fun of me for watching anime when we were kids) I thought about skipping the episode when we got to it. But then we started it while I fished around for timestamps we could maybe watch during it. But I eventually gave up and we watched the whole thing cause I realized just how important it is to have all of it together
oh yeah, there's definitely moments when this story just jerks you left right and centre without stopping and this is tame compared to some stuff coming up

The gloves are inlaid with flint, so when he snaps his fingers it creates a spark. The Alchemy he performs with the embroidered circle then alters the chemical composition of the air around that spark to ignite a flame, which gives him the ability to control its power and trajectory.

He makes a spark with his special gloves lined with an element that creates a spark when he snaps phosphorus i think like a match when snapping his fingers then with the circle / array and the knowledge of flame alchemy he controls the resulting flames in whatever way he wants for the moment they last. Thats why his flame alchemy is useless on rainy days his gloves get wet and can’t make a spark like a wet match. Still being an alchemist he has more tricks as he had to master the basics before his special bran of flame alchemy so like any decent alchemist he can just do regular alchemy with whatever.

Just confirming that yes Ling is really only 15 years old, if memory is correct from when I read the manga, he's actually younger than Ed who just turned 16. He's just very mature (at times) for his age.
(spoilers for the next episod) roy need to send ross out of the country & ching is one of the few nearby countries not in war with theirs thats why in the next episod ed find ling's servent taking ross to ching in the desert it was pre planed before i thought it wasnt
technically it's because Mustang was looking for information about Xingese Alkahestry, which Barry overheard while they were discussing recent events while interrogating him (the anime cuts out most of the interrogation scene), and decided Ling might know something about it since he's from Xing and brings him along to score some brownie points with Mustang. (they used the scene in episode 1, except it's Mustang talking to Hughes about it instead of Falman, since he had Falman do research on local dissident groups to see if they might be involved with Hughes's murder and the topic came up during the investigation). Mustang was planning to stash Ross out east with Grumin in the short-term and then think up a more long term solution later due to the rushed nature of the operation. However Ling falling into their laps changed plans a bit, which is why he lets Armstrong stay out the loop for longer than he originally intended to help sell the performance.

It always bugged me how the prison guards' weapons are such a minor thing to Barry that he doesn't even seem to notice them, but when Hawkeye shot him that was a huge problem for him.
Probably less the bullets themselves and more the psychological angle. With the prison guards Barry knew he was going into a fight; getting shot at by a prospective victim who was totally unfazed by him caught him by surprise.

I had to stop reading the manga after I got to this part. After Nina & Hughes and then Maria Ross, I thought the series was taking a dark turn I was not comfortable with. Was only years later I picked it up again just before Brotherhood and felt silly immediately afterwards.
theres small things here and there that the dub gets wrong, not enough to ditch it but one thing that bothers me is when hawkeye requests to leave. in the japanese version shes professional the whole interaction until the final part, which is supposed to be the punchline when she slams his door close, showing that she was actually furious the entire time. in the dub she sounds angry the entire time which isnt as good as a payoff when she slams the door shut.
It's Carlie at the early episode forget Mustang's name, maybe she remember it as some sort of car brand (Mustang is a car brand if I am not mistaken) so they just call it Roy Mitsubishi for a while, apparently until now 🤣
