The mind of a Beatle. Sir Paul never stopped growing his imagination. This entire album is great. Ahhhh, the seventies....
1st album I bought. Think I just turned 10. Pop was good back then.
Not a beatles fan but I do have some fond memories from this wings album.
I had a ball growing up in the 70's
3 songs in one
Yes
This was one of the iconic songs of the '70's, everyone who listened to the radio knew it, and it hit #1 in the U.S. in 1974
When I hear this, Jet, and Uncle Albert I think of the 70s
Live and let die and my love
Quintessential 70s album definitely.
Sure but weak.
Paul McCartney is a genius, and this is one of the best song ever created, period.
And yet, the conversation seemed more centered on the trivial video and words. What about the genius arrangement of the three distinct musical passages? Each one could have been a song in their own right.
@@fuchsiaswing8545 My favorite is the "middle song..." The Foo Fighters really rocked that up without being blasphemous.
@@fuchsiaswing8545 The style of having distinctly different sections all together in 1 song is one of my favorite thing about 70s music. I grew up with it so it's 'normal' to me, but watching younger music reactors, they're always really shocked/confused with it, but are generally blown away once they 'get' it.
I don't think so. Period.
@@unclebobunclebob Fond memories of listening to this getting ready for school in the morning in Austin, Texas. Cool sonically, but the lyrics are dumb af
This was Paul McCartney’s “do-it-all” record. Outside of Denny Laine, everyone in Wings had quit before heading to Nigeria for recording. Paul practically plays everything here.
He did that on his first two solo albums as well, "McCartney" and "Ram."
@@porflepopnecker4376 Indeed! He plays a lot on Ram, arguably his greatest album, but Denny Seiwell plays drums on every track, and David Spinozza plays guitar on a few songs. As for his first solo album, he played everything, but nowhere near results as on Band on the Run.
Who would quit being in a band with McCartney? What's the story behind that I wonder. Was he a huge jerk or something?
@@pnwajs3532 The story I heard was that Paul had decided to go to Lagos in Nigeria to record the album, and the drummer Denny Seiwell and guitarist Henry McCullough didn't want to go, so they quit. They missed out on one of the most successful albums of the seventies.
Don’t forget about lovely Linda
Tremendous album. Worth listening to more of Wings.
Absolutely. The first album I ever bought.
The most important songwriter of the 20th century.
McCartney is life!!!
Sorry, I have to go with Warren Zevon.
@@gvbezoff Sorry Ray Davies is my choice
Bob Dylan says hello
Leo Sayer? JK
Pink Floyd has him beat.
Brad&Lex: you'll love their outstanding "Maybe I'm Amazed", "Silly Love Songs" and many more!!
Ever hear the Red House Painters version of 'Silly Love Songs'? It's totally different, but TOTALLY awesome too! One of my fave songs of all time! Check it out on YT! ua-cam.com/video/EHqb4O_W_Tg/v-deo.html
Great choices! I would also add "Helen Wheels" as an obscure classic from Wings. Say bye-bye. BYE-BYE 🤣
You forgot "Jet"
and "Roll It" and "Nineteen Hundred Eighty Five"
@Bookhouse Boy Yeah, I guess I was thinking obscure because it was left off "All the Best".
There is a reason that The Beatles in general, and Paul in particular, are considered the greatest musicians of the 20th century
and what is that?
George Harrison was the Beatle with the most talent.
@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 Talent, charisma, genius, never resting on their laurels.
@@Bigdong-kl2fh boy band perhaps.
@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 I detect some jealousy
Other hits from this album: "Jet" 'Bluebird" "Helen Wheels" are excellent and diverse.
Bluebird has got to be the most under rated ELO song of all. love that one.
Mamunia too.
I just found out the other day that I really really ENJOY Paul McCartney. His music, and when he was arrested for marijuana possession he tried hard to educate people about the medicinal components of the plant... he's so private and chill...
I don't use the stuff but totally respect that.
It's bizarre that marijuana is illegal in many places but alcohol and tobacco, both of which are arguably more harmful, are readily available.
@@wizardsuth it actually still destroys brain cells and stunts growing brains
Not facts at all. Short term memory accrue very mildly. It goes always when you take a break. Educate yourself before your wreck yourself.
He's also been a vegetarian since the early 70's, and for an Englishman, was pretty damn far ahead on that front and talking about the issues with industrial farming. Never a lecturer though either. Does his thing. Great to see he's still looking strong and playing and singing well near 80.
Brilliant early wings. Paul needed a hit after leaving the Beatles and this is superb.
By this time he had already had several hits by 1973...but as Paul McCartney, and not Wings [See Another Day, Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey in 1971. Wings was formed shortly after that. 1972 was a bad year for McCartney single and album wise...Wings Wildlife debut album was not very good. The Red Rose Speedway album in Spring 1973 is when Wings finally burst out of the Beatles Shadow. The big successful single releases in the USA at least, in 1973, was My Love, Live and Let Die [movie theme], and then Helen Wheels, which was included on the USA version of the album Band on the Run. In late 1973 they released Helen Wheels as a single, which did well peaking at #10 on the USA charts. However in early 1974 they released "Jet" which went to #1. Then later the single of the title song, Band on the Run went to #1 in June 1974 about 9 months after they had started recording the album.
Paul was disappointed how poorly record company treated it. "Its better than that' Late bloomer on charts though
I'm in my 50s. When I was a child, my babysitter used to play this song with all of us kids dancing to it around the floor rug. Great memories.
Interesting. I'm smack in the middle of 50's now, and my babysitter in the 70's turned me on to Beatles. She was a huge Beatles fan and she gave me a bunch of her records. They're in my top 3 bands, along with Queen and Pink Floyd. The other two were a personal discovery.
You gotta love the transitions throughout this song. FYI the whole album is amazing.
really good album
Wings "jet" is another great song by them :)
I have this on a 45...yes a 45 record
I have 2,600 "45" records . First one bought in London in 1960 just the odd 61 years ago :)
You guys should react to the whole Band on The Run album next, in order. This album is a masterpiece of classic 70s rock and shows off the musical genius of Paul McCartney.
This was my very first paid concert 🎶
It was my 13th birthday present and it was awesome! 1976 at the Omni in Atlanta 🎶
1976 Seattle in the KING DOME my first concert too.
This was a few years after the Beatles, maybe about five. It was based part on reality, part fantasy, but it made for a great song. I have nothing bad to say about Paul McCartney. He's a legend.
One of the best albums of the rock era. You dont pick songs, you play the whole thing.
Yep! And when one side is done you flip it and play on👍👍👍
Good stuff. Also check out Live and Let Die by same band. Love that song and the film of the same name!
Love watching ya'll. Lex is always so happy with everything; home-girl is just the pure version of joy. It's so good to see, need more of this in 2022.
Now let's get a deep dive into the Beatles!!!🤞
Genius song and album. Nineteen hundred and eighty five is my favorite composition on this album. Tremendous piano rocker. I think they recorded the songs in Lagos Nigeria and the tapes were stolen when they were held at knife point.
Yes mine too!
Definitely one of the best on that album. For me, I think it's Band on the Run and Nineteen hundred and eighty five. Great piano riff and ending to that song.
Out of all the bands & side projects that came from The Beatles break up, Wings was always my fave. So many great songs.
I love this song.Glad y’all liked it. Check out :” Let Me Roll it” by Paul McCartney and Wings.
Not the official video-that had live footage, home movies, media footage & animations. They certainly didn't have graphics like that back in 1973/1974.
Paul actually had an album before Wings that was just credited to him and Linda, Ram. Had a number one hit with the song "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey". Give it a listen.
Brad & Lex . This!
He had two albums before wings
My 30 year old nephew discovered Paul McCartney a few years back, and became addicted to his music. My nephew is a drummer in a metal band. My absolute favorite is Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey.
BTW, still hoping the Christmas Stream is going to be "Things You Might Get For Christmas". Aerosmith's "Toys In The Attic" would be a great way to start it off, followed by ZZ Top's "Pearl Necklace".
Good stuff!
Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey has been one of my favorites since I was a kid when it first came out. Paul McCartney is a musical genius!
@@VidiotSavante It was the first one he did since leaving the Beatles that I absolutely loved. Still my favorite.
Uncle Albert is my favorite as well!
Metal? Try Paul's, "Monkberry Moon Delight," or "Helter Skelter," from his Beatles days.
The total joy you two get out of reacting to great music is so infectious. Makes me feel good. Thank you and keep doing it!!
The background to this album is a story in itself. Half his band quit on the day they were headed to Africa to start recording this album. It was just Paul, his guitarist and his wife Linda who ended up going. So Paul had to play all the drums on the album. And they had recorded almost 3/4's of the album when they got robbed coming home one evening and the thieves stole all the master tapes they had recorded. So they had to rerecord everything they had already done. This album then was a tribute to Paul's genius and perseverance.
Wow suddenly I'm 8 years old swimming in my pool with family and friends and this comes on the radio. So much time has passed and so many fun memories back then. We were definitely blessed to have experienced those days 🤔
Ooooh yeah, you just took me back 40+ years
I LOVE every song from this live stream. I'm so sad I missed it.
Paul McCartney was to tour Japan, but he had on him was the funny smoke. So the Japanese authorities arrested him and put him in jail for a day or 2, finally being let go after he promised to leave. This was on his breakout album, Band On The Run, which nearly every song was gold.
No; Paul was arrested in 1980. Band on the Run was released in late 1973.
And Ram from 71 is a awesome album...
McCartney came up with the idea of the album/film Give My Regards to BroadStreet while sitting in that Japanese jail cell.
Paul loved Lennon’s Happiness Is A Warm Gun which felt like 3 separate songs joined together he did the same thing with this.
Back when I worked for the railroad we would go to work at 6:00 A.M. in Colton. I was the engineer on a local, the LOP 92. The standing joke was the LOP stood for Low on Priority. Sometimes we would sit in the Colton yard waiting to depart for hours. There were some days we didn't depart! Well sometimes when we were frustrated we would play a couple of lines on from this song and mic it up on the radio for everyone to hear. "If I ever get out of here, if we ever get out of here!"
They sure did love and get along with each other. I read something somewhere a long while back that Paul and Linda were only apart from each other one day. If so that is truly amazing.
During this period and starting with the Beatles Abbey Road album, Paul had a habit of stitching song fragments together.
from the 1st time listening to this song, I've always enjoyed it. Rock on Brad & Lex
This was one of the first 3 albums I purchased as a teen in the early '70's - the other 2 were ZZ Top - Tres Hombres and "Can't buy a Thrill" by Steely Dan.
You had great taste back in the day... much better than mine!
Some outstanding musical taste right there!
Great albums! The 70s was such an awesome time for music! I also had these LPs growing up and I still have them on CD and MP3. I was fortunate that my dad was in several bands and I was exposed to a lot of great music in many different styles.
I have the first two on vinyl. ‘Tres Hombres’ is ZZ TOP at their absolute peak, for a year or two maybe the best band in the world.
Let Me Roll It, is on the same album. If you don’t react to it, at least listen to it at your leisure. Enjoy 🖖
This album and song was sunshine to me in the drab depressing 70's......Jet!
And Helen Wheels. And on and on... For my taste, Paule's best solo work.
The Greatest Band the World has ever seen and will ever see.
Thank You Liverpool and by the way I am from Manchester.
I love the looks on your faces as you listen to Paul’s music. Priceless. Paul was def smoke and chill. I always took Paul’s music as cheeky with a wink.
Paul McCartney & Wings are so good!
Some other great ones you should react to:
Listen To What The Man Said
Silly Love Songs
Jet
Let 'Em In
Live and Let Die

I believe you forgot to mention Uncle Albert/ Admiral Halsey 😉
@@75sliver I did! Thanks for adding it. I knew I was forgetting at least a couple more.
You guys need to start checking out the live video concert versions of these great songs !
Here's my parody of this song, entitled "Band With The Runs":
Stuck inside these four stalls
Hands upon the lever
Waiting for the big one
Call it number two
Number two, number two
If I ever get over this
Gonna alter my diet plan
Nevermore will my lunch consist
Of some prunes and a box of bran
If I ever get over this
If we ever get over this
Well the water parted with a mighty splash
As the drummer parked his buns
And the bassist swore through the closed and locked door
I'm next when you are done
Band with the runs
Band with the runs
And our manager, searched all over
The auditorium
For the band with the runs, band with the runs
Well the keyboard player felt his molars float
As he waited for his turn
And our backup singer hit a sour note
From the jalepeno burn
Band with the runs
Band with the runs
And the groupies' lust, and magic dust
Would both remain undone
By the band with the runs, band with the runs
Band with the runs, band with the runs
Well, the sun was rising as our weary fans
Began to think us dead
But a paper shortage did abort our plans
We're stranded in the head
Band with the runs
Band with the runs
And a hazmat crew, could not undo
The damage that was done
By the band with the runs, band with the runs
Band with the runs, band with the runs
Everything these men did turned to gold Beatles and solo!❤
PLEASE dive into this entire album. It’s a banger as is their album “Wings Over America”.
I love songs that take you on a journey and this one definitely does.
One story is that this started as about pot arrests in the time. In any event, another great McCartney song-of-parts in the same era is the Bond theme Live and Let Die.
Paul got the idea for the song title from something that George Harrison said during a Beatles meeting.
This could be his best solo album. Many great songs. Also you should check out Uncle Albert from the Ram album. He had a run of 4 or 5 great solo albums after the Beatles.
it is not a solo album
You both seem to enjoy heavy rock so you might want to check one the earliest heavy songs Helter Skelter released by the Beatles in 1968 before Black Sabbath/LedZeppelin it was also written by Paul Mccartney
McCartney's music was so brilliant, the different layers, key changes, the intriguing lyrics, amazing instrumentals and the way he intertwined it all, he was a musical genius and is hands down the greatest songwriter of all time and I doubt he will ever be equalled.
There is that little rock and roll Gremlin inside of Lex that I'd keep telling everyone about.!
Think of this one as a work of art. It was Wings at it's best imo. Love Paul's creativity.
Wings at its best because much of Wings had quit before recording started in Nigeria. It was basically all Paul on this record, from drums and percussion; piano and keyboards; acoustic and electric guitars; and, of course, bass. Denny Laine was the only Wings mainstay on Band on the Run.
One of my fave McCartney songs! ♥
UGH I love how Lex figures things out. Intuitively feeling all the different energies and histories intact in the song. Always impressed!
Good Reaction and ONCE AGAIN we see the benefit of watching the accompanying video :)
I was WRONG.
I have just seen the Official Video on 2 other reactions showing THe Guys on Tour with family scenes and you would have loved it Guys.
Venus and Mars is an excellent album; Sir Paul even mentions my man Jimmy Page. ☮️💕🎸
I know many may argue with me, but Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five is the jam off of this particular album.
That song is amazing. I totally agree.
This is one of my all time favorites! Love Pauls solo albums with Wings! Keep On Rockin'
Hi Brad and Lex!
"Every little thing she does is magic..."
Just wanted to say Hi!
While you have the record out, listen to Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five.
I love you guys! Brad seems like the straight forward concrete interpreter versus Lex’s more elastic open minded perceptions. Nice contrast guys! Look for new stuff from you everyday!
you're a fool john if you believe these people never heard this before, they play it on the damn radio all the time
"Well the undertaker drew a heavy sigh, seeing no one else had come" (to the funeral). For some reason that line hits me right in the feels.
Lex and Brad, the quality of your reviews is so high. A mix of analytical breakdown, music fanship, and observation of the human condition. And you pick rock related tracks/bands that are quirky, challenging, legendary. You guys are the best. Thanks
Can't wait until you try his " Live and Let Die" or "Jet" or "Maybe I"m Amazed"
3 great ones!
Great song! The Foo Fighters recorded a great studio version of this. Stayed true to the original while kicking it up a bit. Definitely worth checking out!
Why bother, listen to the original by Paul McCartney. A cover of the master is like painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa.
Yeah I actually prefer that version to the original as I love the more rockier sound plus daves voice is incredible
Came out in the summer. One of those songs that hit u when your very young. Becomes apart of u.
Brings back memories of being a kid in the 70s
Please, now take the ultimate dive into the ultimate band catalog- The Beatles rabbit hole is bottomless. You can start with the early Beatlemania years, the Psychedelic years (Sgt. Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour), or the final years where their music evolved greatly. So much to choose from.
Paul can rock like nobody else.
Oh, the nostalgia. Sunday afternoon in the park with an AM radio.
Been listening to this song since it came out and still not tired of it.
I always thought the 4 walls were the Beatles and he didn’t want to be stuck / forever seen as a Beatle. He wanted to break free of - his new band (Wings) tried to avoid many of the same actions the Beatles took - that was always my take on the song
Yeah, I did similar, although I saw the walls as being formed by that desire for more freedom, but also the music business itself, critics/judges, and fans needing the Beatles to always out-do themselves each album. As it is, it's amazing they kept getting better for that many albums.
@@s.mcpherson6354 Yep. As I always saw it, the four-walled jail cell was the critics/public/media refusing to see Paul as anything but a Beatle. Paul is saying "I'm in a different band, folks. We're Wings". The "band on the run" is trying to break out of the shadow of the Beatles.
He was arested in japan for posetion of marijuana . . 4 walls of a jail cell . . .jailer man and sailor sam sertching everyone refers to being serched . . He was fined and part of the release conditions was that he gave alot of his money to charities . . .
Paul was desperate to keep the Beatles going, so it can't be that.
@@rogerreed905 That was in 1980. This song came in '74.
“Congrats to everyone who is early and who found this comment”
What do I win?
still boring
That acoustic guitar tone in the middle bit gives life. True story.
Such a great song! The arrival of that 12 string guitar still gives me goosebumps.
I saw this live and it was absolutely the best show EVER.
Lex you are so great! We can see so much in your listening to Brad.
I have never been a big Paul McCartney or Beatles fan (a decade before my time) but I have always loved this song. It is almost like 3 complete songs in one.
The Master of Musical transition----Paul, " The Man," McCartney.
When Paul was a member of The Beatles and they had all those great hits they truly were a Band on the Run from their female fans.
Another great reaction. I so remember this song was all over radio. I remember being in the back of the family station wagon. I always had to sit on the hump (middle child). I love this song. The song is very beetleest, kind of a sgt pepper kind away. I remember just digging this song! Great Reaction & great 💡 idea!
You should have watched the video, because it was really interesting seeing Paul's journeys with Wings over the years on tour - showing you just how spectacular a superstars life is, and just how busy they are!
AWESOME !!! LOVE PAUL the Musical Master !!!!
When I was about 7 years old my pops bought me an AM transistor radio and this was one of the songs I listened to regularly... hearing it always takes me back there and I miss my dear old dad! Grateful!
Lex is right this song drew on a lot of experiences over time. Paul was asked about the lyrics and said he thought a lot bands that toured were 'on the run' he was touring at the time with Wings and asked if was touring to escape the pubic attention surrounding the Beatles break up and replied 'yeah, sort of'. The feeling of imprisonment came from a very stressful meeting the Beatles had with their Apple record label executives in which George commented, ' we will never get out of this house !! ' he used this as lyrics years later......
These two react to the best classic rock songs than anyone on UA-cam in my opinion.
I got to see Paul McCartney in concert back in 2016.
So thankful that I did.
He put on an amazing show.
An awesome mix of The Beatles & Wings greatest hits.
He is a world treasure👍🏼😎
One of my fav songs ever. From my childhood in the 70s. Brings back many memories
Love your videos! I especially like that you guys don’t stop the music every 20 seconds like some reviewers.
Whoa!! The remaster on this is amazing!
It is all about enjoying the great music and letting go!
Damn Brad and Lex! I knew you had a deep collection of classics, but didnt expect y’all to react to this. Y’all have a great selection of reactions!
When I was a kid, I thought he was saying, "Man on the Run" lol Always loved Paul McCartney & Wings and not many reactors have reacted to them (not sure why), so thank you!
love that first transition!! thought it would rock out harder after that, but..the song remains quirky and light!😊
This is among my favorite childhood songs. Laying on my towel at the side of the pool listening to this play on the speakers of the apartments clubhouse, pool full of kids and adults on the weekend. Volleyball net up and people playing and having a great time. The sweetest of memories of my first love.
This was one of my favorite songs that would come on the radio back in the day...I just loved that one riff they repeated a few times in the last quarter or so of the song.
