    Hey, nice comparison! One small thing though, transistor sizes aren't determined by the "nm number", it's purely a marketing thing. Apple probably does have smaller transistors than the windows laptop but it's not actually 3nm vs 10nm.

      Yeah, so many YT creators keep making that mistake. One has to wonder if they make it intentionally to get clicks and to incite comments or if they are just so ignorant about manufacturing processes. I do not really know which is worse honestly. Anyhow, they should all just look at de8bauer video where he cuts into the CPU dies and looks at them with an electron microscopes to understand what is happening and why they CANNOT compare nm nominations between the different manufacturers.

    I think a 4090 should have been a more apples to apples comparison as M3 max is Apple's best, whereas a 4090 is almost 2x faster than the 4070 and that will make a huge difference especially in things like GPU effects score etc.

    • @Cowicide
      @Cowicide 5 місяців тому +9

      Yep, I was scratching my head with the comparison with the 4070. With the 4090, the prices of the two would come closer but the Windows machine would likely dust the M3 Max in raw, plugged-in performance. That would be the proper comparison IMO.

      The thing is, as far as I know there is no 'creator' laptop with the 4090. Yeah, we could get a gaming laptop, but we'd loose some extremely important features that creators need, want. Fairly useless review in my opinion. These laptops aren't even in the same league. Test the ProArt against a 16" MacBook Pro that is similarly priced, give or take a couple of $200. That's a fairer comparison. This review is like testing the level of luxury in an Aston Martin to a Mazda.

      Or actually test against Windows best, since a 4070 laptop is nowhere near a 4090 laptop (and there are creator laptops with 4090s).

    • @johnpereira6934
      @johnpereira6934 5 місяців тому +2

      Test the ProArt with a MacBook Pro with a Pro version of the chip. Another thing. You can configure a Widows laptop so that you don't need a TB4 dock, such as a CalDigit. These TB4 accessories are expensive and add to the total cost. And then there is the cost of software upgrades to work with current Apple systems and under Parallels with legacy Windows software. Apples are simply too expensive when factoring in total cost of the device and all necessary accessories and software updates to current ones from legacy software that still might meet one's needs.

    I've used both and currently have a maxed out M3 Max.
    I do like the OLED displays and the haptic trackpad on the Asus as they've finally cloned Apple's design! No longer a springboard.
    The Creator I upgraded to 64GB DDR5 5600 but it only runs at 4800. 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD. Pretty much maxed out. It's pretty stout for a Windows machine.
    However, being like all Windows laptops, performance drops off the cliff when the power cord is unplugged. The creator laptop fan runs all the time and particularly in performance mode, quite annoying and man does it get hot!
    It will charge off thunderbolt docks but if you're using a lot of CPU and GPU the battery will still drain even when plugged in.
    Also (this is more a Windows issue rather than specific to the Asus machine), HDR is handled poorly. You have to enable it all the time or have it off. Apple does it right and HDR content is displayed in a window or full screen on demand.
    I am looking forward to having an OLED display on a future generation of Macbook Pro!

I honestly wish I could combine the two laptops. In my opinion, the OLED screen looks nicer and the ProArt in ways is a sexier laptop with a nice variety of ports, but the M2 Max performs so much better with better battery life. I can easily notice a performance difference when editing photos on the two devices. The M2 Max just runs so much smoother, and you can definitely feel the ProArt chugging along compared to the Macbook (It's still a fast machine in terms of Windows based computers). The Macbook speakers also blow the ProArt's out of the water. I also find Mac OS runs smoother than Windows as well.

    4:20 Something important to be clear at this point. Any process node is not comparable with any other, is just a name made for marketing. Intel 10 nm is not comparable with TSMC 3 nm, so it’s not true that you can fit three times transistors into the same space.
    Example: Its density it’s what matters, for example Intel 10 nm is denser than TSCM 7 nm by a little, which is counterintuitive to what people believe. Be careful with the marketing made by some companies. That’s why intel eventually changed their naming scheme to intel 7 process node, to make it seem more accurate to their competition.

    Windows due to it's HAL structure and backward compatibility will always means it's not as lean when using the same configuration, and x86 will be less energy efficient due to CISC being more robust. The trade off is that Windows have cheap devices running on Pentium and Athlon, and can run many ancient DOS Apps, it also have touch screen laptops and convertibles, you will have to get Ipad Pro to get Touch Screen on Apple. Windows is just more diverse.

    Interesting. Your results counter mine directly. Granted I'm testing an M3 Pro rather than Max, but on my Premiere tests my ProArt is about 40% faster than my Mac. I have a standard video that I use for testing Premiere and Resolve... it's a 35 minute video in 4K, footage is a mix of ProRes and XAVC... it has zooming and scaling and lower thirds from After Effects and a LUT across the whole timeline. On my M3 Pro in Premiere it takes 42 minutes to export, and on my ProArt it's done in 23 minutes. Other test projects are yielding similar results. I haven't tested Resolve yet -- working on that soon.
    Initially my ProArt was slower, but I discovered that when the screen goes to sleep the CPU goes into a low power mode and only runs at about 15% of its normal speed. So I had to turn off the screen power saving. But once I did that the ProArt was clearly faster than the M3 Pro in every test I threw at it.

      Are you talking about the my Asus application? And yes I agree with what you're saying He's the main reason why I decided to get this laptop and then he got stuff wrong in this video that just doesn't make sense, for example it didn't remember it's not a gigabit port it's a 2.5 gigabit port

      still no chance against m3max. M3max is 14900K(F) lvl, so even the 7945hx is a good margin behind. Stop the cinebench BS, you need mathematical concepts to test the cpu. Not marketing BS

    I'm a design student, and I'm looking to buy a computer for motion graphics and 3D graphics work. Since I have to work between school, cafe, and home, I have to consider weight, heat, and noise. So MacBook seems like a great option for me. Because it's quiet in most situations, and it does perform well without plugging in a brick-like charger. But considering 3D work, Windows laptops with rtx 40 series graphics cards are quite attractive. I don't have a big budget. What should I do?

      You just need to weigh how important each feature is to you. If you're doing any kind of 3D graphics work or AI, then unfortunately you kind of have to stick with a nvidia graphics card.

    One extra thing: If you are using linux to code, a lot of packages don't work well for specialized areas in MacOS ARM. In a windows laptop, you can install linux. Thats why I abandoned a MAC to a Windows laptop + linux.

    I do not like the ProArt laptop because of the battery performance, the benchmark performance on the battery and the design. It's a subjective matter, but I prefer the M2/M3 design. I mean, if you buy a laptop, the purpose is portability. Of course, if you are a designer working on an office desk all day, you want to bring your computer home after work to continue working on some projects or even for personal usage (why not), you will always have an electric plug nearby. However, if your laptop is provided by your company, they will likely choose a Lenovo or another PC laptop if they care about their inventory cost. This is where PC laptops have an advantage over Macs : the pricetag. If you can pick your own laptop for work, it probably means that you are self-employed or a professional who doesn't need to use an encrypted company VPN to work. In this case, you can get a tax credit if you add your laptop as a work expense and the pricetag will likely be less of a problem. This is what my uncle does : he is a professional photographer with a website and he's incorporated but self-employed. His MacBook Pro went on his corporate credit card and adds it as a corporate expense. So if you're willing to buy a laptop for professional reasons, cost should not be a big deal for a laptop unless you are buying a huge inventory of laptops and you need to watch the expenses for your equipment inventory. Also it depends what you do because PC has a better software compatibility. That being said, if you want to work from a coffee shop, during your travels or even in the comfort of your balcony in your forest cottage, the battery performance is essential. Apple brings you way more portability and a true laptop experience.
